Awesome! Superb soundtrack too. Like you say, not every fish takes the frog, but it gets the heart pumping. Nice one

Glad you enjoyed it matey. We take fishing too serious sometimes. If we want to catch every fish then use the self hooking rigs carpets use. But we lure fish because we want something else. That means we have all the extra thrills and heartaches that come with it. But we sure have some fun!!

Brilliant filming, well done on a great video! I fish for pike with surface fished frogs and often think that when a pike takes a frog from underneath it looks like a crocodile attacking once it has "committed" to the take - Something that really gets the heart going. Lets please see more of these videos!

+Deathst4lker Never even been near the sea with a rod, looks a big water! ha ha. Yeah you can easily make the most of your sea gear to have a crack at the fresh water fish. good to know I helped inspire you to give it a go, thanks for watching mate.

I've got some very lightweight gear based on your recommendation with a few jig heads and braid with wire traces etc and a lot of my bass lures from the sea seem to meet with the approval of the perch ! No pike yet though - all in good time ;) I've got a 9' sea spinning rod with a few jerk lures (I will be getting some frogs like this one !!) and a light reel with some decent wire traces - so I will keep you posted ;) It's all pretty light gear that's in the boot of the car ! I've bought my first ever EA licence and I'm fishing everything from the puddles to the lakes !! ;) Love it ;) Cheers - keep it up ;)

I've got a 6' extra lightweight rod for the jig heads - and I might try drop shooting (just to see if I can be a bit more successful lol) I'm 51 btw - which is probably a bit older than normal to take up freshwater fishing !! I can't believe I've never thought about it before - I thought it was all about carp and bait fishing - I've watched all of your videos - and am out putting perch and pike fishing into practise !! Love it ;)

+Deathst4lker That's great to hear mate. You've got loads to explore and it's all another big adventure. You're not the only one to start up at that age as I've had similar messages and they're all loving it and catching. Some whacking fish being caught by them on the light gear too. You've got the right gear and the right idea, don't get serious with it. Just use it for some fun and a play about. Loads of freedom to wander about and fish places you didn't even know existed and fish when you normally wouldn't have done, a quick half hour here and there it's amazing what you can catch. Winter is just around the corner so it can get tougher but at the same time the pike and perch turn in to prime specimens and they are just stunning animals. Have fun mate and enjoy it. Its great when I get messages like this as I know all my own hard work trying to get the videos done is well worth the effort. tight lines matey! :)

+River Piker I had the kids out on a good friends boat two weeks ago and they loved it had all the wrong gear ( bar 30lb braid ) one of those every thing I took ( lures) floated but hay ho that's fishing thankfully my friend had a good collection of lures helped the kids out Best laugh was biggest fish and only pike of the day fell for a copper spoon ( tackle upgrades are on way just need to decide whether too make or buy lures )

+darren brewster So many ways of fishing lures and so much to learn. But keep learning mate. Next time out on the boat you know a bit more and so on. We fish loads from the boat so know you had a great day no matter what. Just a simple shad i one lure to take as you can simple drift around jigging, pull up to fishy looking spots and stop and jig or cast around.

@riverpiker8 жыл бұрын
Yeah SG only recent got on the US scene. May be they didn't bring their rods because you already have a good selection to go at? Yeah seen a few bass guys having success on the SG lures. Have you tried the small 3D trout? They will be ace for bass. Never seen that pompadour but it looks cool.

Absolutely great series of videos, and channel in general. Top water pike fishing is absolutely addictive. As mentioned before in some comments that type of lure is not my favorite, I prefer buzzers as they offer better hooking up ratio and more endurance to pike teeth. In order to compare and share experiences I am gonna ask you something. When during the season is top water fishing more productive? Is there any time of the year when you don't contemplate the possibility of targeting pike with top water techniques?Greetings from a new follower. Keep up with this great work.
@riverpiker9 жыл бұрын
+Andoni Ortiz Ayestarán Thanks matey, really appreciate the kind words. Yeah frogs are not the best for hook ups and if I can I'll use another top water, often I might just use any of my other lures but just thrash it across the surface. The frogs do well for heavy cover that's the main reason I use them. Typically the surface lures are used in the warmer months, mostly because of the weed cover. You can fish with the surface lures when other lures just get stuck in the weed. So most top water fun comes then, though for me i'll try to hold ff the hot weather and wait for late summer and early autumn. I've never tried the surface lures in winter, General theory is pike are more active in the warmer months but less in winter and because they are often near the bottom the surface lures aren't ideal. All that said, I love using jerk baits a foot under the surface in coldest winter. I have some of my best sport thrashing jerks about over 10ft and making the pike come up and hit. I suppose i best try the frog in winter and see what happens. Does that sound similar to what you find?

