Oh, Mulan wasn’t woke? Mulan wasn’t a girl boss? Mulan didn’t criticize patriarchy? Really? The story wherein a young woman defies societal expectations to get married in order to join the army and face almost certain death to save her father isn’t feminist? The movie where that same woman, through hard work and tenacity become a competent soldier and the most impressive member of her unit and outsmarts her comrades and finds a way to kill almost an entire army of lethal cavalry supposedly supports traditional gender roles? That movie where the heroine faces and defeats a hyper masculine imperialist villain who’s expectations of women are so low that he lets enemy soldiers in because they’re in drag and doesn’t even recognize the person who destroyed his army because she’s in girl-mode isn’t a story about dismantling patriarchy? @@missanthropy6174 The Alien movies too. Monster goes through trained military men like cheese and stopped by a strong woman. Pretty sure if that was released today people would be all over calling it woke
@missanthropy61747 күн бұрын
@ alien is even more woke than that. It’s an argument for female bodily autonomy. The alien, (which has a phallic shaped head) attacks people and impregnates them against their will and with no other choice, they die bringing forth the offspring. Everything that happens to a victim of the xenomorph, including the organs rupturing and dying during the birth process, is something that can and does happen to women in childbirth. And it all starts with an assault after which the victim’s autonomy and life are forfeit in order for the xenomorph to have babies. When it happens to real, it’s “tragic that she died or nearly died or was traumatized irrevocably but in the end a BABY was born and isn’t that a miracle?” When what happens to millions of real women happens to the fictional entirely male crew of a spaceship, it’s terrifying body horror and the monster responsible for such carnage must be defeated at all costs (I know, in future movies women get face-hugged too, I’m just talking about the original Alien). I also think it was another intentional choice to have Ripley immediately voice that they should leave the eggs alone and it’s the men who need to keep poking around and investigating. Had they followed the advice of the only woman on the crew and just left them alone, they wouldn’t have been face-hugged. One might even conclude that the men consented to the impregnation. They were poking around, showing interest in the aliens, they wouldn’t leave them alone, gosh it’s almost as if they were asking for it! If they didn’t want to have an alien baby, they should have kept their mouths closed, you know? And sure, the face-hugger attack was traumatic and the pregnancy was painful and scary and it destroyed the men’s bodies, but in the end, they had baby aliens and isn’t that a miracle? Ironically enough, I was at a get together at my boyfriend’s sister’s house, and I was talking about movies with her husband when he said he thought the Barbie movie was good but would be better if it was less political and then listed off a bunch of older movies including alien that he thought were better in part because they didn’t have obvious political messaging. I was like, dude, just because they never said the word “patriarchy” doesn’t mean that Alien wasn’t hella political. But I couldn’t elaborate more because it was a family get together and I got a look from my boyfriend that said “I beg of you, don’t talk about violent assault, brutal childbirth, aliens bursting out of people’s chest, and ab*rtion at the dinner table in front of my mom.” I swear though, alien is NOT subtle but it completely flies over so many people’s heads. And this guy I was talking to isn’t even a conservative, he’s just a normie that apparently prefers to turn his critical mind off when watching movies and you can do that as long as the characters in the alien-forced-pregnancy movie never actually say the word “ab*rtion” or “bodily autonomy” or “grape.”

If anything, the film's so anti-gender roles that it kind-of just turns into a trans story about how gender is meaningless and anyone can be anything socially. Xian = anti-everything human, vedic/gnostic = knowledge and equality. I personally feel philosophy like hyper-sanity could be a potent bridge for helping redpillers escape, as philosophy is basically a bridge between religion and atheism. My entire world was shattered to pieces when i learned that Harold Hammer-man wouldn't be the focus of his own story, but instead would be based on a Tolkien footnote about about his daughter. She was barely mentioned. She was the equivalent of a Boba Fett from episode 2 (i dont acknowledge the prequels) - he may have sounded cool but nothing ended up happening with him. For good reason, he didnt have a hand in shaping the galaxy. Infuriating.

What's she got against characters being arrogant? It's so weird. People like characters with ego, seeing people be confident and full of themselves is fun to watch. I mean, just look at how many people love Iron Man more than Captain America or The Hulk, right? I've never heard of anyone bash Thor for being arrogant, they just think it's a fun part of his character and they move on like normal people. Why should women always be passive and subservient to others? Heck, if anything, she's a girl. It's pretty arrogant of you to tell male directors what to do with their own films they worked for, right? Seems kind-of hypocritical, doesn't it? If she's saying we need to only care about gentle non-arrogant women then why should we care about the arrogant stuff she's saying? I dunno, really seems to me like everyone loves Bayonetta and Ryuko from Kill la Kill, but nobody really cares about the generic love interest of the week in most movies you see. It's almost like being confident for yourself instead of pursuing a man is a pretty valid thing for a woman to be, isn't it?

