Intermittent fasting works really really well. Im not going to lie though, the first week or so is tough, but working out on an empty stomach works wonders. You burn more fat when you workout fasted and your HGH goes up. I would recommend starting off with a 8 hour eating window and then working it to 4 hour window over a couple of weeks. Ive done the 6 small meals a day thing but intermittent fasting works much better. Just like anything else it takes discipline but results are the biggest motivator. Complex carbs are your best friend. They take longer to digest and help you feel fuller longer. (brown rice, black beans, sweet potato, oatmeal etc). And DRINK WATER. A lot of times when youre hungry, youre actually just thirsty. So drink up. And lastly, don't give up. Even if you fail don't give up. I cant tell you how many times i started then stopped. Started then stopped. Would go a week strong then boom, kill the fast. miss a couple workouts. But i tried again and again until i could stick with it. Falling isn't the issue, its not getting back up that will amount to dissapointment. .

Bingo! IM is nothing special or revolutionary. The reason for the success stories is mostly down to obese people switching to a healthy diet while starting IF. The same results are possible regardless of when one consumes the calories.

Interesting. This is something I have done many times before but it wasn't intentional in the sense that I said "okay tomorrow I'll start the fasting". Many times I would wake up and not feel hungry so I simply wouldn't eat until the afternoon (maybe even later) anyway. Whenever I would tell people that I haven't eaten anything yet, they're like "hey, that's not good"
@riopato2009
@riopato2009 8 жыл бұрын
That's because modern society trained us as children to have 3 square meals morning afternoon and evening. My retort to this type of comment is that it didn't hurt the cave man or pre-agricultural civilization where Humans had to either forage or hunt for their food the moment they woke up. They didn't have access to eggs and waffles in the morning and they certainly didn't have a planned dinner schedule to cook at night.

That's the same with me too. On the weekdays when I don't have the time to sit down and eat breakfast, I just don't eat until noon or 1 and I'm perfectly fine. I've noticed that if I do eat breakfast, I would get more hungry throughout the day and thus, would make me want to eat more.

There is a very high probability of you breaking your fast if you start fasting at 8 PM if you go to bed at 10 PM then it is not going to be a problem but if you go to bed later you’re going to go hungry and you feel sleep deprived and in order to do that better if you eat two hours before you sleep so then start your fasting accordingly otherwise it’s going to be very suffocating for you

I'm on intermittent fasting for 6 months now, my schedule is waking at 5 am, eating large breakfast at 8:30, eating small meal at lunch and i eat little around 5 pm. And i did not go to gym and i don't do much exercise but still i have very less fat, yes it is very helpful, people say I'm crazy cuz i don't eat dinner and sometimes i regret it. So i decided to have maximum of 2 cheat day, on which i eat dinner, only on some some occasions or family gatherings to have fun. I will suggest you should try it, its hard in the beginning but you love it only after few days.

Hello, im doing IF for fat loss for 17 days now. Everything is fine, i ve been fasting for at least 16 hours per day (yesterday i did for 24). I also keep my carb intake pretty low (maybe about 20%). I work out fasted and after that i eat. My body composition is drastically changing, im seeing more muscle definition, and even though im in a deficit every day, i think my lifts have actually gone up, so i might have actually put on some gramms of lean muscle. When fasting, i have amazing mental clarity, my brain feels a lot quicker and after 2 days i wasnt as hungry as the 1st day. It got easily manageable. I definately reccomend it for almost everyone ( there are always some exceptionts) and in combination with a low carb intake it works wonders for fat loss or muscle gain as for overall health. Glad if could help some of you.

I want to point out something to the people who do not exercise regularly and are thinking about trying IF for the first time. If you want a body that has decent strength and lean muscle mass then you absolutely need to incorporate physical training into this type of diet. Because if you don't work out appropriately then you will lose Fat AND Muscle simultaneously. This will leave you looking like a smaller version of your current self with the only discernible difference being the weight on the scale going down.

