Just for clarification, pig brains is not a food for the poor people in the Philippines. Its price is actually close to pork meat , so you can't consider it for people . When I buy ( goto/ a variety of porridge) its a little bit pricey and not always available even though its always on the menu . Pig brains are usually eaten with those acquired taste , and not a lot of people like it . Rich or poor people it depends on their preference , so we don't eat it because we are poor but some of just like to eat it .

During my younger days in Cebu City. I used to go this place to purchase fresh seafoods and eat their famous cuisines. This is famous in my city. For me it is not a slum food. But it's a delicacy for us as a pure blooded Cebuano. And I tell you frankly, It's not dirty food. Even now in my forties, I still hang around and eat there.

my experience with tuslob-buwa, I already ate about 6 or 7 puso, then I asked the vendor what the ingredients are, I was stunned when she said pig brain, no words came out of my mouth. Paid for my meal. Got to my room. Haven't eaten it again and that was about 6 years ago now. I do admit though, it tasted soooo good. watching this reminded me of the aroma of when it's cooking, mmmmm...

So CNA must show poverty porn, to make other people feel better? I often say that majority of Filipinos are like Diogenes, without them even knowing it. Outsiders try to box Filipinos to their concept of money. A lot of Filipinos are happier (Quality of life) even with our current Standard of living. We are communal, we love to be surrounded by people. Even if you think that the area looks "poor", you will be surprise of how rich in happiness people are there. Also most of these vendors might look poor to you, but they earn way more than average wage in Philippines. Some are just contented with their living condition. A crowded place like those means cheap rent for business and more customers. Also food business is really time and physically demanding, even there in SG.

Sorry if similar comment has been made before -- but the rice cake in woven pandan leaves, we have it too in Indonesia and Malaysia, we call it KETUPAT. I'm actually giggling to watch this eaten with a pork dish, because in Indonesia ketupat is normally associated with the Eid Fitr celebration!:)))

When I was young I thought we were poor. Then I started knowing first world people who only goes on vacation for a few days a year. Working sixteen hour days. Now I'm older i realize there are so many good things about my country. We'd go to the beach every weekend. Even everyday when we want to. Love doesn't require a big bank account. And food is great and cheap.

I rode by this place when I was living in Cebu and never went in there. I think a good Sisig needs pigs brain. But I have no idea cuz I was just an expat. Cebu Lechon is also untouchable. I can't eat Hawaiian Imu pork anymore because I know what Cebu Lechon tastes like.

Ahhhh, the famous "Larang" soup. Jeez, I haven't had one of that for a long time. Best eaten between 4-5 am when the fish is still fresh from the port (you can actually still smell the sea from the fish), also when you are heading home after a night out drinking. haha. Doesn't cure hangover though but will lessen the headache the morning after.
