Heated Steering Wheel is the one feature i really don't care about, and i live in the northeast. My last car had it and it was nice but not game changing. My current car lacks it but I find the interior heats up so quickly i haven't noticed and or cared it was missing.

If I lived further north I’d want the heated steering wheel! I ordered my Ranger with the XLT High package just for the heated seats. I’d wouldn’t mind steering wheel being heated also. Your right , makes sense. Should be a put in a package for XLT trim. Like others said a cold weather package. 🥶

Fords strategy seems to be to only sell the higher priced trims so they put the most popular features on those to drive the prices up.

Ford has always locked the heated steering wheel behind top options group. F150 has to be 502A Lariat to get it. Heated steering wheel has never been available on XLT.

Was about to say, not sure what the issue is with a luxury feature being available on more luxury oriented trims. Are there any other models or brands that offer it on lower end models (aside from Maverick apparently)?

@@ALMX5DP yeah you can get it on Ram Big Horn which is their XLT equivalent and I believe Chevy does it on the LT. Toyota you can option on the SR5 I believe too. So only Ford is really stingy about it.

Something I noted when you bought the xlt f150 a couple years back is the de-contenting of trim levels. In 2011 I had a SCAB 4x4 xlt that came with rearview and driver side door dimming mirrors, Now or around the 2020ish time frame you have move up to the lariat. Plus to build my truck from that era (37Kish), that truck now comes in at 57k. Ford is or in my opinion always has been the leader in forcing a whole package to get a minor add, where as other manufacturers can or allow you to do more boutique specing of vehicles when building.

When I ordered my '21 Silverado, I couldn't get certain safety items like pre collision warning with my RST. If I wanted it, I was told I would have to purchase at least the LTZ model for about $8000 more before it was an available option. This really bothered me that they're doing this with safety features. I wrote them and email, and got a "we don't really care" response. I'm sorry, but I think safety features should be available on any model if you're willing to pay for them.

I'm 67 years old. Back in the day they they had the XL XLT. However those trim levels only updated a few cosmetic things. Every option was extra. And there were tons of them. $12 here, $24 there. Power steering and brakes were an option. So was A/C and auto transmission. Then they switched to packages that brought the price way down. Pick your package, and available option and move on. I have a F 350 Lariat loaded. Guess what no heated steering wheel.

There's a lot of customization options that I wish we had on the upcoming Ranger. Would love for XLT to have option for LED lights and B&O sound system are the big two for me.

There was a supply chain issue with the F150 Lariat and other models involving heated steering wheel.According to my dealer here in Nova Scotia, the problem is now corrected and it is available

I ran into a similar thing. So if you are building a F250, you get a standard heated steering wheel on the Lariat, but you can't get it on a lower trim and not even as an option. Not even heated seats. So unlike a bunch of other vehicles that offer a heated seat and wheel on cloth vehicles, not at Ford. I built a XL and XLT that were strangely very close to the same price with the same options, but to get heat I had to get a Lariat so the price jumped up 8k. It seems intentional to me.

To be fair on an F250, you can at least get heated seats- it's built into the "XLT Premium" package. The wheel is annoying though. But not as straight up infuriating that on the F150, you can't get heated anything on the SuperCab anymore- it only goes up to 301A on the XLT, and heated seats are on 302A, which is crew cab only- literally just checked on the Build and Price using a SuperCab F250, 2024. I've seen a lot of comments saying the packages are annoying, vs individual options, but I also get this isn't the 80s anymore, and trucks have a *lot* more options, and with how many they build, having *every single thing* be an individual option just isn't feasible like it was 30-40 years ago.

⁠@@ALMX5DP back when you used to be able to pick individual features on your vehicle. Used to be that way until the 90s for most cars, trucks were that way too until the 2000s. Everything from the seat materials, power doors, driveline type, defroster, power windows, power mirrors, engine, sliding rear window, transmission, tow mirrors, trailer brake, trailer hitch, auxiliary cooler, interior and exterior colors, heated steering wheel and seats, radio set up, fuel tank size, etc. just about every feature could be mixed and matched without having to buy additional features you didn’t want/need.

This has been Ford’s packaging structure for many years. No heated wheel on F150s etc unless you go Lariat or higher. However on some other vehicles- like an Expedition for example it’s on the XLT. Crazy they don’t make it a standalone option to add to the trim of your choice. I just bought a new ‘23 F250 Superduty Tremor, XLT. $71k truck loaded with options, including 360 cameras, moonroof, heated seats….no heated wheel. In fact for $71k you get a nice urethane steering wheel- not even leather wrapped.

This is a similar shell game that all truck companies play it seems. I had a similar experience (Silverado 1500) when I realized i had to go up a few trim levels and packages to be able to get a power sliding rear window and power folding mirrors. Both very handy for me. Test drove a $79k msrp truck here in Canada that still had a solid back window?? Needless to say that is not the direction i went with my purchase.

Can’t even get it in the 2023 higher trim Lariat. Just walked the Ford dealership and the Lariat has a $150 discount for heated steering wheel delete. A 70-75k truck with no heated steering wheel.

Tim, my 23 xlt maverick hybrid has a heated steering wheel, 2wd. My 83 thousand dollar 23 King Ranch PB doesnt! It was blocked out on the order selector. I guess Im forced to drive the maverick when its cold and leave the 4wd in the garage thats heated so the stupid steering wheel can be comfortable. Ford engineers must be ignorant.

Same situation with Honda and Accura, you have to go to the top of the line trim level to get heated steering wheel to get it. I think it is idiotic to not pair heated steering wheels with heated seats. This has Marketing written all over it and is why I hate marketing people.

Doesn't matter where - or if - it's included, to me. The price of new vehicles (not just Fords) has increased too much, and I can't afford one. And I'm a Ford retiree. Wall Street has been pushing the companies to increase transaction prices for years, saying if they do that, the stock price will go up. Well, transaction prices have sure gone through the roof now, and stock prices for automotive have barely budged.

That’s why I didn’t purchase a ford! The trucks are priced why to high to get all creature comforts! If you want all the comforts you will end up driving off the lot with a $1,500 monthly payment. In 2020 I was going to get another ford, but back then they were high during Covid. So I ended up buying a Ram with most of the creatures comforts and $15,000 leads than the ford lariat. People keep buying them, so why bring the prices down lol !!!

The fact that you need to go xlt and High equipment package to get powered seats is also slightly ridiculous. They seem to be prioritizing unnecessary tech over functionality. They also just play a balancing act with the features. 2023 included a spare tire lock standard. 2024 has a dampened tailgate, but you lost the spare tire lock.

better have those gloves ready. I saw this kind of thing when my wife and daughter each bought a Honda. There are features that you'd think would be universal, but are locked behind trim levels. My wife bought a 2023 CRV and due to budget concerns her trim level doesn't have roof rails. Imagine an SUV with no roof rails. To get them she would have had to go up tp the hybrid and spend more money. They are all doing this now.

Yup, more BS from the car manufacturers, I just priced an F150 with minimal options, with a 5.0 coyote motor, and ventilated seats, now I’m at $70,000, for a half ton truck, why you might ask, because you gotta step up to the next truck package, meaning in an XLT you cannot get that, so we have to go up to the Lariat package, what is going on, $70,000 for a half ton truck is unbelievable. So basically, I’m really re-considering things and not buying a brand new 1/2 ton truck for $70,000. I can buy a three-quarter ton truck or a 1 ton truck, probably without ventilated seats, but I’m getting a truck that can do something, meaning with some real towing capacity and usable payload capacity.
