Rather than just having a scheduled cheat day, I just treat myself when I feel it's okay. For me, scheduled cheat days are just a mess. If I have them on a scheduled day, there's a chance I'll be forced to feel like I have to eat junk food when I don't want to because I'm prone to stick to a schedule. I'd much rather save the calories for a time when I need them, like if friends ask to go out for pizza or some cake at a birthday party. Of course everyone is differerent, this is just my personal take with cheat days.

No longer did I cave in to cravings. I write down things I want and make a list. Sunday comes and I eat whatever I want. Granted I workout 3-5 days a week every week, the range of days is schedule permitting. I have been losing weight at a steady pace, and have found that I am incredibly disciplined during the week. Oh btw if I break my diet during the week I penalize myself and take away cheat day. If something comes up during the week like a birthday dinner, I just substitute that for cheat day.

A "cheat" meal is nothing more than a tool to help you continue your diet from a mental standpoint. There really isn't a physical reason for a cheat meal. Also, these are supposed to be limited to an increase in calories up to and a little (A LITTLE) over your TDEE, not an excuse to binge.

If you cant see your abs and aren't starving yourself into a prep this won't really help you much besides a mental break.

Actually I disagree. Cheat meals increase leptin levels, a hormone that helps tell your brain when it is full Not only that but just like a body gets used to exercises, it gets used to a diet as well. Cheat meals (if only used no more than once a week) keep your body from plateauing and growing used to the amount of calories you're placing in your body so that it can take notice to the reduction of calories more so than it would without the cheat meal.

Oh my! I love this! My husband and I have been eating 4 times a day--breakfast, lunch, dinner, and an evening snack--about 400 calories each--about 4 hours apart. We allow one break day a week. Then Jeff and I decided that our break day was too much of a big binge day so we modified it to a break meal. That has been very doable for us! Some weeks we even skip our break meal or break day. I love how you describe how a "cheat" day or meal works in the long scheme of our total calories of the week! This is awesome! I will share your video with my friends and family! I have been documenting our weight loss on our Anchor Moments KZbin channel ever since I got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I am down 39 pounds so far and my husband is down 64! Jeff is almost to his goal weight and I am still far away from mine but look forward to doing this continually for a much healthier lifestyle. If you allow yourself a break meal or day for holidays and special occasions, it makes following a lower calorie diet much easier. It makes it liveable! Thanks for sharing in such a positive fun way! Love your cartoons too! :)

Cheat days and refeed days are not the same. Cheat days you splurge on whatever you like, refeed days are days where you eat maintenance calories or slightly higher, also all your macros are planned on re feeds and the extra calories should mostly come from carbs not fat.
@PictureFit8 жыл бұрын
I agree, but most people's "cheat" meals are carb-heavy, so they can both serve the same purpose. Even on cheat days, I would still consider macro and calorie count.
@drmmerguy1608 жыл бұрын
Awesome videos. This is all really, really good, accurate information based on the available science. Very Refreshing and enjoyable to watch. for the sake of clarity it should be noted that there is a difference between a "refeed" and a "Cheat day." A refeed is a planned, structured return to at or near maintenance calories using the structure and food choices of your current diet. Essentially just creating one day of neutral dietary impact as you have not gone into a surplus for said day. Refeeds are a great tool for a mental/ physical break, and as a tool to increasing training intensity E.g. refeeding before Leg day. Cheat meals/days are a planned deviation from any structure of the diet and tend to focus on foods we crave or "Bad" Foods. ( I know, I know. foods are only bad or good in context of the entire diet) Both can be useful tools. once again. Awesome videos.
@PictureFit8 жыл бұрын
Yea, there are more "formal" terms for refeeding, but IMO they serve an almost identical purpose to cheat meals/days. After all, I think many cheat meals can be planned to serve the exact purpose while still including some "bad" foods. And Thanks ;)

I've found that having a cheat day a few times throughout a month really helps. And by this I mean eating above my calorie limit (which is 1,200) but below my BMR (1,900). It's honestly awesome because I I get back on track the day after and I keep on going! :)
@twylabeachy7028 Жыл бұрын
So I know you posted this comment six years ago, but you should never eat fewer calories than your BMR. You might have known this already, but your BMR is the amount of calories your body needs to live. If you go under that, your body could go into starvation mode, which will then make it way harder to lose weight.

