i feel like op 15 prelude is also stormy in a way, but more like a regular storm that you'd experience day to day when it's raining rather than a really intense storm like no 14 which seems to fit the subtitle given by bulow "stormy sea" which personally makes me think of old ships having to travel through very intense rains.

The prelude no.14 reminds me of the Finale of Chopin's Sonata no.2: both voices together, dark and fast and they were both criticised by Schumann.

Here's a tip for y'all In reference to Alyssia's comment about fingers crossing at 13:00, the music doesn't require you play it with a certain hand. When the notes cross over only a step or two, play it the logical way, not the way it's written (the higher note in your right hand)

Good thing I did not watch this video before attempting no 16. I would have been pretty discouraged. Tried learning 16 after watching yundi li's recording. It sounded really incredible and also short, which made me feel motivated to learn. Oh boy i was in for a shock. It was PAIIINFULLL. The right hand is bad enough (having to work out the crazy fingering possibilities). Then the left hand introduces large jumps that my already overwhelmed brain couldn't cope with. I can play it passably now, but only barely.

Great work my friend. As a professional pianist I don't go near the Bb minor ....It scares me. The d minor fascinates me because he wrote an etude in a set of preludes. He was a perfect musician. And the c minor always always make me cry ... I think it was his farewell... he knew he had TB and would die... yes he kept going for some glorious years. I can't imagine what that would have been like.

An interesting bit about the C minor prelude. Barry Manilow used it as the opening for his song "Could it be Magic." One of my favourite Chopin preludes, though I've only learnt like two at the moment, this one and the A major prelude.

No.19 is not only much higher in difficulty than a grade 7, it's the most challenging of all 24 if you're playing like it's written. Vivace is between 160-184. It's like op.10 no.1 with two hands.

I think that prelude no 16 is much more difficult than prelude 24. Prelude no 24 has jumps in the left hand however the right only plays scales and arpeggios.The hardest part of the prelude is the thirds.

Great video series. Looking forward to more videos. Great content. Your brief history videos on the lives of the composers are amazing. Where did you source all that information from? The level of detail is amazing. Small suggestion...the pronunciations of Rachmaninoff, Schumann, Bülow, Cantabile, Vivace, etc...are a bit off. Looking forward to watching all the rest of your videos!

I don’t see why no. 24 is rated a Henle 9 while 16 and 19 are not. They are extremely difficult throughout while the no. 24 is mostly playable besides I guess the thirds run in the right hand. The other runs though are fast, sure, but there are more difficult runs in a lot of the nocturnes.

It's not so difficult from a note perspective, but there are a lot of layers to interpretation. This piece is so easy to butcher because of that, which is why I think it's a higher level.

ManticTac I can’t believe someone would think it’s horrid! It’s exquisite. One of my favorites. Link to my channel and watch my 11 year-old play it. I talked him into trying to learn it. He did so reluctantly, but I think he enjoyed the experience. Now he’s trying to learn the last of these preludes, which he’s crazy about. I’ll post it if he’s manages.

There are 30 keys! C major, G major, D major, A major, E major, B major, F#major, C# major, F major, B flat major, E flat major, A flat major, D flat major, G flat major and C flat major. And the relative minors. Its 15+15=30! Not 24!
@MaestroMcQ
@MaestroMcQ 7 жыл бұрын
but 6 of those are simply enharmonic keys. So like b minor and c flat minor will sound the exact same way but are simply written differently. When we say there are 24 keys, we mean there are 24 "sounded" keys.
