Why were they unable to commit to the original 14 episode order anyway? They clearly had a lot of time to work on them all, and it's not like the show looks that expensive or complicated to produce, since the animation is kind of stilted and they predominantly rely on one voice actor. It just really baffles me, because the worst thing about the show to me is that we get too little too infrequently.

Because Dan harmon wants to do 14 episodes when he feels like that they deserve it
@toon4thought7 жыл бұрын
It definitely deserves a lot more than 10 eps every year. You'd think Adult Swim would be more than happy to put more of their resources into it, thus giving it more full season orders.
@animalinstinct68867 жыл бұрын
Dan Harmon said his perfectionism got in the way and it was taking too long to produce episodes. Originally, he was hoping that season three would come out in 2016 but they ended up being behind schedule because of creative differences. That's why Summer has that meta line at the end of "Morty's Mind Blowers" about Rick and Morty always fighting and behind schedule. But they're giving the 14-episode order another shot in season four.

@AwesomeLaggy7 жыл бұрын
Season 3 was actually supposed to have 14 episodes! People say the ricklantis mixup would have made a way way better finale! And the reason they did not add additional episodes was because of pressure from Dan harmon or something like that. I think it said that since Rick and Morty has become such a huge show he is afraid of disappointing fans.
@toon4thought7 жыл бұрын
Well, even then, he's clearly disappointed a good chunk of them. But I guess that's more or less a foregone conclusion for any show this popular. Anyway, I really do feel like we get too few episodes too infrequently, and I'll never understand why. The show doesn't look terribly expensive to produce, they had 20 or so months to work with, and the show is popular enough that you'd think Adult Swim would be more than happy to put more of their resources into it. But yeah, it's a real shame that an otherwise really good season had to end on such a lackluster note.

I agree 100%. Third season was AMAZING in many respects (I don't understand when people say the show is getting worse) but they dropped the ball big time with the order of the episodes. Why they didn't end with Tales of the Citadel is beyond me - instead they offer one of the weakest episodes of the season to close. About the family returning to their safe status quo... It sucks, but I saw it coming (just like you did). I wish the show was more character focused instead of wacky shananigans, but they made their choice ($???). I still love this show, but season 3 left me with a feeling of dissapointment, especially considering the real potential the show has.
@toon4thought7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the season finale was honestly my least favorite episode of the season. And this really sucks because it's the last we will see of this show for a good two years. Why do we only get 10 eps every two years anyway? The show doesn't look that complicated or expensive to produce, and you'd think Adult Swim would be more than happy to put more resources into a show that is clearly really popular.
@angelsartandgaming7 жыл бұрын
I am very mixed on the Third Season. Don't get me wrong, I liked it, but there was a lot I didn't like about it too. I REALLY did not like the Vindicators episode. Though I couldn't explain why (though one video talking about Harmon's circle of storytelling and the Vindicators actually summed up my thoughts well). And I was really disappointed in this Season Finale too. I mean, I was not expecting something grand and epic like the Weirdmageddon Trilogy from Gravity Falls or emotionally heartrending like Bubbled from Steven Universe, heck I didn't expect them to make a Wedding Squanchers 2!! But I did expect something. I would have been satisfied with a stinger like revealing that Beth was a clone after all and the real Beth leaves with either a "Good Riddance" or a mixed bag of emotions, debating if she wants to leave but maybe does anyways. I agree, they could have done so much more!! What's worse is the more I think about it, the more you're correct. Rick was too overpowered and while I like the idea of a simple mind vs Rick a more sophisticated mind, why the president? Why not have the whole thing be Beth vs Rick or Jerry vs Rick where, as my friend Emma described it, Jerry seems to be the Morty to Beth's Rick. And that could be where Morty draws the line because there's so much conflict that Rick brings to his own family and he's sick of it. We see Morty become this overprotective brother to Summer and we see how he dealt with the divorce. That could have been the big driving point. Here's how I would have done it. Rick does face the president. He gets rid of the alien thing and Rick tells that he honestly wants to just hang out with Morty and not have to deal with the chores that the president gives. The president is reluctant but agrees.. However, maybe the twist is that ever since Get Schwifty, he is in league with the New Galactic Federation and President Evil Morty. He tells that they can't attack yet. Though this should only be brought up at the end of the episode. And it's maybe hinted subtly throughout the episode that the president will turn on them. The rest of the episode is about Rick bonding with Morty over Minecraft (which was honestly my favorite part of the entire episode. I thought it was really sweet they were bonding over a game Rick thought was stupid at first until he started playing). Beth, confused if she is a clone because she just doesn't feel right, goes back to Jerry. They start talking like in the actual episode, but they hang out and are friends. Not back together, friends. Jerry tells about how he dated an alien huntress and the Whirly Dirly things (though he doesn't tell he wanted to kill Rick as not to get on Beth's bad side) and Beth tells about Froopyland and how she turned into this gigantic muscular mass to help Summer. They both laugh it off as wacky adventures. Maybe they both start to envy Rick and Morty's lives as these intergalactic travelers. Then it's Beth, not Jerry, that suggests they should steal the portal gun and just go on one "Rick and Morty" adventure. Back with Rick and Morty, Rick gets the feeling they're being watched by the government. Yet he ignores it and even shouts at a spy cam that he knows they're there and watching. Rick tells him to go away. Morty is just angry that the rare times he actually gets to hang out normally with Rick is being ruined so Morty is the one who suggests that they do something about it, not Rick this time. Rick just gives off a whole "Eh, why not." attitude. Back with Beth and Jerry, Beth takes the portal gun, but as soon as Beth holds it, Rick comes in with Morty and asks what she is doing. Beth is the one threatening that she and Jerry are going to leave. She is standing up to him, and the two get into a heavy fight which causes Morty to snap. He calls out Rick that he's tired of all this family drama. He wants it to end. Rick decides but then says for Beth to leave, all of them to leave. He claims he didn't need them because they're infinite realities of them. He takes his portal gun and leaves. Then it cuts to the President saying to Tammy and or the new President that he knows where Rick went. But they should go after Morty instead. He's not with Rick anymore Cue credits and Post Credit thing with Mr. Poopybutthole. At least that's how I would have done it. TL;DR, I was just disappointed in this episode.

