Piers Morgan Reacts To Village People Suing Donald Trump Over 'YMCA' Song

Piers Morgan Uncensored is joined by songwriter and lead vocalist for Village People Victor Willis and MAGA rapper Forgiato Blow to debate the band's recent decision to sue Donald Trump after having a lookalike group perform their music at an event in the former President's Mar-a-Lago residence.
Victor explains that he does not have a problem with Trump playing his music at rallies as he believes it is well within his right to do so and that he is flattered when anyone plays their music. He however explains that when the lookalike group performed 'YMCA' at Trump's residence, many people were under the impression that the band were endorsing him - and they prefer to stay out of politics.

Yeah, I had to check this video when I saw the title… Trump has a way of not letting things get to him. He just doesn’t seem to hold things against people in a way that I haven’t seen in anyone else. I mean, he is kind of being a douche, but you have to know the backstory and what it took for him to get back the rights to music he himself wrote. He is the original Village Person, he was scouted by a record company to sing all the songs and have a bunch of backup dancers. He signed a pretty weak contract to sing the record company's songs, but then they got absolutely huge only AFTER he started writing the songs two years later. He left 4 years later, and it's been hinted they forced him out because they wouldn't renegotiate his contract despite the fact he wrote all the major hits. It could be argued that his original contract was void when he started writing the songs. All those backup dancers went on, got a new singer, and performed the music he wrote for 35 years, despite the fact that none of those dancers can, or did, sing on their recordings. He got decent money from royalties, but deserved way more. He then sued and won an extended case where he got 50% ownership of the songs and barred all his former bandmates from singing or performing the music. So I can understand why he's really protective of his music even if this is kind of dumb.

My late husband used to be their booking agent. Along with every huge act you can think of past until the time of his death. I also inherited his company because I helped run it. I know the laws of copyright better than the back of my hand . As Victor stated himself and we all know there's no such thing as bad publicity in our line of work . It's skyrocketed their song and open them up to a generation of people they had never nor never would have reached before . Where I take difference with Victor is when he says, and it's my understanding his wife is the one who is pursuing this so I understand his back is a bit against the wall, However tribute bands have been playing his music and every other 70s 80s and now even 90s bands music with great regularity. They even have cruises devoted to cover bands. No one has ever to my knowledge pursue legal action against a cover band. Also Victor's wife may want to reconsider whom she's going after in this lawsuit As Donald Trump only hired the band. And in all actuality we know Donald did not hire the band it was hired through the events manager at Mara largo. This entire thing is rubbish and 100% Politically motivated.

A Cover or Tribute band promptly states they are as such. It's on the Ticket/Flyer/Bill, etc. Cruise companies get clearance through BOLA (Legal Departments). You can not do anything to make people believe you are the ACTUAL band. 30 years in Television and Music Videos and I can tell you most bands don't sue because it's a win(free advert) and the Cover bands don't have enough money to offset the legal fees. But if you overthrew a government, installed yourself as a dictator (as the actual people in the group), how is it you think the actual band wouldn't sue? It's NIL, not too hard to understand.
