Wow.. Quite a Dynamic Duo. I'm too low rent to afford either of these magnificent instruments... So I appreciate this series. Cheers 🍻

Nice guitar. You have to keep Carl around. Every time he plays, it's a great example of both clean and dirty tones of the guitar. Plus anyone who plays Blue Jean Blues is cool in my book.

did you say SD CS PG wounded lower? I have a pair in a very nice LP and it doesn't sound like that, but THEY have those beautiful squeezy overtones!! love them!!

I agree, kind of confusing. Typical SD Pearly Gates DC Resistance is listed as Neck: 7.50k, Bridge: 8.21k. I'd consider 8.2K warm for a PAF style pickup, but not "Hot" or "Over-Wound". Not sure, maybe Gibson had SD custom wind 250 sets for that run.

Couple of aspects about the Matchless C30 : you need the 212 combo speakers and secondly , the amp's voiced for single coils . I've performed with them for decades .

Funny you should say that, I;ve always felt it reacts much better to single coils, as do a few of the other matchless amps. I know mi9ne does. Whether or not it is true.........I;ve never heard any other person say as much. Hums sound much better in the low input IMHO. Matchless is the only amp ive played that the low input doesnt just kill the tone of the guitar, I actually prefer it even with some single coil guitars.

@@bobpedone6168 Whenever Jamison plays or is seen with a guitar and a C30 , it's a Strat type . Many performers are Tele type players too . In general , I think EL84 power tubes are not a humbucker friendly tube .

This is the best I've heard an LP sound on one. It's still kind of congested sounding to me.

And who at Matchless told you that did you get the info from them or is this just your opinion???

Question, did these guitars ship from the factory with the same string gauge Mr. Gibbons uses? I'm gonna guess no as not many have a light enough touch to use .007"-.038" strings, just curious.

I bought one brand new back in 2009. It's setup with 10s wrapped around the tailpiece and the saddle adjusting screws facing the tailpiece. Someone changed it on the guitar in this vid :-(

I watched this video a couple of days ago and i didn't want to comment. But it stuck in my mind and i can't seem to shake it. I think it sounds terrible. Weither it's the amp (wich i think is the problem) or the guitar. More than 16 grand combined i believe? No way. And i'm not listening to this on my cellphone neither, it's coming through studio monitors. I'm really sorry but sounds like $#@%. And i'm not trolling or trying to an a$$hole 'cause usually your demo's are amazing and your gear sound amazing but this?

Yeah, can't say I really disagree. I've seen demos of pearly gates on stock standards and they sound incredible. The Amp is the problem. You can hear the guitar and player doing what that axe is famous for, but the Amp just isn't up to it. Could be cus it's designed for single coils, could be that they were trying to push 30 watts too hard. I can't imagine, at that price-point, that Matchless has this sound in mind when they brought it to market. Has to be an anomaly. Good company with a good reputation, and I've never personally heard a dud Amp out of them until this video. My 30 year old 10 watt Park practice Amp sounds better than that Matchless. As far as pearly gates demos are concerned, that Matchless Amp is truly matchless....just not the way, I'm sure, that they meant it to be.
