Slow moving surface plugs near weedbeds and overhangs, or a spinner fished slowly just fast enough so the blade is turning. Use a wire trace.

Don't know which one ? Must have been from a regular tackle shop.I think there are lots of companies selling them,particularly in America. I suggest looking at the Bass-Pro websites,and look for largemouth bass lures.

the one you called the shad, I used to have one bright reflective orange with a yellowish belly. I used to fish it like a spinner, constant steady pace and I would cast pikes in no time!

Only for Largemouth bass in weedy areas.Lake Naivasha,Africa,Arizona/Florida/Arkansas in the States etc. .Get most of the takes on the drop-back.I find them a bit slow for retrieving with pike.

A warm water lure.I don't use them in the winter for pike,as the pike will be down near the bottom.You want a lure that gets down a couple of feet in cold wseather,as the pike won't move far to grab it.

Just started Pike fishing, I'm only halfway through your video and so impressed I stopped to write this. Thank you.....much that I wanted to know about lures I have already found in this video which is presented with humour, passion and with clear experience I can learn from. It is exactly what I was looking for and I will most certainly be delving more heavily into your work, you Sir have yourself another subscriber. Good show!

If not frozen solid its always worth a go,as canals in general don't colour up as much as rivers. I wouldn't go mad buying loads of lures. Maybe just a plug or two,and might be better using spinners as there would be a chance of getting Perch.
@TAFishing11 жыл бұрын
Weedless lures would be a start. Then maybe if your lures have split rings where the trebles are you could remove them and add single, barbless hooks. That will also reduced snagging in the weeds. Look up something called a "Texas Rig" on the internet. It is used as a totally Weedless lure for Largemouth Bass in the States.
@TAFishing11 жыл бұрын
Generally you would mess up the action of the lure, but more important it acts as a counterweight when you cast and it will generally "helicopter" round in circles and actually cut down your distance. Better to let the lure do the work.

Work them a lot slower.Make the plug work slower,but I think spinners,maybe with a wye lead upfront on the trace to get it down might be better.The pike will be near the bottom,and not inclined to charge yards to grab it. Look for overhangs/features,dropoffs and find where the best area for baitfish is. Ask matchmen or the tackle shops where all the small fish get caught from.It might be just a few good swims.The pike won't be far away.Good luck.

Though I not a newbie about lurefishing , I've really enjoyed your video , thanks for sharing . This "redhead" plug at 10:47 is very interesting to me with it's mushroom-shaped tail extension , I see , that it can be fished as a topwater as well . If you jerk it to dive below the surface , it would cause for a little "plopp" and a bubble trace , after let rise again to repeat . Few lures sporting this action , and such is a killer during the warm season . Cheers , 61diemai

Both top lure videos. Really helps with lure choices especially of you're bamboozled with the choices available like me. Many people never actually see the action of their own lures. Thanks guys , might be good to revisit this subject with some of the new soft articluated life size ones and see if they're worth the huge price tags and what gear to use to cast the 8 oz plus weights. Savage ones are around £22 also they now do ducks and frogs.

Just getting myself ready for piking which I haven't done before. I have found a spoon in my dads old kit which I will try, but will also try a few plugs. I heard you mention in the winter they sit deep. Is this primarily the case? As I will try and buy a plug with more depth and perhaps jerk it as opposed to just reel it in if this is the case. Going to give Chichester canal a go. Lovely vid. Guy.

Spot on on your videos Matey, i have a nice selection of old plugs and one is a big favorite of mine as my father used it in norway with massive success, it is over 25 years old and has the war wounds all over it due to the big pike, too scared to use it incase i loose it hahaha, i did loose a big pike which guys who were there said it looked over 25lb i was plugging across the river severn and i was bringing it past my dead bait which was about 4 meters out and guess what .... yep my dead bait float went, they must of been following the plug in. so your theory does work mate , well done.. A1 you tuber. PS is there anyway i could use your emblem for a badge for my fishing jacket?

when it comes to lures, should I wait when I get a strike and and let the pike take line, or should I do a hook set immediately?
@k9feces10 жыл бұрын
Levi Evans I have watched so many pike take my lure and spit it out, and they are so gentle I would have never known I had a bite if I didn't see it happen.
@mattatherton132310 жыл бұрын
okay. i will tell you the best answer possible because i like you. haha. it really dpends on the lure. if you are using a soft plastic with a snag proof hook you wait about 3 seconds because the hook needs to be in the right position to be pulled out of the lure into the mouth of the fish. hard lures, the hook doesnt need to be inside the fishes mouth completly for the hook to penetrate because the lure doesnt cover the hook. also it doesnt feel real so you need to set immediatly. ive only been fishing for about 11 years due to the fact that im only 14 but i picked up ALOT due to the wide range of lures that i have picked up
