I've always said Climate Change is like rabies. Once the symptoms start, there's no cure. 😢

Crazy pics! WOW I always have fresh water (and food) out for my deer, birds, turkeys and raccoons. Water bill went up at least $15 to $20 a month but have to save the wildlife. Also put out a kiddie pool for the raccoons.

Very nice. I live in apartment and put a wet towel in tub for kitty. She sleeps on it.

I live in Colorado USA which is technically a desert because we get only 15 inches of precipitation per year (FYI 10 inches of snow is 1 inch of rain). When I was a teenager during the drought in the 1970s, it was a big deal to his 90 degrees more than once or twice all summer. The worst year was 1976 when we hit 90 or above 13 times with 5 consecutive days in July. Now we're counting the number of days we reach 100 or above. This summer (2024) we've had 6 days of 100+ which is the 3rd highest number of days. That said, the night time temps get down to the upper 60s low 70s so it cools off when the sun goes down, and it's very dry here so the heat is tolerable. The photos of brown grass seem normal to me since that's how every summer gets here, especially when the government limits how often we can irrigate our lawns.

I am so very grateful I live in a very moderate climate. We had some drought in 2022 but no temperatures like the ones shown here. I'm thinking about the people who died because of the hot weather. I wish their loved ones the best.

At my job I’m the only one who has to go out and get carts. And no matter how hot it is and how many I bring in it’s never enough. It’s always “Aubrey, go get carts” thirty seconds after I got carts last at MOST. I bring in a dozen and they still do everything they can to kick me out. And when I try to reason with them they all me rude Me: “I just brought in ten carts.” Then: “Don’t sass me.”

I visited Bok Gardens in South Florida years ago , I noticed they had these flat basins with a small drip coming from a spigot above,they told me they keep them on for all the wildlife,insects,etc,because of the heatwaves! I had never thought about that ,It got so hot here all of the small ponds dried up, I put trays of water out and was surprised at all the different critters that came to drink! Even the snakes! Trying to come up with a more permanent solution!

In one of the 2023 heatwaves it reached 118° two days in a row and fried my car radio. It still won't work and I really miss it

I'm not criticizing, these are crazy examples. I will point out that I hope this builds a little empathy though. I live in a very hot and humid climate in the southern U.S., even in my childhood in the 80's and 90's, high 90's were incredibly common with heat indices well over 100 degrees. It is definitely getting hotter, I won't deny that at all, and all weather is getting more extreme. My point is that it's very hurtful to be criticized by people who live in typically cooler climates when we shut down because of ice and snow - we literally don't have the infrastructure, like plows, to deal with that, so it's safer for things to just shut down. I'm used to 90's with +100 heat indices, but I'm not criticizing people who are shocked by 90 degree weather, I feel for them precisely because I know how unpleasant it is. So, those of you who live in climates known for being typically cooler, please remember how devasted you feel at dealing with this insane heat when the seasons flip and your southern neighbors struggle with temperatures you so boldly claim is still "light-jacket weather." We are all suffering and we should all be helping each other. Some of the suggestions here, like tin-foiling windows, are great. Let's keep that spirit of camaraderie going! Shout out to the Aussies with melting roads... you've got me beat by miles! :)

5:25 your tires would melt
@itt20552 ай бұрын
Yes, they did, Adelaide South Australia has a recorded highest temperature of 50.3c this was in the city itself and people's tyres did melt. Personally, it was the only time I actually used my air-conditioner, but I did grow up with week long heatwaves during summer that were between 40-45c. Our weather patterns have changed dramatically over the past 20 years and now we receive more rainfall from each individual storm, but the yearly rainfall is lower. South Australia is the driest state in the driest continent in the world.
