Hi Will, great video! I have a quick question... Do the holes need to be in a specific location on the van? Or can you drill the self tapping screws anywhere on the inner metal lining. I was confused whether there were holes already in the metal work you have to use or can you just screw anywhere through the plywood into the metal? Thank you for the help!

Thanks! You can drill anywhere into the inner metal lining using the self tapping screws. Hope that helps! 🙂

It does, thank you very much. Do you protect those new holes in any way from rust? Or should I not worry, I don't see how I can prime them if the plywood is infront. @@willsvanadventures

@@SeanEvelegh I didn't protect them but you could paint them with some hammerite or something similar. Not the worst idea 🙂

Hi Will. I cant find anywhere online where you can screw into the van? Mine is already carpeted but I want to attach wood to the side for a bed. Do you know? Cheers
@willsvanadventures3 жыл бұрын
Hey, there is an internal structure to the van that you can screw into. I'm sure there will be images and diagrams online to help. If you look at empty vans you'll be able to see the structure. Theres parts that stick put that you'll need to screw into. Saying that you should be able to see what I mean in my video before I install the panels.

@@willsvanadventures alright cheers dude. Yeah found some images .

@UCo9-u2FSDRasW7ka00V2UGg that's annoying, there might not be any to be fair. But if you look at empty vans you should deffo be able to see the extra internal metal that can be screwed into. Essentially I believe you can screw into any of it just not the actual external metal. - theres an inner and outer. But I'm no expert, if you call the company I purchased the plywood off I'm sure they'd be happy to help. Links in the description.

I don't see why not! Should be easy enough to do, if you cut the ply to the door shape.

Are there wall holes in most vans then ? Transit etc as I get boarding need to be attached but wondered how? As don’t wanna screw through the sides or roof?
@willsvanadventures2 жыл бұрын
Hey, so there is an inner and out metal skin. You just need to attach the boards to the inner skin and then it won't go all the way through.

Hi I'm attaching my panels already carpeted. 2 questions.....1.will the screws provided be long enough with the carpet already attached? 2.any idea where the screws go?
@willsvanadventures2 жыл бұрын
Hey, it depends what length screws you have? If you have 20mm screws then it will be fine. If you put your screws on the edge of the panel, you can see how far the screw will poke through just in case. In terms of placement. Aim for the inner skin of your van. I'd do a few at the top, bottom and middle of the panel. Let me know if you need more help. :)

Do you have a video for screw placements mate? Cheers - very cautious incase I screw through to the outer of the can 😮

Hi, v informative vid, thank you! I too have just bought a 2013 ex british gas Maxi, and will be ply lining and inulating next week. I have ordered the ply lining kit but I am a bit confused as to the insulating procedure....this is what I 'think' is the correct way: 1) clean metal. 2) option to put sound deadening strips onto some panels. 3) apply sheep wool or recycled bottle insulation wool onto floor, ceiling and sides, held on by adhesive or aluminium tape. 4) cover everything in therma wrap. 5) apply Ply lining kit (pre varnished) .......what do you think? Im a bit worried the ply wont fit if I insulate the floor. Any advice is greatly appreciated! thanks!
@willsvanadventures2 жыл бұрын
Hey yeah that is correct. I also like to paint the metal with hammerite just to prevent it rusting. While it's all stripped back it makes sense as sometimes the little scratches have surface rust. That all sounds correct to me. I personally wouldn't insulate the floor. I don't think it's needed. But if you're going away a lot in the winter or a generally a person who gets cold a lot then could be a good idea. The ply kit might not fit with the extra insulation but you can just trim it down to fit. So don't worry. :) With the insulation I'd use the recycled bottle plastic as it doesn't hold moisture so won't go mouldy and it's better for the environment. :)

Planning on doing this myself, assuming that’s the thermawrap insulation? Is it worth doing? Does it make it warmer? I got the same van for work but wanna insulate so I can sleep in there for the odd night in the country.
@willsvanadventures3 жыл бұрын
Good to hear! The thermowarp is there for the condensation barrier. So it doesn't really have any insulation properties. It's meant to reflect heat so I guess it does help but ideally you want to insulate with the recycled bottle plastic. Then use the thermowarp for the condensation barrier. Hope that helps! Happy to answer any more questions!
@tonybutler29423 жыл бұрын
@@willsvanadventures hey thanks, I just looked that recycled plastic up, looks better than fibreglass so definitely gonna go with that. Was thinking of putting some 25mm battens on the floor and some celotex, I can also leave a couple of slots for my spirit levels 😀

@@tonybutler2942 yh it's way better as doesn't hold any moisture and isn't harmful plus better for the environment. Good plan with floor. I should of done that as well. But I will on the next one Haha

Did the holes in your van match up with ply walls? Ours seems to not match up and too big for the screws. Used similar ply to yours
