I'm wondering if this would look ridiculous on my pieris... It has 4 trunks that spread out far away from each other right at the base. They don't grow straight up like yours and the foliage grows really round like a shrub. It was way overgrown when we bought our house and I just haven't known what to do with it.

I would start to remove branches that extend sideways. New one will grow vertically. This would take years and it will look odd for a while. I have a big Boxwood that I started, knowing I may fail in having clouds, since they grow so fast. I did it knowing the worst is it will revert back to what it was. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eH-XZYmii8mMoqs I did this pruning to have the plants fit into my small yard, and to add a vertical element. Pieris looks great in its natural form. As long as it fits well into its surrounding. Are you willing to put in the time for the next few years. Easy fir me since I am retired. 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻whatever you decide!

Btw. A tone down version. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iXy2qIaZaaqcfa8 Tree formed but not in clouds. It is less work and you can do clouds once you get it into tree form. 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
