@thesevenpens Yeah, I just wish I watched this a fwäew days earlier. You see, I ordered a small wacom tablet for my brother who has a 27 inch screen, he's gotten an interest in 3d sculpting, so I thought I'd get this for his birthday. However it's ashame because now it seems I should have gotten the medium sized one

Stumbled across this and it answered my question perfectly! Great quality video, and very informative. That tip about matching the proportion sizes of your monitor and tablet was a godsend. Thank you for taking the time to make this and for putting in the effort to make a properly helpful guide.

I was looking for a simple relation between my pentablet and my monitor's resolution -- not a degree in illustration 😛 Great video and explanation, thank you!

Update, i bought a 5.66 inch pen tablet cause its cheap and perfect for my 15.6 inch laptop screen, It gives ~2.7 scaling factor. This is my first time buying a pen tablet, and its hard to find these type of videos. Now don't need to worry about trying every pen tablet with different sizes, thank you🙏

Currently I have a 24.1" monitor 16:10 paired with a Intuos pro Medium PTH660 but recently i bought a PTH860 for €110 (paper edition, sealed box!) and Im thinking about switching since it matches the aspect ratio of my monitor... But I dont know If should get a bigger monitor like a 32" 4K ( I have a single monitor setup with no physical space to add a second one.) My current monitor (Eizo CG2420) is really good spec-wise but I feel like his resolution might be a bit limited for 2023 (1920x1200)...
@thesevenpens2 жыл бұрын
You got an amazing deal on that PTH860! Especially as you get larger monitors I think more resolution helps. These days the minimum resolution I use is 2560x1440. It's a good balance of resolution vs compatibility vs cost.

since my monitor screen is 14 in (its a laptop), it should be fine if i get a small pen tablet right?
@thesevenpens7 ай бұрын
It should be fine in terms of matching pen movements to screen movement, but you should keep in mind what you are going to use it for. If you are drawing, you may find the smaller space a bit cramped. For example, my hand hurts when I use a small tablet. And also remember that if you get a medium pen tablet, you can se the active area smaller if needed. Maybe try tracing out the size of the active area of a medium and small on a piece of paper and just see how you react to moving the pen in that area.
@danielcalencar9 ай бұрын
So can I basically use my same monitor but configure the active screen area to another size?
@thesevenpens8 ай бұрын
Yes the active area is kind of arbitrary for a pen tablet, you can make it any size up to its default maximum. Though I do recommend to keep it proportional to the monitor so that the aspect ratios match and that will avoid any distortion while drawing.

Hello I have a 1920*1080 laptop resolution (15inch) Is it okay to buy a 2.5K display-2560*1600 Display Resolution drawing tablet? (Sorry about my english, Im not native)
@thesevenpensАй бұрын
Sorry for the late reply. Yes that should be fine - especially if you are not duplicating/mirroring your desktop across both your laptop and the tablet.

I have a 27in monitor. Would you recommend a 20 inch pen tablet?
@thesevenpens3 ай бұрын
@butoutofcontext that is a very large pen tablet for that size monitor. Personally I would find it too awkward with that combination of sizes

What I did once started to look my work was stop using stander 8x11 default for drawing canvas. The tablet's default of mapping screen drawing area is good but your work should be set to those display defaults for your work. Coming from a normal analog art background to doing digital was a big more but the first thing is that you have to think of your drawing area as bigger than normal and not set by the tablet's size. Your screen size is not the canvas never set your limits to that. Your drawing area should be seen as your canvas(That I see it) when on a bigger screen say a 40" TV as more computer monitors I have seen are limited to 32" as of now. When I got Intuos 4 extra large the biggest LCD was 18" to 20" my Laptop was 17.3 as it was meant for gaming but there were few that hit 18" and 20" but were out f my price range. This was around 212/13 Now there are better displays and if good at thrift shop hunting a good TV/ Monitor can be picked up cheap ($8 to $ $25) I picked up a Samsung 25" Monitor TV for $10.20 in great shape and that worked fine and had many types connection and 2 HDMI connections. I try to g by the idea is remapping your thinking as you draw and display what are drawing. Having large monitors is a great way to promote your art and promote your Wacom table.

For 32 inch 4k single monitor setup which pen tablet you prefer intuos pro medium or large (for illustration work)?
@thesevenpens2 жыл бұрын
Personally I prefer the Intuos Pro Large for a 32” 4K monitor. It just feels more natural to me than a medium.

The right monitor depends of how deep its your desk, if its only 60cm I wont recommend you going up from a 27ich monitor, had a 32 inch and at that distance its so close, and you hurt your neck by moving the head to look at each corner. Instead of the size of the tablet you should worry more about the distance from your eye to the monitor.

Im getting the cheapest one which is usually the smallest one

Shop around. On eBay, the Intuos 4 extra large is running like $250. And picked up an Intuos 5 Pth large pen/touch for $60 plus tax. They are selling around $75 to $120. The eBay seller I got my Intuos 5 has more they are just misding the usb cable, which is cheap to get.

I medium sized tablet should work great. As for specific pen tablets at that size see: docs.thesevenpens.com/drawtab/buying-a-drawing-tablet/recommendations/pen-tablets
