Picking the right gear to help you survive! (Camping, Hiking, and Survival Basics)

I have grown up in the outdoors. I was a part of a Search and Rescue team for 13 years and I was a team leader in that organization for 10 years. I taught Search and Rescue and Outdoor Survival basics during that time. I am also an EMT.
This video barely scratches the surface of what there is to know about surviving in the great outdoors. It is the basics of picking gear to help you survive if your recreational adventure goes sideways.

Hi from Pennsylvania. I grew up in Pennsylvania in a logging family. I still work in the Pennsylvania forest. For the PA game commission. I am very familiar with remote areas. But you never know what will happen. Be prepared. I was trained on how to navigate with compass.by the army. . I always carry a kit when remote. And always armed. 😊

Funny story about keeping your pogey bait from the critters. I was camping around Twin Lakes near Buena Vista. I had my Eureka! tent pitched, everything was great, hanging out with my buddies. Later in the afternoon, I went back to my tent and was surprised to find a hole chewed through the side of it and a squirrel passed out on my sleeping bag. M&M's were strewn about the floor and half of my pot brownies were gone. I went back to my friends and told them what happened. Of course, they didn't believe me, so about 8 people went to my tent and peered in the door to confirm my story. One chick poked the squirrel, who immediately jumped up, did a few laps around the tent, then promptly passed out again. About a minute later, he regained consciousness and ran out the door into the woods. *** 5 years later *** I'm back at the same area, fishing the lake that was about 500' from the campsite where the squirrel ate my pot brownies (Forebay). My tackle box was behind me on the rocks about 10 feet away. It had pot brownies in it. I was making casts for a while, when I turned around to see a squirrel, standing upright near my tackle box, engaged in eating one of my pot brownies. I had my camera with me (I catch, take a picture and release) and I have a shot of him standing up while nibbling the brownie, then standing up and just staring down at the ground with a 1000 yard stare. My brownies can put down a grown-ass man, so I can only imagine the alternate realities those squirrels (or maybe the same squirrel) experienced.

Mrs. Rifleman and I just spent a solid 5 minutes laughing our tails off at that! You and your brownies are forever engrained in the legends of the squirrel kingdom. Generations of squirrels will chatter about the rogue wandered who possesses the all seeing chocolate square. 🤣🤣 Makes me think of the crazed Mississippi Squirrel that Ray Stevens sung about! 🤣🤣
