I love the Ventures- and when I first played their Mosrite model I was stunned. The neck is so thin and easy to play. My dream for over fifty years is to own one of these!

Hi Jay, Yeah, man, that is the very model that my dad used with his group Los Tropicales (Lincoln, NE) when he and uncle Jorge were attending the U of Nebraska in the '60s. This guitar looms large from my earliest childhood memories with photos on the back of my dad's LP and a few old family photos from his gigs with him using one. He said he really loved that guitar. After all the band members graduated college and joined corporate life, he sold it along with what I believe was a Fender Princeton amp... sniffle... I am not sure that I have much of a use case for a Mosrite guitar, but that amp. Gah... In any event, you guys are doing a great job. I am so glad I can just stroll into your shop here in the Seattle area.

The necks on the 60s examples /are/ a bit narrow, and stock frets are *LOW.* The width is narrower than a Fender 1 5/8" at the nut. You might want to try before you buy. They did widen the necks and use taller fretwire by 1972 - 1973, though. That said, maybe also try a Hallmark Guitar? They're more user-friendly for those who can't get over the 60s Mosrite Necks & Frets. Oh, and Hallmarks have potted pickups. Originals aren't potted.

You know that Dana Mosely used to hand-wind all her dad's pick-up's on those Moserite's I forgot the years she told me but she did work in her dad's small shop when she was a teenager. I knew her when I lived in Bakersfield, California. Ya know, every once and a while you can find an original at "Front Porch Music" in Bakersfield. Yeah, after her dad passed away, there were copyright issues and a stream of knock off's were made, but think she told me a few years ago that the "copyright" issues were straightened out and they could make them again the old fashioned way with her hand winding the coils in the pickups again. That was about 10 years ago. She's moved out of state since then.

nice! I bought a late 60's metal flake blue in 75'.It was a beautiful guitar, the action was low & fast.i didn't have the right amp for playing small club gigs,i had a Twin Reverb,the only time i could make her squawk was with my buddy's Champ so i got a Tube Screamer. i wish i hadn't of sold it

Everyone only plays old 60s stuff in these Mosrite demos as if the guitar can't do anything else. Maybe it can't. It would be interesting to hear some other styles palyed to get a sense of how it compares to other modern guitars.

@lrvogt12573 жыл бұрын
@@mynamedonk3085 : Yeah, that sounds right. I had a pearl white one in 1967 and it was never a favorite. I liked the look of it but the neck was really skinny and the tone was just OK to me. Pre-punk so that didn't come up.

Johnny Ramone's got you covered in the early Ramones years, though the pickups in his 65 Ventures II "Slab" were the cheaper kind. Even so, he seems to have used one of the Ventures Mark I models (though it was probably a later one) for the first album's recording. These can also do overdrive very well, for a single coil; especially with a set of .13s on the guitar.
@JoeTelly Жыл бұрын
I've never heard the Deluxe Reverb '64 Custom with such an impressive sound, or is it the pickups that make it go into that glorious distortion early on. Anyway, there is no comparable demo where it sounds better than here, so it must also be the guitar - perfect duo it seems to me.

Mosrite Pups are unlike many other pups. They're sometimes mistaken for P90s, which they aren't. They're somewhere between Fender and Gibson.

Nothing sounds quite like a Mosrite. Those pickups are probably wound super hot somewhere between 10 & 13k, possibly higher, which is crazy for a single coil designed in the early 60's
@101Volts4 жыл бұрын
@@TheAnonymousBosch You're on target with your guess on the pickups. They're the most common kind of Mosrite Single Coils (they're *not* P90s, they're too short, by a bit over 3/8 of an inch) and they're wound with AWG 43 (EDIT: Maybe AWG 44) somewhere from 10k to 13k. Mosrite also made Humbuckers in the 70s which fit in the same casing size, and those can be up to 19k or 20k.
@101Volts4 жыл бұрын
Also, the Mosrite-Spec Bridge and Bridge Posts give part of the Mosrite Sound. The two of them sap some of the sustain away, but if you're using a set of 9s or 10s, the instrument has a bit of a "bouncy" sound to it while strumming. EDIT: That's true even with a set of .13s, as I have on my 66 now.

@101Volts3 жыл бұрын
You'd have to buy an import of a Japanese reissue on eBay, or buy a Hallmark 60 Custom or Hallmark 65 Custom. The Hallmarks are close, but different in a few ways. Most of that's the 24.75" scale length, slightly fatter neck size, and potted pickups that sound a bit darker. www.hallmarkguitars.com Or, you could buy a custom guitar from E. F. Elliott. He worked with Mosrite in the 70s, and he does a good job making guitars similar to the 60s Ventures Models.

モズライトは、ベンチャーズのイメージしかない、ベンチャーズしか弾いてはいけないという誤ったイメージが定着してしまってるせいの為、欲しいとは思えないな。 I don't think I want Mosrite because it has only the image of The Ventures and the false image that only The Ventures should be played has taken root. フェンダーアンプの裏パネルには、日本語の警告文も書いてあるんだな。 There is also a Japanese warning on the back panel of the fender amplifier.
Its a rosewood neck/fingerboard, sweet all the same.

@101Volts Жыл бұрын
One tip is to "tin" your strings. That is to take your unwound strings, gently put them in a vice so the ball ends are sticking out, then solder the wraps shut. Don't do a cold soldering job. This will make the strings stay more in tune, and they'll also last longer. I do it to all of my steel strings, if the guitar's a hard-tail or not - it's too good to ignore.

Clean sounds first please then distortion. The demo should demonstrate the sounds the guitar can produce not one tone the player likes. I worked on and off with Nokie Edwards for around six years and I’m sure that a lot of people who would be watching this demo would love to hear the sounds of the Ventures.

Hey Bill...thanks for the input. Yeah, I do know how to play clean, and if you listen to the whole demo I do ease up somewhat in a few sections.
