So I live in a small town in northern New York and we had a train derailment dumping 100k pounds of plastic pellets and 150k pounds of grape seed oil. It hasn't had the same effect but there is a high volume of bald eagles in the area. It's crazy to me how little that was done about it and what will happen to the fish as it's made it's way to multiple waterways

years ago we had a retired Chrome plating shop owner dispose of a drum of waste from his old shop. Right into the creek in his back yard which ran into Lake Erie ( not real close ) Killed a bunch of rough fish,shiners,chubs,suckers & carp. Most washed away before the DNR could get there. He got a fine , mostly from dumping not the fish kill.

We had a train derail just outside our little city and a train car fully loaded with benzene spilled into a river that is a tributary of Lake Superior. That accident killed a ton of fish and even months later when I went fishing in the bay just across from where the river empties into the bay I could still smell the benzene. All I caught was a couple of bullheads, not one game fish. I've caught, walleye, northern pike, Muskellunge, crappie, perch there. The fisheries have recovered but it took a few years.

Many companies do this and not even the DNRS OR Game and Fish commisions can do much about it. I mean that could, but itll lead to them doing other than theor actual job. I think the way something like this should work is a proper investigation! If a person was not considered the culprit then the company should be held responsible. Once that is figured out then DNR should be able to estimate total damages and whatever that amounts to should be what the person or Company should have to pay to DNR to replenish and fix that area!! If it cannot be paid in one lump sum within 90 days then at that point Jail Time and Fines will kick in!!!

@timmontano87928 ай бұрын
What kind of fertilizer was it? I ask because with the release of that much into the river, you'd think that come springtime the plant life along the sixty-miles worth of shoreline would be turning green as hell, which in turn might actually help the aquatic life in the long run.

But this time it didn’t catch on fire 🔥. Spills or all sorts happen all over the country. Some do very little damage or effect certain species of fish and other times it really does get everything that swims or drinks.