I've tried IF for 3 weeks now and it's not a big deal. The first week was difficult because I used to eat since I just woke up until minutes before I went to sleep, and I was taking 3 meals a day plus 2 or 3 snacks. That's why I decided to reduce the window gradually, taking off 1 hour every day, and currently I'm eating since 12 noon until 8 PM and going to bed at 12 midnight so I don't have to wait 8 hours to eat. I'm still doing exercise in the mornings plus walking a lot during the day and I feel great. I don't feel tired nor sleepy every day as before, actually I feel energized and more lucid. I have no cravings any more during the fasting period, and even when it's time to eat. I think my body just got used to it. I'm eating pretty much the same things and I always get satisfied, but I'm just eating less food during the whole day. Now I'm gonna try to reduce carbs like bread and pasta and increase fats, proteins, fruits and vegetables (because of the micronutrients). I'm so happy because I can see my abs again!

@@bharatv5587 Yeah I understand that but if you limit the period of time you are allowed to eat you're going to eat less because you're limited by stomach capacity. I'd have about 400 calories for lunch and then what I had for dinner varied between 500 and 1000 calories. So on average I was on a caloric deficit and yet I didn't lose weight. (This was all unintentional I just skipped breakfast because I never felt like eating first thing and by the time I get hungry I may as well wait for lunch and I'm not really a snacker which is why I only had 2 meals a day within an 8hr period)

There's no money on IF. Thing is free, easy, and it works; however, more and more nutritionist are turning into IF because it works, gets you healthier and it's immensely less restrictive than traditional hypocaloric diets, which most people fail. If you're nutritionist, the intelligent thing to do is adapt and implement IF to your practice. It's just matter of time before IF becomes a global phenomena, which is good because more studies will be conducted.

Here's my eating timing 8am-4pm! But I don't eat any fried food, I eat rice only once a week, drink atleast 2-3 litres of water Everyday! If I ever do feel hungry when I'm "fasting", I snack on 11almonds and dayum I swear you're good to go! ALL THE BEST IF YOU'RE DOING THIS THE FIRST TIME! I was one who believed the whole eat 5-6 meals a day and never seen the results I wanted till I tried IF. Its an amazing tool, but it is just a tool! It still always boils down to calories vs calories out, so if eating 5-6 times a day makes you feel better then make sure your still in a calorie deficit either at the end of the day or end of the week. Not to a great degree - glucose can be derived from the glycerol backbone of triglycerides, which is not a lot of energy. The more important point about fasting is that by using ketones the body simply needs less glucose overall.

I'm doing this for 14 days already and planning to stick with it forever. It made my life so much easier by having just 3 meals in an 8 hour eating window. Since I'm also trying to lose some weight I have calorie restriction to 1200, with light exercise and a balance meal. If I wanted to do high impact I load up on complex carbs and protein making sure at the end of the day I still stick to my calorie count. But for people who doesn't need to lose weight and want leaner body. Consume your daily calorie need maybe 2000 -2500.

For a natty like me,that kind of eating time works better than eating every 2 to 3 hours..I eat 5 whole eggs at meal 3 because it's like cassein and bcaa..I lift 3 hours after first meal..Going to the gym is part of discipline and so does eating regime. You have to control your hunger. When it comes to strength,I am always energetic and doing full body workout 3x a day..it's fun trust me

This is what works for me (10lbs in 4-5 weeks): IF: Don't eat after 6:30 PM, Eat Veggies @ 11AM, Meats @12PM, Snack at 3PM Dinner @5-6PM I cut all "Carbs" (no rice, pasta, bread, etc.) from Monday to Wednesday. Thursday I can't hold on any longer and have my cheat day (while still maintaining IF) Friday & Saturday I cut carbs again and eat healthy for lunch but don't fret about it if I have some social event / drinks / dinner with friends etc. that includes carbs or eating past 6:30PM Sunday I begin to reset for Monday (also do meal prep for 3-4 meals. I also workout 30mins - 1 hour: Monday - Mostly Arms & some Legs Tuesday - Cardio or Swimming Wednesday - Deadlift / Bench Thursday - I teach dance class so nothing... Friday - Leg Day / Squats! Saturday - Light Cardio Sunday - Back Low weight, low intensity for 2-3 weeks if you're a beginner to get used to it and build technique. Workout 4 weeks, off 5th week. Rinse and Repeat.

