From what other vids I've seen Kevin is a funny, amazing, and sweet person. I love that he teaches so lovingly and that it shows with his snakes. His snakes are not afraid of him and they are his babies, they respect him and love him in their own way. Just so amazing to see. ❤

I love how he explains that while everyone at every skill level makes mistakes, everyone also is capable of learning how to interact with these lovely scale babies without freaking them out. Also Kevin clearly fosters a good work environment, since his employees are so willing to learn from mistakes and never get defensive or upset when things go awry.

Sometimes the main difference between a trained professional and an amateur is keeping the calm if things go south, so you have a chance to recover the situation. More professional is of course not to get into the situation, but as Kevin points out, mistakes happen, also to trained professionals (although less and likely less severe). And I bet the grip a snake of that size can have on you if she really means it is no joke.

I love these types of videos that you do that explain the snakes mentality and how to work with them and make sure there is respect all around. I've had a couple snakes come to me who were a bit unsure and defensive toward others, and I have worked with them and they are incredibly docile quiet animals now. It really boils down to reading the animal and giving it the respect it deserves.

EXCELLENT !! I've been waiting for you to cover this one Kevin and it was G's fault because he didn't watch the snake long enough to see how it was reacting to him before he reached for the snake !! A gentle calm laid back approach works wonders with big constrictors after you've canceled their feeding response and all of my snakes were raised hook trained to a point that I can use a newspaper or paper towel roll instead of using a hook and it gives the snakes the same message. Observation is definitely a BIG plus when approaching a big snake !! Awesome video Kevin and you did an excellent job of covering the specifics of this one !! :) Something so many people overlook is ANY snakes mindset can flip on a dime depending on how that snake is feeling at any certain time because they do have good days and not so good days !! Snakes are a LOT more alert and aware than many people give them credit for so redirecting a snakes attention away from you is a fantastic way to distract a snake so it's not keyed in on you :o)

1softkiss actually it’s because I wasn’t wearing my glasses. I couldn’t see anything just very cloudy ⛅️ . Partly my fault for going into that situation blind and then more so my fault trying to go through it feeling for things etc. my depth perception is so bad I didn’t notice how close the hook was when it was a foot away from me when I was wrapped so I panicked...because I couldn’t see what was happening😅 most people would have panicked and overreacted a lot sooner.

@@NewEnglandReptile OK hello Donny. I'm going to be a respectful as I can. I try to give words of encouragement as I feel it's who I am. But when one has a disability and I'm the helping hand. I am Mama bear. OK the comment above which I thank you for your efforts...but man what the fuck? The first video that you put closed captioning on... You put on the intro... You are welcome DEAF people..... Now you are passively saying it takes you along time and hope it's worth it. Com-mon man!

@@user-cc9iv6ps3x I have literally watched every NERD video including the archived ones. I just can't get enough, I know Kevin has said a lot of the handling videos about Asian water monitor techniques can be used for other monitors. I'd just love to see a long super in depth version with all of the info from various other videos.

Kevin, you’re the man! I’ve been watching your videos for awhile. I’ve been using your techniques with my very first retic for the past few months and it is paying off incredibly. I have about a 5ft Tiger Sunfire retic and she is amazing. I have her “trained” to know when it’s handling time or feeding time. When I come to her enclosure sometimes she is all over searching for food and giving me the signs. I tap on the top of the wood for 5 seconds before I handle her and she calms right down and totally chills out. I’ve done this since I got her and it really pays off. She will come right out and climb up me.