I found season 3 to be kinda lukewarm throughout. There's no episode I'd consider bad, heck some of them were great, but there's not any that I feel have very interesting ideas. There's no new concepts that are as interesting as the flashback parasites or interdimensional cable. Speaking as someone who was sold on the show just by hearing there was an episode where Rick dates a hive mind, those kind of concepts are why I'm watching. ABCs of Beth came the closest to hitting that mark for me, but it still didn't grip me as much as those other episodes.

Like Gravity Falls because they built so many mysteries in the first episodes they had to spend this season trying to solve them. Funny part is there's still some left. Like, what happened to Rick's wife? In episode were he was strapped to that dream machine and he showed the spy a memory of him and his wife was that a real memory? Or was that something he fabricated to throw him off? Was Rick even married at all? Did he just clone Beth from his DNA and simply put false memories of a mother in her brain to help her cope with life? So many question and yet they chose not to bother with them and focus on some halved ass one sided conflict.

You forget the season was supposed to be 14 episodes, and the 14th would’ve been rick Vs Tammy/ Phoenix Person. However they needed to bring the season out instead of going on for two years without any episodes so they made the tenth episode the season finale and saving episodes 11-14 for season 4. So the question is what’s worse, waiting even more time for more episodes or ending the season with this episode.

While I didn't hate this episode, I was completely disappointed with it as the season finale. I personally loved this season and the developments it made, so to see everything just thrown out the window here felt pretty insulting. The Ricklantis Mixup would have made a MUCH better finale, and switching the episode order would have changed nothing continuity wise (why they didn't do that is beyond me). I just hope the nest season's better. On a sidenote, what does everyone think of the comics? I'd love to see those talked about more.
@RandomPerson-gt1jt6 жыл бұрын
I really wish that Beth and Jerry hadn't gotten back together in the finale. I just felt like the divorce arc offered so much more potential, and they never really did anything with it. It would be a great way to finally develop Beth and Jerry and improve their relationship as well as show the affects of divorce on Morty and Summer. Unlike many, I actually liked S3 E2. It sort of picked up where E1 left off and made me feel like the divorce plotline was going somewhere. But after that they basically never touch on it again. Many of the subsequent episodes, while great, didn't even have a B plot to push this plot forward, and most of the B plots never really did anything with the divorce. Even when they try to revisit the subject, like when Jerry got an alien girlfriend, it ended up being just another chance to rag on Jerry and show how weak he is without developing his character. In the end, the divorce arc never felt like it amounted to anything. If the season as a whole wasn't really affected by the divorce, and everything went right back to the way it was at the end, then it mades me wonder, what was the point of them divorcing at all? This frustrates me the most because it is such an interesting concept that ended up being completely wasted. If they ever want to go back to this concept and they have a bunch of new ideas for it, they can't, because having them divorce again would feel like a cop out and would remove the shock and tension that it had the first time. I understand the parallel of having the season start out with them divorced and Rick at the top of the family food chain, then ending with them back together and Rick at the bottom with no power, but in the grand scheme of things nothing really changed in this season, Rick and Morty went on wacky adventures like always. I'd rather have them wait until the end of season 4 to do this parallel so it can actually feel meaningful. In the end I think that the team felt pressured because they spent way too much time on other episodes to be able to do the 14 episodes that they wanted, and with the season 2 finale being so big and important everyone had big expectations. They even said behind the scenes that they tried to "finale-ize" it, which is why the president storyline and the B story feel slapped together. I actually think that the ricklantis mixup would have been a better finale, though I guess it would have came as less of a suprize if that were the case. Still I wish that they could have taken their time more and maybe done a mid season hiatus of something so they could make it what they originally planned. Sadly his ended up being one of the weakest episodes that really makes the whole season feel weak even though it consisted of mostly strong episodes.

