Hey Catman! i`m a chef and i want give u some tips for cooking Morels. first don`t season them with salt and pepper till after they are cooked they will get crispier! a good thing to know in cooking is when you add salt to something it will bring the moisture out. So if you crisp the shrooms first then season them, you will have a much better product. also shallots are fantastic with morels! and if you could find some Ramps/wild leeks cook them together its an awesome side dish for venison!! Hope this helps and if you need any cooking advise message me anytime!!!! love your channel and watch all of your videos keep them coming!!

Mr. Catman. Try looking on the river hills. We found a whole lot last year along the river. It was either the sycamore trees or the high water washing the spores everywhere.

Without a doubt.....the best morel video Iv'e seen yet. Good Job fella'. Several years ago I found hundreds of morels in early April, but not many as big as the ones you found in this video. I also had a spot that produced black morels every year for about 12 years, now they just stopped growing there- despite the fact that I always cut them about 1/3rd the way up from the ground. I always leave the mycelia (roots)intact on any edible mushroom. Hopefully I'll find some to post on my channel this year.

Thanks for the video. In the west we usually get them after a rain if the temperature warms to the 60s in the day. Forest fire burns are the best but ground disturbed by logging can be good. Also some areas just seem to produce some every year. They look a lot like Douglas Fir cones so you must look closely. If you see one spend some time in that spot because there will usually be more. Spring bear and turkey seasons will open soon so it's a nice time to be in the woods.

About to start scouting around in Wisconsin, last couple of years I feel like I am in competition with deer and turkey. I find more under dead fall and brush where the deer and turkey can’t get to the treasure...I don’t have proof, but where I find morels I find a lot of muzzle rubs where the leaves are pushed aside down to bare ground with deer tracks and turkeys scratching in the same areas...nice video, some great specimens in that batch. Thanks for sharing!

Correct, pulling them out disturbs the mycelium and promotes more growth
@Vmurph
@Vmurph 2 жыл бұрын
These two comments confused me. Justice Fall said that breaking the stem was the best way. John Foley said that was correct, but then said PULLING THEM OUT promotes more growth. Which is best? To me, breaking off and pulling out are two different things. Doesn’t “pulling out” imply removing from the base? Like when pulling weeds, we pull them out from the roots. The reason I’m asking is because Morels grow in our backyard, so we want to know the best way to harvest them that will promote more growth. Sorry for commenting on a year-old video. I just saw this and learned something new, so I had to ask.

We soak them in salt water and roll them in flour and fry in butter! They definitely like popular, ash,old abandoned apple orchards and I have found them under multiflore rose bushes. Also around sycamore trees! But if I had a favorite place to look it would be around ash and popular! Great video bud,I enjoy watching them all.

When I get started getting interested in mushrooms it was late autumn. So it happens that morels were the very first mushrooms I found. It occurred to be the first one I ever found (almost smashed one when walking and that was how I found it :D). Can't wait to go hunting them this year I think morels and chanterelle are the best mushrooms existing. Greetings from Poland!

I soak mine in salt water. I let them sit a bit, mainly to run the bugs out and wash the grit off (good ole rich black mountain dirt)- it leaves the shroom and sinks to the bottom. I dust mine lightly in flour and fry in butter or grease usually, although I love them bare as well. Thanks so much. My most favorite dish.

Once when I was a kid we came across something that is not normal when hunting. A few of us country boys all about 12 years old found a patch of morels that was at a minimum 12 foot by 18 foot. The big deal is this, you could barely see the ground at all. What is burned into my mind is how perfectly fresh they were and ranged from 6 inches down to 3 inches. I don't blame anyone for not believing

8:50 “there’s no rhyme or reason “ I disagree, science seems to as well… but still your point is right! Sometimes you find a spot that looks perfect but you get nothing other times you spot one in a spot you would NEVER look. They’re strictly attached tree roots but roots can go SOOOOO far and they don’t even need to live roots. They are mysterious little buggers
