Welcome to the third episode of my new show where I look at bad episodes of shows produced by Schneider's Bakery (iCarly, Sam and Cat, Victorious, Henry Danger and possibly Drake and Josh).
Today I take on an episode that bites off a little more than it can chew.

***** If you ask me, it's a lot cruder to use that as an insult than to refer to breasts literally, as any kid who knows what boobs are will think about the literal meaning of the insult. It's also arguably very demeaning towards women. But I guess Nick's censorship policies have been out of whack these past few years, just look at what SpongeBob's been able to get away with when other shows like Korra have to fight to get adult content past the censors.

At least with Squidward, he was a real jerk in the earlier episodes... Not in the new ones though, where he just gets bean on for no reason (Maybe they just expect you to know that he wasn't very nice a few seasons ago?). Whereas Freddy was a nice character who never did anything to deserve it. People getting hurt is funny only when they deserve it.

@@christheleavittman7080 Yeah, that's another exception, Henry is kind of bland and even a bit of a jerk too. I feel like Jasper would've been a better title character, he seems so much more outlandish and energetic, and does a lot of weird but goofy things as well. He's far more interesting than Henry to me. I could see a cool dynamic of Captain Man thinking Jasper was pretty annoying, but over time warming up and goofing off with him as well. I hate that episode, The Breakfast Club was basically all about breaking the stereotype/facade that people put up in school. The Breakfast Bunch had potential to dive into the characters in Victorious. But instead they kept them all two-dimensional which is a shame because Victorious has so many different characters that had potential to get deeper

You know what's funny? I feel like the iCarly episode "iQ" was their attempt at trying to mimic the Drake and Josh episode "Smart Girl". The only difference is that Drake and Josh did it a whole lot better. In "Smart Girl", Drake was the guy who was trying to impress the intelligent girl since he's not the most brightest one out there, but after explaining to Michelle what he was trying to do, she confessed to him that she liked him for who he was. She didn't care that he wasn't as smart as she was, but she still liked him. In "IQ", the roles are reversed in which this time, it's the girl who's trying to impress the guy since she isn't as smart as him, but Kyle flat out dumped Carly after she told him that she isn't as smart as he was. The fact that he told her earlier that if a girl is not intelligent like he is does not sit well with me. I am an honors student like Carly is and I'm a very nice person, but I'm not Harvard smart like Kyle is, and Carly clearly wasn't either. That just makes Kyle look like a really shallow person.
@JD-od6jh
@JD-od6jh 4 жыл бұрын
Late reply but to add to this; Not only was Kyle incredibly shallow he was extremely pretentious aswel. Spewing around fancy words just for the sake of sounding smart is about the most idiotic thing you can do. In my opinion iCarly ran for way too long, and clearly they were fresh out of ideas. Becoming more 4th wall breaking where that was never part of the humor in iCarly. Honestly, looking back as someome not meant to be the target audience, I only find myself enjoying Spencer just because Jerry Trainor is such an gifted slapstick comedy actor. I always felt like Trainor is like the Jim Carry of TV series.
@Lauren_210
@Lauren_210 4 жыл бұрын
JD Kyle’s intelligence was really over the top. That’s not how people talk. With how much anxiety Carly had over preparing for a date by studying another language, he definitely was not the right person for her. He seemed very closed off and someone that is not easy to open up to given how much of hard time she had trying to tell him the truth. While Carly herself has been shallow in the past or even after that episode, I honestly don’t get as to why he was so put off by her stunt as if she committed infidelity. Yes, being dishonest is bad, but Carly wasn’t a stupid person or dumb by any means. She was smart and does really well in school, but she knows how to properly socialize, has manners, and communicates like a real person does. Also, what does Kyle constitute as “intelligence” in a girl, let alone in a person? The reason why the same premise worked so much better in the Drake and Josh episode was because Michelle was a more believable intelligent character. She was not shallow to Drake and did not have super high, anxiety inducing expectations for Drake, and she was so much more likable and what you want to see in a person you like. It’s great that she forgave Drake for his stunt with the academic bowl and told him that she liked him for who he was as an individual, which is a good way of teaching kids to be themselves. Her intelligence wasn’t so over the top. Sure she mentioned things like “Talk about your Pavlovian nightmares” (which I actually get now given that I majored in psychology in college 😂), but she still spoke and asked questions like a person would in everyday life and was really nice. She only talked intelligently for the first 5 minutes of the episode and then spoke normal for the rest of it (and her intelligent dialogue in the first scene at the movie theater wasn’t that difficult to understand).