The ABCs of Beth was the worst episode for me, they just repeat the same disgusting jokes over and over, Rick and Beth's time in Froopy Land would of been the perfect time to develop them both as characters, atleast their relationship together. Like cut out all that stupid canabalism nonsense and imagine they got stuck in Froopy Land. They could take a tour together and see all the things Beth used to visit, maybe the first time Rick became a Alcoholic it scared her so bad she went to Froopy Land and while they were on tour, she remembered that time and that place and they could have a genuine heart to heart about it. Honestly the show's weakest aspect is Beth, she's not funny, she adds nothing and if you take her out, the quality of the show would improve. I know what I said above was very Beth centric but I just want her to do something, but Rick "knows he's a bad father" and "there's a million versions of her anyways so who cares." Beth is such a waste she having her take up most of the season finale was a mistake.

I was so happy when she finally divorced Jerry because I thought that we would finally get to see her move forward and and improve herself. I wanted her to come to the realization of how fucked up of a person Rick was and how it negatively affected her and his impact on the kids. Then she decides that the best thing for her and the kids to to push Rick away and move on to find a new partner who will be a better role model for Morty and Summer, and maybe strive to achieve her dream of being a human doctor. Maybe even reckoned with her mom, assuming she’s still alive. Instead the show did nothing with her character except turn in her into girl Rick and she crawled back to the man who Rick claims ruined her life like a lost puppy.

I feel like the point of the episode was to show how much more powerful then the president Rick was. The entire time Rick is just dancing around the supposed "most powerful man in the world" who is helpless to Rick. It's not necessarily the most entertaining conflict, but it just shows what an unstoppable force he is. He's almost at the point of being an antihero.
@halfdemonprince7 жыл бұрын
But we already know that which was why a lot of people hated it. Rick being an unstoppable force was already established in the episodes Vindicators 3, The Rickshank Rickdemption, M. Night Shaym-Aliens, Something Ricked This Way Comes, and The Ricks Must Be Crazy. So the fact that they reminded us again just feels redundant. Plus it was boring because we knew he would win.

I don't understand the hate for the third season of this show. I think all of the seasons were 10/10, best adult cartoon ever. Long live Rick and Morty!!!
@dublinjake7 жыл бұрын
I think the episode makes much more sense in concept than it does in execution. In theory, we see Rick finally go too far and through his own pettiness throw away all the gains he made in the Rickshank Rickdemption. Even the idea of the President turning on Rick after loving him so much kind of fits with this theme. He's forced to surrender to the US president - who, as you mentioned, is no where near Rick's level - because Jerry reenters the family. He is forced to surrender because of *Jerry*. Admittedly, the President was putting up a better fight than anyone could have expected and almost had him on several occassions, further highlighting Rick's hubris, but *Jerry* is the one who forced him to yield. That is in theory the ultimate humiliation for Rick. I also think the idea of Morty turning on Rick simply because things are getting too stupid for him to care anymore is fitting. However, they really failed to build properly to it. The President should have been featured in at least one more episode before this one in order to establish he and Rick's similarity, though I hope he comes back again in future. I really enjoyed him in this episode and thought the humour surrounding his petty bitterness was one of the most entertaining aspects of the episode. Similarly, I feel like Beth's conclusion here was really rushed. And the moments I mentioned as being in concept really powerful and dramatically fitting felt brushed over. I also thought a few of the jokes were pretty weak here - like the recurring Minecraft gag. However, I hope they build on a few of the ideas in this episode, like Jerry having humiliated Rick.
@pikminman137 жыл бұрын
The B plot in this episode annoys me. You can't spend less than one episode to fix a relationship. This should have started halfway through the season. Also, as a side note, I do like this season overall less than the first two. It isn't bad, but it isn't good either, at least I feel so. The beginning was fantastic. I loved the first episode. I thought the other ones had good parts as long as you ignore anything memey. Personally, if Pickle Rick wasn't as memey, I think more people would like it. I loved the adventure Rick went on in that episode and the situation he was stuck in trying to survive. The show has three main parts: the comedy, the sci-fi action, and the story related things. It had all three of those. But the memeing ruined it.
@toon4thought7 жыл бұрын
I unironically enjoy Pickle Rick, because I always feel memes (no matter how cringey) shouldn't ruin the actual experience. It's such an absurd and stupid concept for the show that it's hard not to be engaged by it, and they do everything they could with this possibility. Plus, they do throw in a good character study near the end.

