For anyone wondering what those marks at 35:07 are for, they're used to set the summer and winter mode for the choke. Also would really recommend making a vacuum generator using an old bicycle pump fitted with a gauge to get correct measurements because those can vary quite a lot if the parts are faulty. Also makes it easier to set up that way because you don't need to hold anything together with a rubber band.

@@JamesAkers Thanks for asking, actually the car still ides quite bad, it does start but with the help of the throttle. After getting a bit warm it starts to have problems (like running on 5 cylinders only). I suspect the problem is the choke flat that does not open and close when it should. I set it up to max 3,5 mm open but this does not help much. I ordered a new choke pulldown unit (original) maybe this would help. Is there any other way to test if the choke mechanism works?

The accelerator pump volume, according to one of the manuals should actually be 0.326 ml (cm³), which is way lower than what is in CJs manuals... Also the duration of the stroke, and the gap between seem to be switched...
@JamesAkers5 жыл бұрын
You're right about the pump test, it should be 1 second pump and 3 second wait! I thought i'd double checked the volume from the other manuals, i've have to re-check.

I was thinking maybe block off the tube to the unit then try do adjust the small Allen screw to get the choke flap to open slightly (3mm if possible) when cold. Anyone?

Hi, just a bit confused about the jets, you changed the jets for the primary and secondary Venturi, and the air correction jet you changed just one, am I not correct in thinking that the secondary Venturi air correction jet needs replacing or is it fixed and can't be changed.

Great videos. I’ve watched this one all the way through more times than I care to admit. Still struggling to set my carb up though….it really struggles to start in the cold, I push the throttle in to set the choke flap but it just doesn’t want to start, then the auto choke warms and opens too quickly and the carb guzzles in lots to cold air and bogs down and stalls! Once warm it runs really well. Any ideas?

I just had one question. I just wanted to ask re the fuel isolation valve, I've tested this, it's clean, it clicks when I put a 12V charge acrosss it but I wondered, should the 4 holes in the valve all be completely open and exposed when you put that charge across or do they still appear partially 'blocked'. It clicks which is good but not sure how far it should go back so not sure if it is still faulty. Any ideas, thanks :-)

Hello James. So happy to have found this video. This might be a silly question, I don't know much about mechanics... yet... My 1988 T3 just had a new engine put in and the mechanic opted to upgrade from the 1.9l to the 2.1l using the same carburetor (Pierburg2e3). I have a few issues (gas mileage, stuck throttle control, missing lever for choke flap) and am now wondering, before completely taking the carburetor apart and/or looking for a rebuild one, will it ever going to work properly with the 2.1l??
@JamesAkers4 жыл бұрын
Hello! Yes, there are loads of people using the Pierburg 2E3 on the 2.1L and it running really well so would definitely recommend giving it a refurb. Search on the The Samba (www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewforum.php?f=20&sid=1cadc8374c5848ba2d62cee81d3d8217) and Club 80-90 (club8090.co.uk/forum/) forums for examples. Let me know how you get on!

@@JamesAkers Ah, only just now realized that you had responded. Thank you so much!! I have also contacted you with my other email on another video of yours...I live in the States and am learning that a carburetor is not the best part to have in the engine, as that version of the VW engines never officially made it to the states. I am determined though to get that thing fixed LoL. The spring from the throttle control is missing and also the lever that attaches to the choke flap is gone. Maybe a few other parts. Those are the two obvious ones. I am on a back order list of sorts for a carburetor coming from the UK, but that might be a while so I am trying to figure out what parts the two missing ones are to possibly order those somewhere and start rebuilding.

Hi mate, the Haynes I have has the following info for the LT 2.4 - There are two measurements for the Choke pull-down: (a) - 3.5mm +/- 0.15 and (a1) - 7.2mm +/- 0.2. If you look at this video for the Golf the guy makes two measurements so it might be the same process for yours: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKWanZJ4Zq9oarc No info on the pump setting though, i'll see if I can dig anything out.
