Piha after Cyclone Gabrielle

Late on February 13, the small west coast village of Piha was hit by unprecedented rainfall from cyclone Gabrielle. The storm has left a tight-knit community reeling after multiple landslides and flooding has destroyed houses and many have been forced to leave their homes and set up camp in the Piha Surf Club

@@johnmartin7158 As of today, they are finishing up pumping all the flooding out, cleaning houses, working on insurance claims and locals taking a very long drive out through Bethalls to get into town

I forget what those inshore marshes are called. The Oregon coast has tons of fresh water ponds and marshes sheltered by hills of sand dunes. An inviting place to have a batch.

When I was a kid I remember the sky being much bluer. In the 90s I remember many amazing days at Piha with the blue sky. Piha is an amazing place

@@NgaTaeOfficial So you missed when they put 100 tanolised posts 30m out onto flat beach in 2013 and planted spinifex grass all across the beach between them. Spinifex is used to catch sand and form sand dunes. They then pulled all the posts out when they were almost buried and reset them. When they were buried a second time, they put in another 100 posts around the top of the old posts and planted more spinifex. It's well documented as is the fact that Piha Beach had natural accretion and was not under threat of erosion.
