This is a real hidden gem of a site at Coniston, Lake District. Lots of walks including Coppermines Valley, Old Man of Coniston, Tarn Howes and lake side walks. Village is approx a 10 minute walk. Five minute walk to the Blue Bird Cafe where you can board the Coniston Launch or the National Trust Steam Yacht Gondola.

A cracking vlog Rob, we really enjoyed this one. Love the site. Exactly what we'd look for. Hedges, trees and full of character and that view just tops it off, as well as the view from the top of the old man 🙂 Cheers for this one 👍 Mart & Jo

Thanks for your kind comments Mart & Jo. Lovely pitch views but cleverly shielded for the environment. You never know what you’re going to find up a mountain but a good view on a clear day is always guaranteed. Cheers. Rob

Not sure I’d describe the Lake District as a ‘walkers paradise’ in England, due to the rocky terrain and its effect on feet. Dartmoor, the South Downs, Peak District , New Forest and others are easier on the soles of the feet for sure.

Hello Paul, Not caravanned south yet but we know the Peak District well and have enjoyed many lovely walks there. We do love the scenery in the Lakes though and the change in landscape. We did some nice easy walks from Hawkshead Hall Campsite in the Lakes last September (see video). Thanks for watching and commenting 👍 Best regards, Rob & Gail 😀

Blimey Rob that sites much better now last time we looked on years ago it was a little tatty , I think Donald Campbell launched Blue Bird from there and the pub in the village had lots of old photos of him and his crew .. great film as usual 👍

We love it at Pier Cottage. As it is today it’s in keeping with the ruggedness of the Lake District and has a charm of its own. Donald Cambell stored and launched BlueBird K7 from here and we saw the launch rails running into the water next to where the steam boat Gondala is moors. Donald’s funeral cortège set off from here. Thanks very much for watching and commenting, All the best, Rob & Gail

Hi Robert This series you're doing about sites with serviced pitches is a real Gem. Absolutely brilliant. We've booked three sites on the back of watching these videos. Mythop Fell, Dale View & Pier Cottage. Keep up the great work, I'm loving your channel 👏 👍

Love the vlogs you do on serviced pitches. Good review of route and site and love the walks well explained with map views. Trying to get on Pier Cottage ourselves. We recently stayed at Hawkshead Hall Camping site, great location and lots of nearby walks. Would certainly suit you. Keep up the good work 👍🏻

Nice to hear our walks and map views are appreciated as well as the sites we stay at. Just looked at Hawkshead Hall and we’ve noted it for next year as we have all this year booked. Looking at the map there are some good walks from site. Out of all my site reviews Pier Cottage has had the most views, so could have increased their bookings. Certainly worth a stay. Thank you very much for your comment John, much appreciated, Rob

its strange to think Donald Campbell went to pier cottage 1967 to be with K7 and died on coniston :( i noticed the cemetery when you went through the village it was on the right . i went to Donald's grave 2003 summer . great video i do hope i can visit again one day .

Yes I realised afterwards I never mentioned it in my video. Rails can be seen at the side of the pier running into the water where Donald launched the Bluebird on that fatal day. Coniston Water will always be associated with Donald. We also hope to return there and hope you also manage a trip back too. Thanks very much for watching. Rob

This is one of our all time favourite sites 👍. Donald Campbell’s Bluebird was launched from Pier Cottage. We generally visit Cumbria in September but this year we’re just on the border with Lancashire. We have other videos out on Cumbrian sites we’ve stayed at. Thanks for watching. Cheers Rob & Gail 😀

We took advantage of the great view just like we did when we stayed four years ago on pitch 3. It’s great to be able to position your caravan just where you want as long as it’s on your pitch. An awning has never appealed to us Kev. Never felt the need for one as we are happy sat in our caravan. Best regards. Rob

Hi Rob, great video thank you. How many pitches approximately have lake views similar to your pitch number 5 in the video please, do you know the pitch numbers, think you said pitch 12 and that looked a lake view, thanks.
@robswiseways5697
@robswiseways5697 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, With the exception of pitches 1 & 2, all the perimeter pitches offer some kind of lake view. (3, 4, A, B, 5, 10 to 12). Best to speak to owner Fay who is very helpful. They have to provide some screening to obscure the caravans so it’s down to you to position your caravan/motorhome to get the best view. We noticed some caravans and motorhomes had even pitched sideways. I’m sure you will have a good time there. Cheers and thanks for watching, Rob

@@robswiseways5697 Thank you so much for your reply and information Rob. Yes would love to go, the last time I was at Coniston lake was 16 years ago when we stayed at an Ullswater site and we payed Coniston a visit by car over on Windermere's ferry. :) But we visited the other side of the lake beaches and didn't actually go into the village. I said to myself then that one day I'll take tourer to Coniston and this year I want to tick it off my bucket list haha. 👍

Looks a lovely location Rob thanks for sharing, I'd be interested to know how much (£) per day was your electric bill was, we don't carry any gas with us so everything is electric apart from the BBQ (coals). Do they give you a consumption and tariff report.. Thanks again..
@robswiseways5697
@robswiseways5697 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Howard, For our five nights stay at the end of September our electric worked out at £3.20 per day. Bearing in mind we both showered in the caravan daily and had the heating on most of the time, I think this was very reasonable. This together with the pitch fee came to a total of £31 per night. Again very competitive for the Lake District. We received our bill showing simply the total cost of electricity for 5 nights. Thanks for watching. Rob

Hi Gary, When booking we asked for an outer perimeter pitch and were allocated pitch 5 which we were extremely happy with. Being a small site I don’t suppose they can always guarantee a specific pitch number but you can always ask. Thanks very much for watching. Cheers Rob

Fair comment Dave. Our electric consumption worked out at £3.20 per day. We didn’t think that was too bad for the time of year, using heating etc. Cheers. Rob