I personally think the fire department giving up on him would've been a funny one-off gag as a follow-up to the fact that he's always causing fires - I see it as the RIGHT kind of dark humor for a show like this, the fire department giving up on someone due to their incompetence. However, the fact that it becomes violent and it's basically the entire plot of that portion of the episode is really stupid and ruins any kind of potential it could have had.

Things I liked about this episode: - Gibby’s plot was actually kinda funny to me. I enjoyed seeing the worker go progressively more insane every time Gibby didn’t want a case. I actually laughed out loud when he said “yeah but does it scream GIBBEH!” and the worker replied “I DON’T EVEN KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS!” or whatever. Although there is one negative about the Gibby plot I’ll point out later. - Spencer beating the dude who was trying to molest Carly was actually really satisfying to see. I love moments where Spencer shows that he truly cares about his sister. Things I didn’t like: - Boob jokes? Really? Thankfully it was just the one scene but still. Cringe af. - Freddie torture. Why is it that this show loves to throw Freddie under the bus? Seriously, he’s literally written to be the laughing stock of the group for no reason. And now that he finally has a job he loves Sam just has to ruin it for him to spite him. Given that she quits as soon as he’s fired I interpreted that as she only got that job to either get him to quit or continue to torment him at work. - Fire department is out of line here. You pretty much echoed all of my complaints about that so I’ll just leave it there. - The problem with the Gibby plot is that in my opinion, it works very well as a sketch on a show like SNL or something. A show where there is no real plot except for some comedy sketches. But to be a subplot of an episode with no resolution other than the dude having a breakdown when Gibby has no money just does not work. It takes away from the actual plot of the episode. In my mind the episode could have been better if it only had two plots. Freddie’s job at the Pear Store and Spencer as a firefighter. That could have given more time for motivation explanations for Sam and more time for fire department hijinks with Spencer. Maybe have him have some misadventures actually going to fire scenes and eventually realizing “wow. This job isn’t as easy as I think it is. Maybe I should be more careful and not cause so many fires.” The Pear Store plot would still probably suck but at least one would be good

Oooooh! Yeah, now I remember it! Yeah, that was weird. I always thought there really was a scene missing there because it just...ends. That whole scene didn't even make much sense; it was like the writers were trying to make it comedic because it's a sitcom, but the scene was supposed to more serious, but they didn't want to answer any questions about the kiss to, I guess, leave you hanging...I don't know. It was like a mashup of way too many tones.

I nominate "The Birthweek Song" from the show Victorious. Spoilers below! ...screw it, the episode sucks anyway. Tori's sister is a pretentious douchebag. She celebrates the week her birthday is on. Why? She feels she's too special to get as much celebration as everyone else and wants more. Tori makes up an entire song for her birthday present, and she doesn't accept it because it's not physical. Wow, what a butt. She then sells the rights to the song and even claims that she was the singer. And near the end when the purchaser finds out who did sing it... well I forget what the end was, I haven't seen the episode in like a year. But it's awful, trust me.

This episode sums up every single thing wrong with modern Nick. - Mistaking cruelty and stupidity that borders brain damage (what's a beverage?) for comedy - Torturing the most sympathetic character to extreme ends - Erasing any rational thought and common sense in order to make jokes and give the Megward of the week more torment - Making the most annoying/sadistic character the winner even when they do nothing to earn it - Throwing in filler to try and mask the lack of a story (Gibby plot should not be in) - Side characters that exist for no other reason than to torture or be tortured

Wait a minute, when you have 4 plots together, aren't you supposed to tie them all together at the end? This reminds me of this Futurama episode where everyone got 300 bucks and there were multiple plots in the episode...except in the end they all met together and enjoyed a meal, so everything sort of got tied in together. Here, nothing was tied together, and having multiple plots and one location doesn't seem to count to me.