I work my butt off nothing wrong with some treat days as long as it keeps you moving forward. Personally I think it's good to give your body a little confusion for more success and gains.

your body isn't going to absorb all 5000 calories. it can't. that's why it's okay to have cheat days. in my experience cheat days = plateau busters. I weigh at most 2 lbs heavier the next day. at max, 2 days after that I will break through plateau. (I consider a plateau not losing weight for a week)
@PictureFit8 жыл бұрын
How much of it is it going absorb?
@WorldChampInfinity8 жыл бұрын
PictureFit Well, I don't have an exact percentage. All I have is experience and some examples. Think about eating 500 grams of protein in a day. Are you going to wake up a hulk the next day having absorbed all of it into your muscles? No, you're going crap a lot of it out. Think about competitive eaters, the skinny ones, even after practicing they don't throw up. So they have 10k-20k calories, maybe more, in their system.
@grotriansteinweg38238 жыл бұрын
the body's inability to turn excess protein into muscle is a different process to the body storing calories as fat
@PictureFit8 жыл бұрын
Your body doesn't store protein, thus any unused will be either excreted or inefficiently turned into fat. You can figure your individual use of protein intake by measuring nitrogen balance. That is different from your body storing away calories in any form (fat, carbs, protein) outside of alcohol. Fact of the matter is that your body can and will store away as much of it as possible. There is no "hard limit" in the amount of food you eat where your body decides to stop trying to store. Protein uptake also depends on providing the proper stimulus to the body to use the additional protein in the first place (eg progressive resistance training). Competitive eaters eating at a huge excess one day does not mean they eat like that on every other day. They can very well be at a chronic deficit up until the competition.
@WorldChampInfinity8 жыл бұрын
Okay, you taught me something there about protein absorption. That's why I like your videos. But, I guess I shouldn't have used protein as the example. I didn't mean for us to get tripped up there. The point I am trying to make, but didn't do well the first time is, your body only has so much time to absorb. Your body is going to make you crap whether it got every calorie or not. It's on a schedule. There are going to be a lot of calories in the toilet bowl the day after a cheat day. I probably shouldn't have mentioned competitive eaters either. They probably use laxatives after a competition.
@firefoxuser25572 жыл бұрын
I'm on a low carb high fat diet with 0 "cheat" days because I don't have the desire to eat the unhealthy stuff I was eating just 1 month ago. It doesn't interest me as much as it used to, primarily because I provide enough fats and proteins for my stomach to be full all the time, but also not too much such that stored fat cannot be used.

The concept of cheat meals (I wouldn't really call it "cheating" though) motivates me even more to fight away those calories the next week. Keeps my metabolism guessing. Don't feel too guilty about having a Whopper or a pizza maybe once a month or two months...as long as you work to burn it.

Although counting calories is good, it is also important to observe where you are consuming those calories. Calories from healthy foods: good Calories from foods high in sugar or with minimal nutritional value: bad
@rlburton8 жыл бұрын
For overall health and energy, yes that's absolutely true, but for just weight loss it's calories in vs. calories out.
@GaryLiseo8 жыл бұрын
Correct, but you still want to make sure the calories you are taking in aren't things such as sugars which metabolize into fat while you are trying to lose weight
@rlburton8 жыл бұрын
Gary Liseo Jr Well, ALL foods can metabolize into fats. The problem with sugars is that they give you a brief very high energy spike, and then leave you with nothing, so you then have to have something else to make it through the day. So someone who has 400 calories of steamed chicken and rice will be feeling a lot better a few hours later than someone who had a 400 calorie snickers bar instead. Like a campfire. A whole log might give off an equal amount of heat as a handful of firecrackers, but the log will give off that heat slowly over hours, but the firecrackers are gone in seconds leaving you cold.

I do a cheat day every Saturday, I limit myself to 3000 calories, I can eat whatever I want, and it’s worked for me surprisingly well, I have lost so much weight and finally had my abdominals come in!

For me cheat days turn into cheat months then years. What I’ve done different this time is rather than avoiding the foods I love I incorporate them into my diet everyday, I just choose lower calorie and higher volume alternatives. I’m down 75lbs so far and still going strong. What’s best is I never feel deprived so this is something I can see myself doing for the rest of my life.