PictureFit, 1:35 Fat is not converted to glucose In humans. Only glycerol part of fatty acids can be converted to glucose and its amount is so small that it can be neglected. If fat was converted to glucose, keto diet wouldn't exist. Glucagon causes glycogen catabolism.

Lipid metabolism for glucose exists. It's one of the reasons why glycogenolysis can still occur even with low-carb diets. If anything, it feeds into the efficacy of keto diets. And yes, glucagon's role is to raise blood sugar level and best way to do so during fast is breakdown of glycogen.

Yes but it's only 10% this transformation. The main problem is that we store fat when we eat both sugar and fat together. There is also a very important thing,

I'm similar. it's frustrating because IF would be very convenient when dealing with a work schedule because you can basically ignore food for most of the day. But I get very sick feeling and miserable when I'm not eating regularly in the day. I tried working out in a fasted state before and I was weak and halfway through I felt horrific and my friend said my face turned completely white. Had to stop right there and go eat. I couldn't even stand up straight.

I did it for two weeks straight and the results were instantaneous. Even if I didn’t change my eating habits I had lost around 1kg. However I stopped doing it during holiday week, and sadly started eating a lot more than I used to. What’s worse is that when I went back to IF last week I couldn’t manage my hunger, so I’m actually overeating now, especially when breaking fast. Fortunately I didn’t gain any weight but it goes to show that IF only works if you manage to maintain a healthy and balanced diet, just like any other weight loss method, really. I should really adjust my diet, and actually do some exercise so my IF can work better

you are 13, don't go on a diet unless you are overweight. What you should do is follow a health diet with sufficient calories. At the same time do resistance training. Your body will change fairly quickly (like in a few months, not days) because of your age and the fact that you are a beginner to weight training

I'll try to be brief and descriptive as possible. My usual routine is I wake at 7:50 around that and then i eat like a banana or even a sandwich sometimes then I drive and workout about 9:30. This time was no different what changed was the eating, I only drunk 2 cups of coffee and didn't eat anything . I was feeling pretty normal . Then I start the workout , it's weightlifting, and it was a leg day and I wanted to do a strength workout, a short one. So I started with squats with 5reps to failure , 4 sets, was feeling normal until the 4 set , I started to see black in the last rep but I kinda ignored it as it was sometimes normal when I push my self, then I mooved on to the deadlift , also strength and here is where shit got fucked up , did like 3 reps and my BPM were very high, about 160 so I calm my self down and then I thought just gonna do an abs exercise and them I'm done so I won't push my self , did cable crunch and still felt my BPM were exploding after the exercise , so I leave the gym at the pace I could . And then it's like a 15 minute drive which was a absolute nightmare , I took 1 hour to get home i was so afraid to pass out while driving I stopped so many tkmes my, salvation was I had some cookies in my bag but still felt like crap when I got home, arrived at 11:50 and I'm currently eating an apple and went to the bathroom take a number 2 still feeling light headed but a lot better . How is it even possible to fast this was a nightmare , was it the coffee? Was it the strength training? Should I deload when fasting? Should I eat something small and nutritious like a boiled egg before the workout in the morning ? Fyi my profile: 1,86 cm. 80kg. The body fat machine says I'm 5% but I don't believe cause I can't see any abs, only when I flex,, so would say around 8-14% but I'm really not sure . TL;Dr : made a strength workout while in fasted state , almosto passed out and my BPM was super high . Only drank coffee before the workout . This is my Reddit post but the mods wouldn't let me post it

