The 5×114 stock BBS ''years '05-'07" are somewhat easy to get. My '04 STi was the unique year that had 5×100 BBS those are unique and hard to come by. And NO, i'm keeping my Rare one off BBS's 😁

Heeeyyy, I also have decided to build an engine randomly but sadly not a Subaru engine. I got a free 1992 GMC Sonoma with a Chevy 350 small block swapped into it and I've decided to completely build that engine and restore the truck. It's been sitting for about 5 years and is rough but fixable and I'm super excited. And when that's done, I think my '16 STI will be due for a new engine

whenever a screw gets stripped out for me I just use a grinder or a dremmel and make the screw into a standard tip screwdriver. Works everytime and its usually really quick

💪💪💪 thats what I'm aiming for 650hp goal, but want to be around 500 to 575 with the capacity to hit those 650hp, tutbo will be the G30-770 or the G30-900, block still debating if sleeved or closed deck, e85 i got available near were i live, but don't know yet if going e85 or pump gas with methanol injection, we'll see.

Make sure you measure those main journals and crank before you put that back together. Especially when replacing bearings. Still, I use Plasti gauge strips also, because I've had these blocks tweak alil after torqueing the 2 halves back up. Hopefully you won't need to find a machine shop to line hone the mains. I know it takes extra work and time taking everything apart twice but its worth it man. Trust me. I've built probably too many of these in my life. ACL xtra oil clearance bearings have worked wonders for me on EJ builds. Good Luck!

Might just have Outfront for a line hone for good measure then, no local shops that would be able to do it. And ACL was what a few others have recommended. This will be my first shortblock build so goong into this totally open for suggestions 🙏

The biggest problem is that when you split these short blocks the bearing clearance specs go out the window. 99% of the short blocks I ripped apart never showed the same specs when I put them back together. Even brand new short blocks from the dealer. I used to be a master tech for Subaru 15 years ago. Back then the tech hotline guy from Japan told me that I would never be able to get the specs right without custom line honing and bearing selection. I remember telling him that the aftermarket world will never want to believe this. Anyways, Theres not many places that can line hone these blocks but there are some hidden gems close/in my town. I'm in NEPA though. Lots of sleeving jobs go to a machine shop in NJ. Then to another line honing. So yea get those mains right or you will be sad. Ive been there. And please use a stretch gauge for your rod bolts. I assume you will be using aftermarket rods with ARP bolts. Everything else like normal. I'm also assuming you understand ring gaps. I recommend Manly internals. Teflon coated sideskirts is a big plus if dont want to hear that piston skirt slap. Thats all I have for ya for now buddy. Im keeping my eye on you!! lol

Fun fact about Subaru cylinder heads: when they're being made, the cam journal section/where the cam sits are cnc machined making the cam caps EXTREMELY important to not mix up as they were machined and then separated from the head itself. Be wary of buying used heads with mixed up cam caps.

Yeah stick around 600… my boy just blew the cylinder wall on a close decked ej2.1 stroker was making 630hp… he is rebuilding it now but he had it for about 2weeks :( but the more amazing thing is he is still on his stock 02 wrx 5 speed! Have no idk how the trans didn’t blow first

Yes and no Both EJ25s but diffreneces between the two engines. Newer models have duel AVCS, Diffrent rods, pistons and crank with some.othet changes too

The Cobb ots tune is only meant for their jpipe. I'd be hesitant to use the Cobb tune with a different j pipe. If you go that route, I'd get a custom etune for the peace of mind.