I just say 3000 calories on a cheat day, which is plenty. I did it last week and I ate both burger and fries, drank soda, some chocolate and a bit of candy and then a boatload of pizza in the evening. All that coming together at 2950 calories!!

5,000kcal in a day?!?! I eat that amount within 5 days! My cheat days ( more like cheat meals) only add 400kcal to my weekly calorie intake.
@jtal28995 жыл бұрын
Unrestrained cheat days ruin progress because when you cut, the increase in appetite can lead you to eat way above your maintenance calories if you aren’t careful. I’m a fan of calorie cycling. I like to do a higher deficit of 1000-1500 5 days a week, then have two days when I eat at, or slightly above my TDEE. Keeps me sane and leaves a comfortable amount of space for treats.

***** are you serious? I think the most I've ever eaten in a day is 3500. That was only one day though in my entire life that I can remember. If I eat more than what I need(about 2000), it's probably an average of 2500. I don't see how yall can go past an extra 1000 all the time. Damn no wonder yall are so fat. Quit eating so damn much. I know the food is good, but it's literally like drugs. It might taste good, but in the end, if you eat too much it can literally kill you. I was placed on steroids for a few months when I was I was only a child, was in the hospital every month due to epilepsy and couldn't exercise much because I had severe asthma. So I stayed inside being lazy and eating a lot. But now my asthma is well under control and I was cured from my epilepsy 6 years ago. Since then I've been far more active and don't eat much. I only eat when I'm hungry, usually only twice a day. I was obese and now I'm only slightly overweight and am still losing. I still feel self conscious about my weight though, maybe because I was like the most bullied person in school, mostly because of my weight. Trust me, you can lose some weight. Actually, the more overweight and sedentary you are, the easier it is. I've been through that journey, you can do it too. It just takes a whole lot of motivation. That's by far the hardest part of losing weight. I wish you luck. 😉
@Havo97.P.T.P8 жыл бұрын
you see.. i am not fat... far from it i would say...true though i used to have a gut,but that is no longer the case...although...my fat self will almost always be inside of me... i mean ..i can eat 5000 thousand calories of carb heavy crap and sweets and all that stuff...but also in the forms of clean food...say chicken breast ...sweet potatoes brown rice...lentils beans...lean meats....i rememember once i had eaten 3000 thousand calories worth of lentisls then proceeded to eat more lean meats and beans...totalling 5560 calories a day for that day....what you cant seeem to understan and i will help you with that is...we dont just like food because of the taste... we like because we are HUNGRY...not because we are addicted...BUT because we want to be satiated...human bodies were NEVER meant to have moderate food intake...they were meant to either FAST OR FEAST...which means that cheat days play that role in a diet which either has the goal of getttiing you lean or keeping you lean..

Also cheat foods are not high carb foods usually unless its soda which can easily be substituted with diet soda. Everything else from candy, chocolate, ice cream, potato chips, pizza to burgers is a high fat meal. Most of their calories come from fat. This is what irritates me about low carbers is that they don't know that most junkfood people love is high fat, just because it tastes sweet does not mean it is high carb.
@PictureFit8 жыл бұрын
Well, in many cases, they're much closer to equal macro proportion. I don't advocate for low-carb people, but their goal is to stay under 5-10% carb intake daily. One burger will quickly nullify that. And many of the junk food are also simple carbs, which are easily and quickly digested, amounting very little to satiety.
@zukodude4879878 жыл бұрын
PictureFit Gram wise its usually 50/50, but fat has more than twice the calories so it is usually fat that makes up 40-70% of the total calories. When people tell me they eat carbs the usually say ice cream or chocolate which is just fat with a bit of sweetness since most of the calories are fat calories.
@PictureFit8 жыл бұрын
Actually, gram-wise, carbs are higher, but as you know, fat/gram has more calories than carb/gram. When calculated, they are much closer to equal.
@PictureFit8 жыл бұрын
And of course, it's food-dependent. Some junk food do in fact sway more toward fat calories. Regardless, there's still a high amount of carbs in most.
@zukodude4879878 жыл бұрын
PictureFit Sure they have carbs as well, but it is primarily the fat calories in it and since fat is calorie dense which fills your stomach so little that you get hungry again quickly and of course over eat easily due to more calories per volume. Carbs are mainly bad in soda form or some gummy bears. Diet sodas have no carbs so you get the same thing minus the calories. Most of the calories come from fat i mean if carbs were to blame then the heart attack grill would be slimming since their burgers are pretty much fatty meat towers with cheese cooked in lard and even the fries are covered in lard, very fatty and fattening while the only carbs in it is the tiny bun.

