It's been my experience that the Dutch speak very good English! I come from a Dutch family (I don't speak it, but German I do), and when I was in the Netherlands, I never really had any difficulty with communication! Sure, some of the older generation weren't as good as the younger, but there really was no barrier there!! Henk is so great person, very professional and great singer, but his person and aura carries so much kindness and peacefulness and a "solid rock" vibes, a father figure in a good sense, an "old and wise soul" - what you were talking about is exactly as said and very important for people to understand in todays "wrap it and sell it fast" music industry. That's why it is so refreshing and joyful to see an artist like Floor who pushes the boundaries and experiments and is amazingly and exceptionally perfect in any genre, professional in the preparations and performs anything better than I have ever heard or seen by anyone ever has delivered the emotions and the story/message through and sings like an Angel, which said in Floors case is even undermining her singing - it's a million miles ahead of others. OK blabbering here now, but what it means to me to hear Floor sing - pure joy and a beautiful trip inside of my own emotions - that is all any vocal artist can ever achieve as best - so thanks for these feelings and these minutes of eternal Paradise in music and singing, I always wish Floors performance would never end, it is just so insanely heavenly to live with. Looking forward to enjoy this in any forms most beautiful she decides to deliver it :D

I love these conversations and I love your inquisitive mind. I have recently taken a big step outside of the pigeon hole as a guitarist by starting a Celtic Rock band and by starting to write in a style I am not used to. I have been playing rock and metal most of my guitar life (30 years) and at 46 years old decided I want to get back into music after a long break. I now see my main role as a songwriter now and songwriting for vocals is a hell of a lot harder than writing for just guitar/instrumental songs. I am loving the journey and those that have come together to join me in this project are enjoying what I have written so far. I was inspired to start the Celtic Tock band after stumbling across the song “I want my tears back” by Nightwish earlier this year. Now I had been listening to Nightwish on and off since the early 2000’s but I hadn’t really listened to them for a while, then I saw the 2013 Wacken version of Ghost Love Score and was hooked back into them. I had then bought all the albums (digitally) and had them on my phone. “I want my tears back” came up in a random play and I was like who sings that?!! I found out it was Nightwish and I then searched the entire back catalogue for anymore Celtic/folk influenced songs and found a lot. In a nutshell, I have since become seriously obsessed with Nightwish and their Amazing music. This also lead me to Beste Zangers and hearing Henk (Love his voice). But anyway back to the pigeon hole idea, I have been playing guitar for so long, I never considered myself a songwriter (obviously, I am still not an official songwriter, but I feel I am one in the making) I now approach my music with completely different ears. I also take great inspiration from the Amazing Tuomas. He really knows how to compose songs to get the best out of the song as a whole. Now you yourself and Marco are both Amazing singers, yet neither of you ever sing just for the sake of “Look at why I can do” everything you both sing (and Troy) always compliments the songs and elevates them to a higher level. Match Tuomas’s writing/composing with the incredible musicianship of the band and you manage to create music that touches the soul. You also always look like you are having fun and enjoying yourself on stage. That is infectious. I will be using Nightwish as a benchmark for everything I do in this Celtic Rock band as I don’t know of any better role models than yourselves. I will also use the songwriting as a learning tool. My apologies for the long winded message but I just wanted to show my appreciation and share my story of how you guys have influenced me to step outside of my box. 😃🤘🏻🤘🏻

Dank u veel Floor & Henk!! Thanks for a wonderful interview. I am so happy that you both chose not to 'pigeonhole' yourselves to one style. I've really taken to discovering all of Nighwish's songs, and absolutely LOVE what you bring to the vocals! You truly are a gifted singer! As for Henk, The Phantom Of The Opera has been my favourite musical since I was 10 (when the London cast of Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford came to be known). I've heard so many different Phantoms (including Paul Stanley of KISS doing a very admirable job!) I would LOVE to hear a recording of you as the Phantom! The music of the night never dies!! I have known of and respected Henk as an amazing voice for years, obviously from his history in Phantom...and I had also known OF and have been amazed by YOU (honestly until about 6 hours ago, I had pretty much referred to you as 'damn, that chick in that metal band is a friggin amazing singer'), but now...hell, I don't even remember exactly WHAT I was initially looking up, but suddenly I see a Nightwish live track on my suggestions that I had only ever heard the studio version of, and thought to myself, 'oh okay...I'm not doing anything right now, what the hell, lemme put a face to the voice'. And here we are; I have now spent 1/4 of my 24hr shift on the ambulance, watching every live video I could find between calls...THEN I saw the suggestion of you and Henk doing Phantom on Beste Zangers and now I have to say...damn...I haven't seen talent like this in a long time. I saw someone comment on another video about how they have never been a 'true fan' of anyone before finding you, and I had to stop and think; since the passing of my hero, Neil Peart, back in January, I haven't really considered MYSELF to be a true fan of an individual performer both AS a performer and as a person away from their craft...and then I found your Storytime videos ON TOP OF your performances. It may sound cliché, but, yeah, I am 100% a new fan of yours. All respect to you, and stay safe out there

This year of COVID has been a year of revelation for me. I have questioned many things about my career, my life, my fundamental pillars and the insecurities that people grow up with, and mine in particular... and in the end my reflection has been: pigeonholing is bullshit. This video reaches me very deep because I have decided to open my panorama a little bit, and suddenly things have begun to go too well, and what they discuss here in this video are the same things that I have reflected on, and I am a great fan of Floor but I must add that she is doing now many more things than being the best heavy metal vocalist, and I am very happy because it makes me admire her even more and follow her more closely. Then came the prog era, and shortly thereafter metal. Then I also started singing (mostly folk/rock type of stuff) and after a couple years decided to join a choir. Still with that same choir (for about five years) and now also a member in an a capella quartet. Also still enjoy playing all of the "genres" mentioned (though it's hard to find groups and time for all of them) and I'm also in a band playing hmm... lets call it heavy/rock/pop just to give some idea. This is all at an amateur level, of course, but even still - the faces I get when I tell people that I like to sing/play/listen to basically almost everything from classical to punk and trash sometimes almost make me laugh.

That was cool, thank you. 😊 I think one box is where you can start and as you evolve and grow you can explore more and more boxes. It makes everything interesting and keeps things fresh. I'm so glad you have explored your vocal talent - it has given us all so much joy. 😃 And have to say, you have inspired me to wake up my vocal chords from a "winter sleep" of many years. I don't perform to anyone (yet), but it's so exciting to find that I can still do things I have done years ago and also things that I haven't tried ever before. Like belting high notes - what a rush. 😃 So thank you for the inspiration. ❤️🎶

I gave this video a thumbs up before I even watched it. And I was right. Very insightful conversation. I also love to sing all kinds of music, from opera and R&B to musicals and metal and Floor has been a huge inspiration for me since I listened to her back when she was part of After Forever. Also, as a metalhead, when I started getting into metal 20 years ago, subgenres were very helpful in order to figure out which style I liked best (and I still find it very useful). I've thought about what Floor said: what if a band is placed in a category where it doesn't belong? There's also bands who jump subgenres from album to album or from song to song. Yes, for a while they might be categorised as the subgenre they started as or as the one that made them famous, but people eventually realise that's not who they are anymore and move on. As for having been hurt by being categorised as gothic metal, I don't know. Metalheads very rarely stick to just one subgenre and I think most of us explore quite a bit. That being said, metal as a whole is an incredibly demonised genre. Fortunately, thanks to people like Floor, it seems like little by little it's getting rid of its bad rap and more and more people are discovering it.
