Today we had a really cool guitar come through the door, a one-owner 1959 Gibson Les Paul Custom with three PAFs! A really awesome sounding Les Paul with great sound, the classic black finish, and great playability has gotten us really excited, so Jay wanted to bring this one right to the front of the line and show it to you all within a few hours of acquiring it!
We plugged this beauty into a fantastic 1950s Gibson GA-55V 2x12 18w combo, which turned out to be a great pairing!
For more information about the guitar, please keep an eye on our website. For the amplifier, please check out:

It's the lacquer that yellows, not the binding. That's why the other plastics aren't yellowed, because they aren't lacquered.

@@streetfighterracing1583 lol it’s literally the laquer that has aged/yellowed, it’s not yellow on the fretboard binding because they scrape it and just natural wear causes any finish to wear back down to the white plastic binding.

Great guitar. I have a 1958 LP Custom. Saving it for my daughter on her 18th birthday. She is 7 now, so still a few years for me to enjoy it. Emerald Guitars rocks. Jay Boone is one of the nicest and knowledgeable guys you could meet.

Maybe he felt his time here is almost done but hopefully he felt it was time for it to be in the hands of someone who will make music with it. The clip says he didn't play much. I think of some of my axes I've had 25 years and with a good luthiers still play great, one day they will be owned by someone after I'm gone. Ahhh if only we could take them with us.

There are 6 and 9 position toggle switches that can be wired to 3 Humbuckers that give a vast selection of pickup choices. Not saying you would do that to a vintage guitar, but a choice to consider on a modern reissue - especially if you keep the original 3 position toggle in the case so it can be put back if you sell the guitar.

Weird. If you go to 1:11 you’ll see how the last inlays are equal in size - the last one even looking a little bigger than the 2nd last. Just like the 50s customs. But sometime in 60 that last inlay gets noticeably smaller. Same as 1968. The reissues in the 70s and later all have the last three getting smaller with the last one really thin.

Beautiful guitar and beautiful story to go with it. As other posters have pointed out, there is a bit of misinformation and a few issues...but nothing major. The binding has not yellowed; the top lacquer coat of the finish has, which is why the white borders on the unfinished plastic parts don't match. The pickup selector switch may have been replaced, as the resin formula used to make the tip should be a darker color....hard to tell on the video. The guitar has had an obvious fret job, replacing the "Fretless Wonder" frets with wider ones, and it appears the fret nibs on the neck binding have been removed during the refret. This was a very common modification with the original Les Paul Custom, SG Custom, and top line Firebird, which all had ebony fingerboards and tiny frets (however, ES 355's did not). You failed to mention the broken stoptail (bass side): original lightweight aluminum ones in gold with the correct bottom seam are bringing north of $1K, but there are a couple of decently accurate repros available. A vintage blues/rock machine for sure....congrats on acquiring it.

The way I see it, I dont think a store should make 5 figures just to flip a guitar. It's not like a house where they out $40 grand into new roof and flooring, windows and all that shit. I can see a grand for security and insurance but it shouldn't be up to one single guitar to pay the rent and bills for two years all by itself.
