This was my very first video of you that I found. After watching this I was hooked! I overdosed on videos by you! They are wonderful. You are a great teacher and I realize you have been doing this all of your life, but I am thankful that you took the time to memorialize your knowledge that can be used by people for ages to come. Some people become teachers but they are useless at conveying their message to a classroom, lucky for us you are not one of those "teachers" who should have never started teaching in the first place. I don't know if you are still making videos, I saw a post that says it's been a few years. I hope that you and your hubby are still well. May God bless you and your family. Thank you for your gift to the quilting community, your information is timeless. :) You've made me smile today and I needed that badly.

Thank you for sharing these tips. It takes a lot of experience to compile tips on good craftsmanship. I've looked and looked for good videos on technique. There are plenty of quilt pattern videos, but they don't really teach you how to improve your quality of work.

Excellent It’s great to be reminded and go back to the basics Especially when I don’t spend enough time on my machine on a regular basis. I’m 51, and have been sewing since I was 7. My first big project when I was seven was a pullover hoodie my mom put on the front pocket but I did all the rest. My skills out seed my home-ec teacher in 7th grade. Because I was already doing machine appliqué and she insisted I sew on the pillow face felt by hand so she could grade it. I machine appliquéd it and it made her mad, my mom went to bat for me several times and I always ended up with an A. I remember making some clothes those two years of jr high and she didn’t believe my mom didn’t make my buttoned blouses and a jumpsuit. And a few other things without mom doing my sewing.... I did learn to make button holes. My mom also taught free motion machine embroidery to adult women and I had picked it up and made a a project that she was surprised I did it. I used to hover over my mom all the time, and would stay up late watching her sew along with watching late night tv. Now I have my own machine and have a daughter to teach. She has no fear of the machine. Thanks for your tutorial of basics

I like how you said "putting a name to it" justifies a technique. And when you talked about a slight mistake in joining seam "if you can't see it from a galloping horse" it's not a big deal - especially for a quilt that's to be used vs. for a competition. Your tip about just redoing a small section of a long seam to correct a connection if it was to be judged was also helpful. I enjoy your "slightly sassy" style of speaking and teaching :-) It's fun and enjoyable without being disrespectable in any way to your students. Thank you.

Nancy T. Very helpful Donna I had a mess on my hands sewing together pre cut strips my second quilt, I had to throw it away because I ironed and stretched the pieces before sewing them they came out wavy... I am going to try again after watching this tutorial...Thanks

I took it to mean that you sew one in one direction, and then the next in the opposite direction, and so on. I have heard others say they will sew a couple of rows, and then switch direction.

I also just started quilting. You are my go to teacher. I have a question about joining my rows of chevron. My horizontal row looks flat but when I sew it to the next row it seems to wave and pucker. It doesn't lay flat. What is my problem?

when you sew long strips together, and cut them into say a nine square, how do you keep them from coming undone at ends since you don't do any backstitching?
