Already had a Varmint XL-250 and just picked up 3 Varmints off Facebook a few days ago. Picked up a XL-150 shown here and also an XL-450 and the King of the Varmints, the XL-1000.
Varmints are said to be very nasty, but with the superMod off, they are nothing more than basic grounded grid amps to me. They have a variable Trimmer only on the input for input SWR adjust and standard Pi circuits for the driver's and finals. On Supermod mode, it adds some -Bias to the driver tube which gives the amp more swing. However, with these amps the screen grid is grounded, so no Turbo charging and no super swinging, even with the Supermod. At least with the 150-450's, the Tubes are mounted on a PCB and they use the same PCB at that, just less populated for the smaller amps. The Tube lineup for Varmint Amps:
100 2 6kv6 Tubes
150 1 6kv6 x 1 6lr6
250 1 6kv6 x 2 6lr6
350 1 6kv6 x 2 6lr6
450 1 6kv6 x 3 6lr6
600 2 6kv6 x 4 6lr6
1000 3 6kv6 x 6 6lr6
The 150 shown in the vid with 1x1 does 60 dead key swinging to 100 RMS, 150 Peak on Supermod and on High it just bumps up the dead key from 60 to 90. I think this amp is solid, but I'm not a fan of the 1x1 configuration, and especially for drivers, I am a fan of modulator type amps and especially ones with a variable, while this one is neither of those.
