New 2.3 the destroked motor is not new lol it’s 15 years old at least now. Maybe iag makes it but honestly it ain’t shit untill it has 4mm longer rods and 83mm stroker pistons. Then you have made an actual difference in ratios.

I personally am interested more specifically at your engine build. I am sure there will be others here who will be interested in those numbers so we have more accurate info of cost of build. Here in the uk the 2.5s just dont hold when getting tracked at that power level, we learnt that over 10 years ago, the thinest part is the liners and too much movement from block, cracked liners and headgaskets go all the time at that power level when raced, the only block we use here is ej22 bored to a 2.35, reliable, torque and revs. Under 500flywheel the ej25 is a decent road car.

Tanner, can you explain how you decided your piston ring end gap amount? Is that what Manley suggests for those piston rings and horsepower? Sounds like it depends on what material the top piston ring is made out of? I've seen a few people pushing (0.020 top) and 0.025 second but with 1000 hp+ builds.

Cylinder pressure (aka boost) will be a big factor. Personally I set mine a little tighter on this engine so I do not send it to the moon like I do in most of my engines. Could I anyway, yes but the gaps a bit tight for higher boost levels. There is a formula you can use to capture a rough range for where you should gap the rings to

@@Smeedia Thanks for the advice! I've greatly appreciated all your video's. I have an 04 FXT manual. Its stock right now but i'd like to do a few mild upgrades and make it a little fun, reliable, daily driver. The stock turbo seems a little weak. I was thinking of swapping it for an STI turbo, intercooler, and running a highflow downpipe/cat. Shooting for around 280-300 hp. Currently rebuilding the engine. Planning to run Mahle 4032 pistons. Any thoughts or advice?

What's your opinion on the oem head bolt torque to yield procedure? I have always reused the bolts when doing head gaskets but I've had better luck using an actual ft/lb procedure instead of torquing and angles.

got a 02 wrx n i love the EJ20, so i was thinking of doing a JDM 207 swap into it when this engine eventually blows, but ive also noticed that for basically the same price i could go with a built EJ25. any insight?

Personally I say 25, more support for them. More displacement, easier to find and you can make em rev out pretty far now