The way I personally see it, while I would have liked Beth and Jerry to be apart for a longer time, the way they got back together was pretty good. I think Beth and Jerry needed some time apart to think about themselves as people. They needed that time to change as people. Jerry showed signs of stepping out of being this sniveling and cowardly character, and Beth realized that she’s more like her father than she’d like to think. By changing as people, Beth was able to feel love for Jerry and possible see him as an equal. There’s also the nice little touch that Jerry gaining confidence to kiss Beth is what started their relationship in the first place and it’s what gets them back together again. It's just a funny episode to end the season. The president liked Rick and Morty in the beginning then they lied to him so he changed how he felt. So he tried to become independent from them.

I can hardly believe how much they took the ending for granite.

I somewhat disagree; while I do agree that this was a poor finale for the long-awaited Season 3, simply because of how anticlimactic it was and how it felt more like a filler rather than anything plot related - but then that's this season in general. But I do think that the conclusion of the B-Plot was actually something that was established throughout the season. And it goes back to the Therapy Session of Pickle Rick... The idea deals with why Beth and Jerry stayed together for as long as they did; they got together because of an accident, but they stayed together due to security. Pickle Rick and Rickmancing the Stone established that Beth is now facing a divide with her family; she needs her father in her life, and feels like she doesn't need Jerry because he's so pathetic and gives her nothing. However, since she got rid of Jerry and gave Rick more power over the family, she's realizing just how pathetic and superfluous SHE is. Her father has completely taken control over the Family, that her children don't need her around for anything anymore; and worse, they don't even WANT her around... The scene from Rickmancing - where Robot Morty gains sapience just to lose it - that scene is important, because for a brief moment, Beth realized what she was missing; a genuine connection with her family members. Rick, Morty and Summer were gone for two weeks, and Beth didn't notice, because the robots Rick designed to placate her, spent time with her. Effectively, when Beth suggests she and Morty do what Robot-Morty just suggested, the rejection that he gave her was a clear indication of how the children view her...A Nuisance to be Placated... Hell, in Pickle Rick, when Beth takes her children for THEIR therapy session, she completely loses control of the situation and is forced to face her own shortcomings - and what she highlights about the most, is admiration for her father, because he doesn't NEED anything from anyone... That's the problem with Beth; she has a serious Need-Complex...Because her Father walked out on her at such a young age, it made her realize - even on the unconscious level - that Rick didn't need her, or even want anything to do with her. Morty and Summer are quickly becoming similar; they no longer need their mom; mainly because she's a bad parent who has never really taken an interest in them, outside of contempt - and the fact that they spend so much time with Rick. Hell, they are so indifferent to her, that literally the problems that they were dragged into Therapy for - which everyone thought were caused by the divorce - had literally nothing to do with the divorce. Basically along the lines, Beth began to realize that now that Jerry was out of the house, SHE was the superfluous one. No one needed her; and worst, the time where Summer actually DID need her help, she royally screwed up, because she isn't interested in being a parent. And then even worse than that, Rick reveals that Beth has her own version of "Jerry-Bouree"; an alternate universe where Rick would sometimes send her, to placate her and keep her out of his hair. - Also revealing that she's a sociopath, but c'mon, tell me there's anyone who watched the show who hadn't figured THAT out yet. When Rick suggests giving her a clone so that she could escape and take-off, it's based on the pretense that the clone would take care of the family in her absence. But part of all of this made Beth realize, that they wouldn't even NEED the clone to take care of the family or live up to any of her responsibilities. The reason why Beth got hung-up on whether or not she was a clone, had everything to do with the fact that she no longer knew who she was. She's completely lost perspective on everything that made her who she was. Enter Jerry...Jerry is the one person who has known Beth the longest, so realistically speaking, he should know who she is. But more than that...Jerry is actually stable. The reason that Beth is with Jerry - or at least has been for so long - was because Jerry was someone who actually needed HER for once; out of everyone in Beth's life, Jerry was the one who needed her. And Beth as it turns out, needed Jerry - she needed someone who NEEDED her. Someone who thought she was important, someone who depended on her for something, to give her meaning in life... Jerry was the one thing Beth could count on; she counted on him to never leave. And that's why they're back together...They're Co-Dependent...