I noticed how much the later seasons of iCarly (more particular seasons 4 and 5) basically have nothing to due with the webshow. I mean in the newer iCarly episodes the show was more about the characters either doing random things, or their personal lives. So really what was the point of having the main premise of the show, just to ditch it after a while? I mean seasons 4 and 5 really just shoehorned in the webcast at the beginning of an episode, only to not talk about it again. The webcast in those seasons just felt forced in or rushed just for the sake of getting another plot in, they felt so much in the background that it basically wasn't related to anything. Not to mention it just felt there just to say "oh yeah it's about a webshow right?" It also doesn't help that most of their web content were just reused from previous skits they already done. Like the cowboy and the idiot farm girl skit. Not to mention a lot of the later episodes are boring. Outside of iStill Psycho and a couple of others. I also hate how bad Carly got in the later seasons too. Sure in the first two seasons she was a bit bratty when it came to Spencer having his rare moments of being a assertive parental figure, but she still was okay. I only ever remember her being shallow once or twice. (mostly infamously iDate a Bad Boy) But after season 2, she grew and unlikable personality. She was pretty much shallow in just about every episode and her nice nature seemed either more of a facade. Like times when she didn't agree with someone's actions she'd just snap in a very mean-spirited way. It's part of the reason iShock American was so bad, Carly, Sam and Freddie go way to far with their criticisms toward Gibby. Or how overemphasized her girly nature is used. In the end Freddie and Gibby ended up being the only likable characters left on the show. Freddie was relatable and was a genuinely nice person Freddie also just has the most interesting traits to me. He was only bad in the Seddie arc, which was awful! Gibby may have turned stupid once he was a main character in comparison to earlier episodes where he was more weird than stupid. He was actually kind of smart. But despite that change he had more character other than being known as that kid who walks around shirtless.

I once again nominate ISaved Your Life for two reasons: 1. It's the episode where Mrs. Benson starts to hate Carly. Oh yeah she hates her just because SHE WAS WALKING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET AND FREDDIE PUSHED HER OUT OF THE WAY JUST SO CARLY WOULDN'T GET HIT BY A MEXICAN FOOD TRUCK. (IT'S LIKE SHE THINKS CARLY WAS WALKING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET ON PURPOSE JUST SO FREDDIE COULD GET INJURED.) I also hate how she has NO CONSENT for how Carly feels sorry for what had happened. it's like she's thinking "Oh she's feeling sorry... I shouldn't care". 2. THIS AND SEVERAL EPISODES BEFORE IT ARE THE REASONS THE SEDDIE STORYLINE SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED!!! ...Wait a minute I just thought of something else. DID MRS. BENSON WANT CARLY TO GET INJURED OR POSSIBLY MAIMED?!?!?!?! Yeah Mrs Benson, Carly really DESERVES the mistreatment you give her.

Perhaps you're right, It's just I hate how Carly is treated horribly when she literally did nothing wrong. (yes she was walking in the middle of the street, but didn't Sam say it was because of another reason why she did that? So Mrs. Benson is completely wrong to judge Carly.)

I'm starting to realize that a lot of Dan Schneider's later shows have, well, endings that feel lame or just unfinished. Even a lame ending is better than one that feels unresolved completely. A lot of these suggestions I'm hearing in the comments sound great for this kind of review show Pieguy is doing, although I feel like there should be a clear distinction between Schneider's Bakery episodes that are considered 'bad' for being repetitive, cliche, unfinished, boring or insulting to the audience, and between episodes that actually present a bad moral, a botched moral, or an unrealistic scenario to kids or preteens to take away. For example, you could say that iPear Store is rant worthy just because it's clearly all over the place and uses unfunny running gags to make up the entire episode. However, that little bit Pieguy pointed out about Carly's downplayed almost sexual assault is bad only depending on how you look at it: If they're trying to tell girls in a gentle way to not be stupid, to, oh--NOT BE LIKE CARLY--and not bring strange boys up into their rooms on a first date, then that would work! THAT would be a worthy take away lesson! Alas, Carly is our never-wrong main character who since the 2nd season seems to be played up to be like a freaking innocent little angel or something, and as such, it sounds like they play this scene up for laughs. I think Schneider's shows wouldn't be so insulting if they didn't treat everything like a joke, especially in iCarly, which confuses when things should be dramatic and when they should be funny all the time.

I think Victorious is much worse than iCarly and they are guilty of having these type of tropes in their episodes all the time. For example, in Tori Gets Stuck, Jade tries her best to get Tori to miss the play at school and what does she do to get revenge on her? She seeks into her medical records so that she ends up sending her flowers that she's allergic to (in which she does it knowingly). Jade just committed assault on Tori. Then, she goes to the hospital with Tori to visit Robbie before his operation and he needs blood for the surgery. The doctor just takes Jade's word that Tori has the blood she can donate for Robbie's procedure and addresses that she did look through her medical records. Jade sneaks by the doctor and places Tori's first pint of blood onto the food tray so that it's lost. Tori ended up having to donate the second pint, but Robbie drops it accidentally. She returns back to the play, but she's not feeling good due to her donating a third pint for Robbie. Jade gets NO kind of consequence for what she started and gets off the hook! What a bitch Jade is to Tori. >.

