@@PanicAcid PS7 is the way to go; do t worry about the Auto software. Learn the limits of the 2000 series and you’ll want a 4425A anyway 😆

Thank you for this info. I have a 2205A and I was using the hacked software. My place of employment has a 4425A or as they call it, The Mopar-Scope and they have us use pico 7 which, when it works, is a lot easier for people with less scope experience.

@@MechanicMindset I honestly just bought the 2205A to familiarize myself with the Pico software. I have no baseline to compare it to. Before that, I used a Hantek, Snapon Verus Edge and a little single channel called a Uscope which is awesome. The shop getting forced to have the 4425A is a blessing because it saved me almost $4000 USD

I understand completely. I bought a 2205A, which is pretty much the same as the one you have and I just use the normal software for it. I don't wish to cheat companies out of their hard earned dollars, and think that picotech is a great company. I also really appreciate the automotive related videos that you've done using the cheaper version, as I'm just a personal diy'er and want to do as much as I can for myself. I'll never be able to afford one of the automotive specific scopes. Thanks again for your time and efforts and for sharing.

Pico guys consider automotive scope when input voltage is 50v and has the floating ground... thats why they dont allow our old ones of 20v to be part Its also a good marketing to force us to buy newer models pico 6 automotive also has the new feature to upload the waveform in a library to share with others.. I dont need pico 7 but would like to use also the diagnostics software with my old one!! cheers mate thx take care

The diagnostics software and waveform library are great features. The automotive scope is totally worth it, but if you’re still getting to grips with scope diagnostics, the cheaper scopes do just fine. What scope are you using?

I've ran this scope for a while now thanks to your videos. I already see some of the limitations of the scope such as deep recording and zooming in it can loose a lot of detail also the limitations of only having 2 channels. Now my budget doesn't stretch to an automotive version just yet, I've just purchased the 2405a to have the increase in channels and the better resolution when deep recording.

@@MechanicMindset only ordered last night and their shut until new-year so yet to see the difference. But the specs are a whole lot higher all be it shared across more channels, but when in single or double channel it should out perform the 2204a

@@MechanicMindset aye its still an 8bit scope. I'm currently battling a lot of noise in waveforms from my laptop charger, the charger. It is only 2 pin not a 3pin clover connector going to the inverter so new charger ordered in the hope to clean the waveforms up

Update on this. The 2405a is a lot better than the 2204a. Still has its limitations with it only being 8 bit but can really see the difference between the 2

Hi; thanks for your great videos. I just downloaded picoscope 7 and have been trying out the demo mode and I think it is brilliant. I did notice that when I downloaded it picoscope said the 2000 series will not be supported in picoscope 7 version . but in this video you said it was supported for this model.

So I've got the pico scope 2204a *AND* the pico scope 7 automotive software. Now all I have to do is learn how to use it with my new gaming laptop my son gave me. Why did I mention that? Well I'm also in the process of purchasing a MST 9000+ engine simulator, which I intend to use for ECU repair. My question is, can I use my 2204a for troubleshooting ECU or do I need a bench scope - like a Siglent or Rigol entry level oscilloscope. I'm thinking my 2204a should work because the engine simulator puts out the same signals as a real engine does. Keep in mind I'm not an auto technician but I *was* an electronic technician who branched over to marine electrical installation, troubleshooting and repair for the past 15 years, so I'm a little rusty with electronics but I do remember how most components and circuits work. Oh, I almost forgot, I will be also purchasing your pico training course, so I can get uP to speed quickly - rather than me fumbling around with this scope. As always your input is very much appreciated. thank you.

Amazing! The 2204a will be up to the job, so will the laptop. The better processor and RAM will help. You’ll have to use normal PicoScope 7, download it from Picotech.com (don’t worry, all the Main features are the same). Looking forward to seeing you inside. I think Pico scope was the best bank for the buck. But I think the company made a bad decision by trying to shut out the little guy with closing the door to Pico 6. Just look at how many people bought their low-end product because there was a back door into Pico 6 automotive. That represents revenue for the company. Now with PECO 7 the file is way too large for what it's worth and to get the automotive oscilloscope is at a price point where now you can buy a fluke oscilloscope on eBay for a better price. Just look at harbor freight or all of the auto part companies that recycle oil for free; all of these companies are very successful right now because they leave a little freebie to draw in more customers and thus more revenue. There's more to business than numbers on paper

I like to try and show people that you don’t need the Automotive software; I never use the automotive features. It will serve well to learn the settings, then you can do things that aren’t even covered by the automotive safety net 👍 The 2204A is like the gateway to better things; you will appreciate the expensive scope after getting used to the cheap one. And the software is the same. I am looking for a more convenient option right now. Might try the hand held Hantek for quick checks. What are you using?

Hi, great channel, I've just subscribed. How does the picoscope 2204a compare with the Hantek 1008c? The Hantek has a higher resolution, more channels but also has all sorts of tests bundled in with its software eg relative compression, canbus tests, injector tests etc. Are they just gimmicks? Would I still be better off with the Pico?

Just saw you’re other comment. That other Hantek video was for the 6022be, I have actually just bought a 1008c to test out. The resolution is the seller for that. I still love my 2204a and is a great entry in to the world if scoping, the software is great and to retain the learning if you want to move up to the flagship 4425 👍

@@MechanicMindset I was particularly interested in the relevant compression test. I noted that you couldn't pause the screen on the 6022. I gather its the same issue on the 1008c. But I do like the simple interface for setting up the tests. I look forward to your findings! :)

Good explanation Darren. I started with a DSO138 kit that I put together and probably used for about 4 years before I went up in price and quality............now I have 8 oscilloscopes, including the 4425A BNC plus, which I am using the Pico 7 software. Having used Pico 6 for so long, it is taking this old dog some time to get my head around the new software. But practice make perfect & the more I use it the more confident I am becoming in its use. DSO138, great place to start, literally the most basic scope available 👍. I bought a Hantek 6022be first, but like you my collection is growing 😅. Got the 4425A, but most recently the Hantek 1008c; just had to see what it was like! Same on Pico 7, some features missing and I’m not enjoying the extra clicks required for the basic adjustments. But it’s better than 6 for beginners. Cheers

Even after this hack was killed, I was able to find another way to get the 2204A to work with the Automotive software, including access to the waveform library. It took a lot more than simply deleting a file, but it worked and I still use it to this day... I'll have to see if I can do the same with Picoscope 7 soon.

@@NorthEastRepair Great! Yes, you can use the 60A probe options (60A & 20A mode) that are already there for Pico amp clamp, same range as CC65. For the CC650, you would have to make one. I have a waveform library you can sign up to, link in description. When I remember , I’ll add the probe files there and you can import them 👍