The way that I do it is I do not eat after 8pm, or preferably after 6pm. I generally go to bed between 12am-2am and once I wake up I have a protein shake and go to the gym. I don't usually get to eat until around 1pm-3pm. This works great for me because I find that the lack of food being digested and going through your system allows your body to completely clean out (improving digestion overall) and deflate. Also this allows your body's energy to go towards running properly all around rather than expending that energy digesting food constantly. Health revolves around the stomach. Think about it like a drain; if you put something down the sink it will go down with a little time, but generally be pretty smooth. If you keep piling it on though, it all clumps together and now you have a blockage. This blockage will/can eventually wash away but not as quickly or as easily as it would have if put in separately.

Been doing IF for about 5 weeks now. When I do eat it is between Noon to 8 PM because it works best with my school schedule. I am confused however that since then I have gained 9 lbs, and while I've been doing IF I have been in a caloric deficit. My diet primarily consists of grilled chicken, white rice, raw vegetables, almonds and organic almond butter, cottage cheese, and salmon(non-breaded). My workout routine consists of 5-6 days of lifting per a week where I rotate from shoulders+back one day, Legs and core the next, and the third day I work my arms, following by the 4th day being a rest day.

anything below 10% of body fat gets harder to maintain so do be careful because your weight isn't due to body fat anymore but muscle mass and losing more than 2lbs a week might mean you are losing muscle too. Your focus now is staying on top of your macros especially heavy starches to avoid losing muscle.

For many many years I did this naturally. I woke up with little time before going to work. Then I usually worked through lunch and only ate once I got home. You really do get use to this and throughout the day I was not hungry. When I got home I would want to eat a medium meal then latter that night I would eat again before going to bed. Key was to drink water often throughout the day.

I did a very basic regimen of jump rope, planks, modified burpees, dead lifts, lunges, and side to side skier (not sure of the actual name). I only did IF on weekdays for three months and stopped taking one of my diabetic meds and lost 18 pounds, and 10 inches off my body, while gaining some muscle mass. I recommend it, but don't stress if you mess up. Jump right back in.

Great clip. The only thing I'd take issue with is the best results are 18-24 hr. fasts. To deal with the hunger I eat 1/2 an apple or similar fruit in the morning. It provides enough energy to finish the fast but doesn't cause a big spike in insulin. I tried a 24-hour fast a few times but only after a big meal at a buffet or something.

Now I've come home for Easter and decided to get fit and all of a sudden I see this and realise that my 'bad' eating habits are actually conducive to working out! I started training today and I've already done my workout for the day (it's just gone 14:00) - I'm only just starting to feel hungry! Moral of the story - do your research because the effect your current routine is having on your body might not be what you expect.

I rarely get hungry during my fast anymore and I can easily do a physical job where I'm walking and lifting heavy weight for up to 5 hours before my first meal of the day. If you have the self control, do it! I've never been leaner with this much muscle in my life.

The best thing about it is that you actually start to understand your body and realize that what you thought was hunger before usually is either thurst or cravings rather then real hunger, once you get over the hump to understand that, it's just smooth sailing and it becomes very easy and very effective.

Have been doing it for months, it is difficult during the first two weeks or so because of the hunger, but after that it got better and better for me.

During my sem exams I could hardly hit the gym. To keep my testo levels up and to lose weight (hated cardio) I did 18/6 IF. Helped me lose weight, gain definition. Huge fan of IF.

I started seriously dieting and exercising a little over a year ago. The weight loss was slow going, but I managed to lose about 10-15 lbs with traditional dieting before hitting a plateau. Some months ago I started intermittent fasting and lost an additional 15 lbs. I'm 5'11" and a little under 170 lbs now with pretty good muscle to fat ratio (I'd guess somewhere between 12-15% body fat) and still losing weight. Intermittent fasting works extremely well for me. So well in fact that I've considered increasing my caloric intake a couple of times. Won't be doing that until fall though.