Lauren210 Wow, I wasn't actually expecting Victorious to have such intricate plots. O_O Even so, that is... pretty awful. Straight up. Not even just morally bad, that's just pitiful writing. That's the kind of writing I'd expect to see in a modern Nicktoon. Sorry, I kinda gave up on Victorious after I saw the promos. iCarly had a decent first season but started to fall quickly after that, but Victorious looked like it was trying wayyyy to hard to be the next Hannah Montana, and if were that obvious, then it's a failure from first concept.

kartoonfanatic I like Carly for its first three seasons, but I found the other three seasons to be uninteresting. Season four was meh, but seasons five and six were boring. The series finale was nice though and it did make me cry. I hate how there's no justification as to why Jade hates Tori so much. I don't understand what Tori has done to make Jade hate her with such a passion as to where she has tried to harm her on several occasions. In the first episode, Tori spilled coffee on Beck accidentally and Jade got back at her by spilling coffee on her head during class on her first day. The next day, she got back at Jade by kissing Beck during an acting scene. Ever since, Tori has not done anything to mess up Beck and Jade's relationship nor has done anything to Jade. Tori is nice to her friends and tries to help them when they need her, but Jade still hates her. Tori, Andre, and Beck were the only characters I pretty much liked in the show since they were tolerable. I'm a girl, yet I found the guys much more likable than the girls, which is pretty annoying. The other three female leads were unlikeable. -_-

Lauren210 Understandable, on both major points. I can't judge the male characters too well, though I can't say the serve as good role models. However I can say that most female leads I'm seeing on Nick nowadays are either excessively dim witted or cruel.

This show really did derail from the original premise. When it was first being advertised the viewers were told that it would be the first interactive show that wasn't a gameshow. Viewers could submit their own videos to the iCarly website and if they were deemed good enough they would be featured in an episode. They even had an episode called "iCarly Awards" to celebrate the best of the clips of the web show that viewers sent in. By the third or 4th season the show was less and less about the web show and more about the relationships between the characters and Spencer's stupidity. When they did talk about the web show it was to underscore the fact that these are teenagers who are famous all over the web and they can wield their influence to do or say anything to anyone. For example, they use the web show to out a guy who was dating both Carly and Tori (iParty With Victorious) as a total douche. Also they used the web show to publicly apologize for Gibby's wardrobe malfunction (iShock America). While I did like the show up until Sam and Freddie got together, which IMO is holly disappointing since I was shipping them from bout the middle of the second season, I think the show really missed the mark in more ways than one towards the end of its run and at least it went out on a high note ratings wise and wasn't just abruptly cancelled like Victorious or Sam and Cat was. Also I am looking forward to the day when you actually do a video discussing Sam and Freddie's relationship in depth. I was all for it until the episode in which Sam finally admits she has a crush on Freddie. I felt that moment was extremely forced and not in keeping with the kind of person we all knew Sam to be up to that point. I do however, like that she immediately checked herself into a mental hospital because that was the only way she could explain her feelings (it didn't hurt things any that there was an amazingly funny guest appearance from Jim Parsons as well). Everything that happened from the time Sam checked herself out of the mental hospital to the time that she and Freddie decided to break up seemed really unrealistic. They were kind of sort of friends before they dated, but going from more like enemies to a couple without pure and genuine friendship in between (with the exception of one or two times) just doesn't make sense. Then once they do break up, other than one or two mentions by Sam that Freddie is her ex, they continue on with the series as if they had never been a couple in the first place. I would have liked more of a Big Bang Theory style post breakup episode (in that episode Penny and Leonard are trying to keep things civil for Sheldon's sake since he is friends with both of them but in the end they treat him like he's their child and he's caught in the middle of his parent's divorce) where Sam and Freddie can't decide either one of them should leave iCarly because it would be too awkward for both of them to still be on the show. This would put Carly and Gibby in the middle and they would have to choose sides as to who they agree with more. One would pick Freddie and the other would pick Sam and a big fight would erupt with the outcome being that the show needed to take a brief (several episode) break until Sam and Freddie can sort out their feelings. In the end things would be back to normal but not until Sam and Freddie have a serious heart to heart and come to a conclusion that works for everyone. The way it was actually done was horrible and in an ideal world former couples would be able to do exactly the same things and be around each other the exact same amount of time without all of the romantic stuff getting in the way. It just doesn't work like that and I would have liked to see more emotion from both of them regarding the end of their relationship than what we got.

Two constantly reoccurring problems I had with iCarly was A) Freddie getting tormented physically, mentally, and/or emotionally, and B) Sam being horrible and/or intolerable to the point where she becomes a blank check to do whatever, she is never subject to consequence, and just not making sense. So if you can imagine, episodes like this and iMeet Fred are among my most hated episodes of the entire show when BOTH of these problems are the main premise.