Tbh, if you switched the episodes around, it really wouldn't matter. Because they mix the plot lines around, it made the season incoherent and wasted its potentail. I didn't like this season, I didn't think I would hate a whole season, but they missed the mark a bit. When trying to develop Beth, they made me dislike her even more and it made me even more confused. Not the good kind of confusion that comes with watching rick and morty, but the kind of confused that comes with not actually bringing the story elements together properly. Now, while it was in part due to the writing not being to par at times, the real issue was with pacing.

I'd prefer it if they stuck to the silly and great stuff instead of making all the drama around the divorce just to void it. The divorce was basically just angry emotion drama to be set back when they decide they love each other again and that meant, we could've avoided S3 Ep2. (Some people have different reasons for why the season wasn't good. Som accuse sexism to female writers and some blame hype, I blame this long arc that made me kind of want it to end or do something good.)

So I've read that season 3 is the weakest out of the last two why is that? *(Not a huge fan of this show just curious)*

For me, it's because the episodes aren't as creative as they used to be.

Season was is debatable in quality, season to was a plus, but season 3 sucked due to mainly the fact that there were many plot driven episode rather than comedy. I love the pickle rick episode, but it's probably the most unfunniest episode. Not that it's bad, but there is very little jokes and most are either weak or complex.
@lordkaijux52627 жыл бұрын
I guess they wanted to build more emphasis on a focused narrative I mean there's nothing wrong with an episode being plot driven as long as it's consistent in terms of direction and good writing it doesn't have to be rapid fire comedy every time but I can see your statement thoroughly.

I believed that this season finale The Rickchurian Mortydate would have involved the Galactic Presidential election with the president of the galaxy having been killed off in this seasons first episode and it involves Evil Morty backing an alternate Morty still detoxed being the popular candidate tipped to become president backed by Tammy and Birdsperson and its up to Rick and Morty to kill detoxed Morty before he attains the office of president as he plans to turn the federation from a galaxy wide political union to a universal or even multiversal union of power. Moreover when watching this series as a whole an unsettling revealation dawned on me when watching Rick and Morty series 3 and its that Rick Sanchez having autism could be leading to the fact that in all honesty Rick could be an alter ego of Dan Harmon fighting the fictional facist regime of Evil Morty insert Trump or any dictator of month.

Season 3 is really weak and short, the problem is... everything returns to normal and nothing happens at all... a big problem with the sitcoms, the status Quo PD: Rick is OP please nerf
@halfdemonprince7 жыл бұрын
You could argue that that was what they were mocking which is why they did it, but I just don’t buy it. They could’ve done a better job with returning to the status quo, like South Park. Hell, they even mention in universe that South Parks does everything faster than them. Which makes me wonder if Rick and Morty are aware that they’re cartoons, or if South Parks is a show within their universe?

Yeah the season finale isn't all that hot. The stuff with Rick and the President is cool but nothing we haven't seen before. The president is a smashing of Trump & Obama and nowhere near as fun as the devil, doesn't have the same chemistry as with the microverse guy, and is just kinda flat overall. And the parts with Beth should have been about her moving on with her life as opposed to getting back with Jerry who she was not happy being with. Shit I'd rather she get with Paul Fleishman, he at least seemed nice and is smart enough not to get Beth and Morty into trouble by telling an alien that they're the reason he's breaking up with her and no I will never let that go. The show spent it's entirety making me hate this spineless idiot only for him to get everything he wants [i.e. his wife, his kids, and his wifes house] after an episode where he almost got his kids killed due to his cowardice. That. Is. Shit. All I'm saying is that unless Jerry dies I won't be happy. #PaulFleishman And I also heard this season was supposed to be 15 episodes so the rushed feeling makes to much sense. Overall, this may well be one of the worst Rick and Morty episode. 3.5/10
