Piece of meteorite that created boom over Utah gifted to University of Utah

With the boom caused by the meteor that streaked across northern Utah still ringing in the ears of residents, people are now getting their first look at the object that caused such an uproar.

@@lightfoot1Juke A gem hunter would have the proper wet saw. I found a small geode and used my neighbor's saw. Very cool how perfectly cut it was. And that was a half decent older saw. Still could be BS, but cutting would be the easy part for a hobbyist.

There was probably a large impact crater from where it ended up. He more than likely showed the University professors to confirm. Also if it were there for a long period of time it would most certainly have more weathering on its surface.

The key is how it was found. Something that just fell from the sky would probably not be buried, with no earth components covering it. Like if you threw a polished rock in the middle of a field it would look out of place.

Its age is suspect. The geologic clock we use has an estimated age for the time of its formation and is based on our concepts. But so much is just a guess.

The cam shots were incorrect? It's true he didn't give the exact location where he found the rock. However. he did mention finding the rock West of Salt Lake City near the Great Salt Lake.