Don't think of your diet as a bad thing. If you don't like what your eating now it's because your new to the diet. Keep looking at nutrition labels and see what else you can include in your meals. I'm never hungry and I enjoy all my meals and my calorie intake stays under 1500 everyday.

Im doing the Ketodiet where you have to do cheatdays. This Is giving me the motivation for the whole week of diet and training. The problem is that it can change your eating behavior though. When I was offdiet, I went completely nuts and ate everything I could like pizza, burgers, icecream, choclate and so on. It can destroy your mind and your beavior as I said. Now Im still doing cheatdays but I refeed it "clean". So for example I eat rice with chicken or something like that. Just to get the carbs I avoided on trainingdays. Sometimes I still eat a Pizza or a Burger but Im not carrying it to far anymore. So my opinion Is cheatdays are good, but still with discipline and the right knowledge

I'm not a fan of cheat days. You work hard all week to gain back all the calories and more by eating everything in sight. Then you spend all week trying to burn it off, to do the same cheat again on the weekend. It's a roller coaster.

I´m running a "Cheat Day Diet" for a few month now, and i already lost 25 kilograms.. (~55 lbs). Normally I eat healthy and low carb under the week, cut some calories, and on one of the weekend days I eat what I want. I´m not eating like a pig or so, just going out to a nice restaurant or eating fast food. The cheat day is helping a lot. My body won't get used to the low calories and i don't have appetite attacks. Sometimes I eat casually on all days of the weekend, I´m still loosing weight, or atleast don't gain some, even after some really naughty week (food-wise).

I’ve been on the diet for two months now, I shouldn’t really call it a diet because it’s more of a lifestyle, but the point is today I tried to have a cheat day, literally, I had maybe 10 potato chips, and a spit it out because it just felt wrong. I think eventually, after pursuing such a healthy lifestyle for a while, you realize all the wonderful benefits it has on your body, complexion, and overall health, to me it just felt absurd to throw that away.

I have cheat days, I eat as much as 10,000 Calories per cheat day every 10 days, I weigh in the 140’s looking lean, I started at 205 pounds now 140! And building muscle now. I agree with cheat day ALL OUT, fast the next day to deplete the carbs, Than workout the next day (24-48Hours fast) than eat your regular diet! Lost 27 the first month doing it like that just my advice 💪 to put out there!
@thecatladytm71723 жыл бұрын
I agree, I've started eating healthier and exercising more and I feel that not cutting the unhealthy stuff completely (just drastically reducing their presence to one meal on one day or a small treat after an intense workout) will ultimately allow me to stay on track with eating healthier because I won't feel like I've failed myself by eating them. I know I can do the work to burn it off the next day or had done a ton of work already, so as long as portions and frequency are restricted, I know I'm good to go. Throughout the week if I want a "treat" but it isn't my cheat meal or I haven't "earned" it, I grab some fruit. They have sugar, but they also have fiber and depending on the fruit usually have incredibly beneficial effects for your body. My favorite fruit is kiwi and I am low key craving like, a kiwi and strawberry fruit salad with some vanilla greek yogurt for breakfast, like, that sounds so good to me. But we currently do not have kiwi or strawberries, so apple and cucumber slices (which are also good, don't get me wrong) will have to do. Edit: my kindle is weird and autocorrected for no reason

Taking the calorie deficit example withing t Tim frame of a week provided in the video, a few corrections: Staying at a 500 calorie deficit while still maintaining a carbon intake ratio that is anything but negligible doesn't mean ur body loses 500 calories worth of fat per day for a week. Instead, body metabolism (again, if ur carbon intake is NOT negligible, i.e., ur body isn't in ketosis) simply slows down too. So now, ur.body is simply running quite efficiently on th 1500 Kcal u intake, without demanding the extra 500 Kcal from the fat. Even worse, once you in the future start eating 2000kcal, ur body still runs only on the 1500kcal, Du to metabolism slow down, which means ur putting on +500kcal worth it fat (if ur not working out to use up that Surplus kcal.) T only way to reset ur metabolism is to go on fasts particularly prolonged (>3 day fasts). I know, it's shit