@lidijakuravica32839 жыл бұрын
how much time did you need to make the pike bite the bait
@riverpiker9 жыл бұрын
+Lidija Kuravica Hi Lidija. Often with pike when lure fishing, if you catch them off guard they react on instinct and will take on the first few casts. Once I have covered the bit of water in front of me with a lure and no pike hits I might try another totally different lure to see if that triggers a hit instead. Some days a change of lure is the trigger. If that fails I will move on and keep moving until I get a hit. you will catch more pike if you get mobile and find them rather than spending time in one spot. The only exception would be a known pike holding spot where they are know to come and feed. For example, a weir pool of a river might have pike coming in and out of it all day. So staying there and casting lots might get you fish eventually. With surface fishing for pike in the warmer months, the pike are pretty active and if something passes overhead like a frog, you can guarantee they will hit within a few casts. Most of the hits in these frog videos were on the first cast. Hope that helps, if you need any more advice you know where I am.

"thrill of the hit" LOL you dont say!The one time I used plastic frogs was in Canada fishing for small mouth bass. I went in a backwood general store and said whats a good lure to try? Oh this without a doubt ($7?-a lot of money for me in 1980-for a Bill Plummer weedless version) I thought maybe they were taking me for a rride, but I got it anyway Canadians are a truthful lot!. Settled into the cabin, then first cast hooked an 18 inch small mouth. It proved to be a viciously effective KILLER bait. I found a good method was to drift round the lake margins or among the reed shallows in the canoe, and plop the frog into a likely spot. Another especially effective method was deliberately land the frog on a overhanging bush or branch then gently pull it off and plop it down onto the water, 50/50 chance they took it almost as soon as it hit the water. Those bass charecteristically remind me of perch, strong fighters. But its the way they took the frog, jumping up out the water then back down onto the frog and gulp it down. Not good if you have a pace maker fitted...That lure was a fantastic investment. The best session was around 6 in the morning one day, in the background I was aware of splashing and crashing sounds and thought meh probaly someones dog....then turned to cast in between some massive boulders and there was a black bear stood upright on one of the rocks. You never forget scenes like that! That and EATING fresh bass (no catch and release in them days) gutted, washed, rubbed with salt, stuffed with bread onions butter and salt and pepper fit for a king
@riverpiker7 жыл бұрын
You guys make me jealous when you talk about all those bass. Would love it if we had some over here and we could have a mess around with the top waters. Seen plenty of videos and it looks fantastic sport on the lighter gear. Not so fussed about the bears though mate, you can keep those. ;)
@GOLDSMITHEXILE7 жыл бұрын
LOL My hosts had been going there for like 30 years and never seen any bears, I was there 2 weeks and seen 4 of them, one was eating blackberries right off the bush, amazing site, they grab the branch with both paws then pull from one end to the other exactly like how a woman wipes the washing line before pegging the washing up, they end up with a massive handful of berries, thorns and leaves and swoller the lot! I think there has been a few cases of small mouth or largemouth stocked in lakes near USAF bases here in UK (I am a Brit) but from what I hear they died out. Not sure about the pros and cons of introducing another non native speceis though I like your videos BTW, some good and helpful insights. I havent fished for a long time but am thinking about getting back into it in my old age, especially large perch, and possibly pike on lures (perch/roach/rat/mouse/FROG!) It seems like theres a zillion and one tackle options these days. I have a lathe and been turning up some shapes..... all the best Jonathan
@riverpiker7 жыл бұрын
Yes I think you might be right about some of the stocked bass. Not really up on it though to be honest. Ooh, get making some nice lures. I wish i had the tools, creativity and the patience to make my own. Would give me something to do when the weather is bad.
