Love the sense of humor. That rapid flash of the Bach image, gave me a chuckle.

I just asked my teacher what a Minuet was, I think none of us really cared to know untill then, and the way you explained it was super clear, I'll look smart in class now haha.

The term ‘Menuetto’ seems to refer to ‘small steps’ (often with ballet-like pointed toes) but went through several changes over time - by Mozart’s time, the Menuetto had pick’d up a little speed over Lolli’s time -almost always join’d to a ‘Trio’ [originally performed by 3 players] which consisted of a contrasting period of 8-bar phrases often in a minor key (if the Menuetto proper was in a minor key, trios were often in a contrasting major key)… The actual dance steps varied over time and place (1675-1700; 1700-1730; 1730-1760; 1760-1790; 1790-1810) with extra features being added all the time-Menuetti in London say in the 1770s were very different from the stately Menuetti danc’d at the Court of Louis XIV in Paris in the 1690s -and the menuetti danc’d by Mozart in Vienna in the 1780s would have been very different from the kinds of menuetti danc’d say in Venice in 1739-they were almost unrecognisable in fact - but had a lot of features in common - including a Z shape floor design of movement of the dancing pairs - it would make an interesting study to outline exactly what dance steps were drawn out on paper for the Menuetto in Paris or London or St Petersburg or Berlin or Vienna or Rome between 1700 and 1800 where there were many famous dancing masters such as Nouverre who took the trouble to publish some very detail’d floor markings … Incidentally, who ripp’d out the FIRST Menuetto in Eine Kleine Nachtmusik K. 525 of August 1787? The only one that survives is the 2nd one in G-major…and this party music originally had 5 movements with TWO minuets - things that make you go ‘hmmmm’ !! LoL

Great video. Very informative. I love Chopin, Mozart, Bach and Beethoven. Modern pianists such as Lang Lang I also enjoy listening too. Watching from London.

Hi exceptionally good piano performer! Would you enlighten me and explain me how a minor piano key could add darkness to a melody? What is considered darkness in a melody? Is there literature about adding darkness to a melody? Is there a school of philosophy involved? Thanks so much for being there.