I would like to request u do the episode of Sam and Cat "The Killer Tuna Jump" (I don't know if that was the actual name). Back when that aired, I still kinda liked S&C, but this was where I believe it got bad. The main problem with this episode was Cat. At first, she gets jealous because Sam made friends with Jade, so, in order to make Sam jealous, she phones up Freddy and says that Sam got injured. Freddy comes because he's worried, but then Cat starts flurting with him, and they spend the day together. Sam finds out, gets angry, and then she gets Robby, Cat gets pissed, even though she did the exact same thing, and for the next part Cat just acts like a spoiled brat and Sam acts like a rage-a-holic. Cat locked Sam in the cupboard because she was going to jump over deadly tuna, and Cat goes in her place. It ends on one of the most infuriating endings, as Freddy and Robby end up in hospital, while Sam & Scat get off scott-free. I hate how the guys who were just being used by the girls to make each other jealous got injured at the end, even though I dislike Robby, yet the two who were being immature bitches don't suffer any consequences. Especially Cat. Sam could be excused since she obviously had no idea that Cat would be upset about it, being the bully she is, but Cat was the one in the wrong, especially by telling one of Sam's friends that she was injured in a car accident. When the advertisement keeps having Sam saying "I'm the mean one", the later episodes change my mind on that. Who would you pick, the stereotypical teenager who's kind of a bully, or the whiny bitch who whines and complains whenever something doesn't go her way. Exactly.

This episode was terrible, but here's the really sad part: IT DIDN'T HAVE TO BE. Remove the 3 sub-plots, put more focus into the main plot about Freddie, have Sam show remorse for her actions, and have a positive play out in the end. Heck, they could've even did a little resurrection of Seddie in this episode, and it would've worked. The one episode I wouldn't have minded seeing a Seddie moment, they refused to put one in. The Bizzaro Bakery alternate to this episode did it perfectly.

This episode actually sums up why I started disliking this show. The whole concept of the show (with them doing a webshow every week) seems to have been forgotten about after a couple seasons. It's almost like the writers got so caught up in the main characters' drama, and then they remembered the webshow and tied that in slightly by having the characters discuss ideas for it at some point.

I feel that if she had gotten together with Brad (giving her a serious relationship this time instead of the one she had way back in season 1), it may been better and given her some character development to become a better person and to stop being mean or sarcastic all the time to people. Well, if you do Drake and Josh, what episode would even come to mind as bad? The only episode I didn't like was Peruvian Puff Pepper, but even that had some legitimately funny moments in it. Other than that, I can't think of any bad Drake & Josh episodes.

I honestly think that was a really solid show, probably the last good thing Schneider ever produced.

I agree almost completely except the theater thug I like the first half but the second half is very repetitive and I believe the ending is bad for josh to which is stupid but other than that I binge watch the show every other month

***** On the contrary, Blaze had a good reason to think Drake and Josh were criminals, having found them handcuffed in the back of a police car, and later in the episode the other criminals started questioning whether or not they were real criminals.

The thing that most people have to know going into any Dan Schneider show is that he will never use actual product names or TV shows or movies. They will sound A LOT like things that exist in the real world (i.e. Pear products, Moca Cola, Wahoo Punch, Build a Bra store, etc.) but either it costs too much for him and his team to get the rights to put the actual products in the shows or they are just too lazy. It was cool and interesting at the beginning like in Drake and Josh and Zoey101 but by the time you get to iCarly and Victorious the "joke" starts to wear thin. There seems to be only like two people who are mentioned by name repeatedly in his shows that are from real life and they are Ryan Seacrest and David Schwimmer, for some unknown reason. The only time that other real life people will be mentioned on a show is because they are making a guest appearance in the episode (Gary Coleman, Plain White T's, Jimmy Fallon, Perez Hilton, just to name a few). This particular episode of iCarly really wears the whole Pear products thing quite thin and by the end of the episode I'm wishing these pear products would just go away. Now I'm not sure if Pear products are used with any regularity in the newer Schneider shows Henry Danger or Game Shakers, but I'm guessing they might be.

FrozenUSA this show has an unhealthy obsession of bringing up Ryan Seacrest and I've hardly heard of the guy.

Pigs don't sweat. In fact, the reason they roll in mud is actually because it cools them off, which is what sweat does for humans. Mud is also a natural sunscreen, which is good, because they burn easily as well. The more you know.

There's an episode of Henry Danger that also has multiple plots that don't really have to do with the show, called "The Secret Gets Out". It's made even more painful by the fact one of the plots dates the show in the early 2010s and is never mentioned again. Ugh.