In the beginning I was really irritable during the morning period of intermittent fasting but now I can get to 12pm with no feeling of irritabllility at all. Now it feels really natural and when I feel a bit hungry I usually just have a cup of tea with no sugar or milk (I use a bit of almond milk (which is only 40 cals per 250mls).

There is also the Eat Stop Eat schedule which is two or even three whole days without eating within a week. Between those 24 hours fasting periods there must be at least 3 meals or a whole day of feeding. And of course the effectiveness of the fat burning is tied to how much you eat on each feeding period, which is why its author, Brad Pilon, recommends and emphasizes that you eat what you normally would do without fasting, neither a strict diet nor a binge. Naturally a feast once in a while won't be a problem.

I do OMAD. It was tough the first day, but by the end of the week, a 48 hour fast was easy. Eating high fat helps. Will do a five day fast the beginning of next month. I also workout in a fasted state. I've lost inches in my waist to the point that I've pulled up 3 notches on my belt...after 2 weeks. My wife was doing keto, so now we've merged our plans. She's lost 15 pounds after 3 weeks.

I'm doing a lighter version of IF- my window starts at 6PM however, or even 12AM because I'm up during most of the night. I start with a breakfast of a slice of toast/orange/ a tiny bit of oatmeal and coffee, and I don't eat until 6PM for the rest of the day. Ive done this for two to three months now, and this is what I've learned: 1. You'll need lots of water or you'll feel sick 2. Vitamins are a double edged sword, they keep you from feeling sick and weak but they also make you hungrier. I still recommend them. 3. It gets much easier to do with time. The first week is hell, three months later its routine 4. The smallest dietary decisions in the day can drastically change your overall weekly weight loss. So I can lose 3.5 lbs to 1.5 lbs a week based on whether I had an afternnon snack or extra cup of coffee one day. 5. You'll feel weaker and more tired throughout the day 6. Working out, outside of your window, will be nearly impossible. You'll burn your liver's sugar and glycogen stores fast, and when I do it, it feels like I'm nearly passing out. 7. You don't only lose fat, you lose some muscle too. Henceforth you lose definition. Don't expect for your six pack to suddenly appear while doing this diet. 8. You can do cheat days and stay on track, just don't do two in a row in one week or you'll destroy all your weight loss goals for the week. 9. The first few weeks you'll lose a ton of weight if you're not hydrated, because that's all water weight. 10. You will savor that one or one and a half meals you'll get to have during your window. I find myself trying all new kinds of healthy recipes and such, and eating less when I do get to eat because my stomach has shrunk. Overall, I recommend IF for shorterm high intensity weight loss. Don't do IF if you're expecting to lose a large amount of weight over a long period of time. But If you quickly want to lose a small chunk of weight 10 or 20 lbs for an event or date, IF can be a good option. But its more a question of your will and resilience.

Yesterday was my first day on IF...last ate at 8pm last night. Ate 2200 cals which is my goal daily for some gains but was spread over 5 meals. Yesterday consumed it on 2 large meals at 130pm and at 8pm. It's 933am now and I eat next at 1pm...not even hungry right now. I'm also doing SL5x5 for the past 3 months with some modest gains in those 3mos of SL and a 40/40/20 (p/f/c) 2200cal diet. No weight loss but lost 3% BF so far. Diet is the hardest part for me as I have a very busy job and life schedule and fitting in 5 meals a day is difficult. Will see how this goes.

I've been Intermittent Fasting for about 3 weeks now and have lost about 11lbs. when I started IF i weighed in at 217lbs this morning I weighed in at 206. Regular diets have never worked for me becuase I just love good tasting food. Ive tried them all from More frequent small meals to juicing. None have worked for me... But with IF you basically save your calories for your eating window and eat normal meals... I just gotta this is now a way of life for me...

Takes a month to get use to but its great overall not just for weight loss but it keeps you focus and gives you energy from what i experience from fasting, doing 18-20/ 2 meals a day. I lost 14lb from 221-207 in a month but im also very active. I walk about 8k-10 steps a day but i go to the gym 4 times a week.
