D.O has the rare, authentic, and incredible gift, with his soulful interpretations of vocal inflections and presentations. His song selections seem like an intimate conversation between the listener and himself. It is as if he was baring his soul, joys, fears, and expectations to a trusted friend or lover. One can hear his pain and desperation in Lost. You feel his flush of excitement in I Do. I won't go through the entire album; however, each song bares raw emotion, and the listener is captivated in that moment. Both of his solo albums, and his singles (such as That's Okay) reflect the struggles, triumph, and acceptance of the everyday experience. Stripped of overproduction and glossy illusions, D.O captures the humanity and emotional core in all of us. What an amazing artist.

It's a habit for me to play the Empathy and the Expectation album plus his orher collaboration songs on a daily basis in my household. Thats how i love Kyungsoo's voice. Years will come to pass but i know that this habit will not change. I am so in love with D.O.'s voice. I am in my mid 50's but i truly enjoy his songs and his voice. LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! I’ve been waiting for this too!!! Expectation is everything…it feels like an evolution of what he gave us in Empathy. Some fans are eager to hear Kyungsoo lend his voice to other genres, but I love him on these beautiful, uncomplicated songs. And to say uncomplicated is not an insult in the slightest, the use of a more subdued (in comparison to general kpop) guitar-forward instrumental really compliments and elevates his voice. He imbues every word with so much soul and emotion. As always, love to hear your thoughts, especially on an album like this where your knowledge of guitar is put to good use!! I think aside from Kyungsoo’s beautiful voice, the use of guitar on this album is the most compelling component. We’re looking forward to DKS3 announcement within the next couple of months. The first time i hear the 2nd song, Wonder, I actually cry, because it's so joyful and happy. It's like a happiness that makes you cry. So good I love that you point out many things that I didn't catch back then. About the effect and the sound used in the songs. Anyway, both his albums are good and legendary. The amount of guitar he used here makes me so happy. I'm a bit nervous however, because he said that he'll make something different for his third album. I will hate to miss the sounds of this and 1st album. But i'm anticipating, it'll be an album he'll have outside sm afterall.

so glad you pointed out that "campire crackles" effect on it made it so dreamy and comforting. oh and the tamborine as well!!! loved the touch it gave to the songs. and was actually my faves in this album! another thing that i love about him is that he always go with his own style and never goes with "the trend" or the "mainstream kpop" style that we have now (to which he prob can pull off w A++ if he wanted to) and i think that it's very brave and bold of him. much much respect for his craft. his voice shined so much in these tracks he never fails to leave an impression and resonate with his listeners through his art :)) i love him uaufudsujs thanks pierre!

Lost is one of my faves on this album. I really liked your interpretation of how he might have sung the ‘I’m lost’ part in the bridge. The song to me after the slower more peaceful songs when the relationship is good, contrasts so nicely with the chaotic rapidity of the breakup. Singing that part slow, like you suggested would have brought that element of despair which would have been pretty interesting. Ordinary Day is so Beatle-esque to me I love hearing his voice in that setting. The compositions sound so simple but are so difficult to execute so well. There are a lot of repetitive notes but he’s the only artist I could listen to doing that because somehow he injects just enough variety in tone or strength or just the beauty of his voice to keep it interesting. I totally felt it when you said…it’s already over…at the end of Ordinary Day. That emphatic “I miss” in The View is a killer. These guys make me feel like I’d want each song to be at least 10 mins long…like they’re just too short. Very precious gifts. Actually thinking about it now, all those duets with Chanyeol accompanying on guitar should have been a clue to where D.O.’s musical heart is. Even though his R&B is something else.