Eh I get enough of arrogant people in real life, I'd rather not have them be everywhere. But I can just ignore things I don't like which is apparently a superpower to some people.
@ExtremeMadnessX10 күн бұрын
Especially when arrogance and other flaws are part of the characters' arc and development. Apparently, only male characters are allowed to have that. Female characters must be perfect from the beginning so people can then complain about them being Mary Sues or something.
@dracocrusher9 күн бұрын
@@ExtremeMadnessX Oh they're going to do that anyways, lol! It's really funny when you notice every Mary Sue complaint is just people bitching about power scaling with the bottom end just being "This woman is a Mary Sue because she beats one guy in a fight." That's all it is now. Just "If a woman can fight, she's a Mary Sue."

@@HoutontThat's dependent on the context of the story. Arrogant characters are mostly villains or main characters that will have huge development during the story.

to tell this story AT ALL they would have had to essentially invent a character, because none of the major players are there for the entire story. hera's family all dies and frealaf is away until the very end. changes would have HAD to be made from the scant source material regardless, either inventing a character wholecloth or changing things so that frealaf isn't away / one of hera's family members survives. so building a character from the pre-existing foundation of helm's unnamed daughter simply makes sense. the alternative would be completely inventing a character out of nothing, so if people complaining about war of the rohirrim think that should have happened they're not actually upset about changes to the source material and JUST upset that the protagonist is a woman. and pardon me for gatekeeping but people upset about wotr are also fake fans if they think this lessens eowyn to make another shieldmaiden of rohan - in my opinion the book made it pretty clear that while eowyn is somewhat unique *in her time*, she is certainly not unique in *the entire history of rohan*. there were other female warriors that came before her, so this doesn't break canon or something at all. in fact having the framing device of eowyn telling the story makes a lot of sense, of course she would be inspired by tales of rohirrim warrior women of the past, and would take more care to learn and remember and pass on those stories than her countrymen. AND hera's story largely being forgotten by the people of rohan makes plenty of sense. if essentially all of humanity can pretty much forget the fucking one ring or else take it as fiction, of course this one lady from a dead royal line who was really only relevant for this one event in the history of this one nation that (iirc) doesn't really keep written records and is more oral-history-focused is lost to history. anyway not to be pretentious about tolkien but i will forever gatekeep people like the lady in the video. and i'm upset that the movie lowkey flopped because (1) i thought it was pretty good. the last 5-10 minutes got a little to fanservicey but other than that pretty strong and (2) animation is probably the only way we're ever going to see a lot of smaller stories from the appendices / the wider legendarium adapted, because they aren't well known enough or large enough scale to warrant a full fledged live action movie / tv adaptation. and there are a lot of those stories from the history of middle earth that i really want to see adapted! which (probably) won't happen since war of the rohirrim underperformed. idk maybe next time new line cinema needs to renew the film rights we'll get another one. edit after i got to the part where she's talking about female characters that she likes: oh... she's stupid

I actually like this movie, and fill the void, why the Haradrim join Sauron, in the end was a blood feud, Tolkien fans where pissed by this movie, not only for Hera, but because they portrayed the Rohan not as noble as in the movies, after all, Helm killed one of his vassals in cold blood, for daring to ask the hand of his daughter in marriage, and in the beginning is show how entitle and arrogant they were, till their whole village was destroyed and countless lives where lost, he could simply denied the request, but he acted like Aerys II when Tywin asked to Cersei marry Rhaegar.

@@vksasdgaming9472 I known, but the Haradrim were ally of the Dunlanders during the siege, it must have been a very humiliating defeat after a long siege, something that they would never would forget, being a poor politician it not a excuse to murder one if your own vassals in front of everyone, causing that your own vassals turn against you.
@vksasdgaming94728 күн бұрын
@@TheKeyser94 Haradrim being allies of Dunlanders really does not make sense as Gondor is right between Rohan and Haradwaith. Getting assisting army through Gondor is not feasible. What little is written of Helm is that he was fast to act and slow to consider. Freca was lacking diplomatic skill as well, but Wulf obviously chose blood instead of wergild. Then again Helm had declared Freca's kin outlaws already so there was no chance of peaceful end to such feud. In the end nobody won though Wulf did claim his revenge.
