Love these videos. I have heard that with old tube radios you don't want to turn them on unless they have been cleaned and just to remove the grimy dirt and such. How much of that is true? I once turned on old brass tank fan and it started smoking so thats why I ask. Can you part out the radio?

I have a similar tube radio in my basement, it's like 4ft tall and still works really well. I actually listen to it when I do some cleaning down there.
