I used to work in Ancoats in the early 80s. It was an old building, a mini mill. Last month I decided to do a visit and take some photos, and as I had not been to that part of Manchester since 1989 I asked my son to meet up with me. It is a good job that I did. I hardly recognised the place. It is all hightech and visual art with expensive flats to go with it. They had even managed to clean up the once filthy Rochdale Canal and construct a Marina. It reminded me of London. All manic and expensive. I hope that those old buildings and chimneys get preserved. We need them to remind us what Manchester was in the not too distant past. I look at Manchester with a bit of Lowry goggles. Great experience. Thank you.

I used to be around 89 90 as a young lad going to vinyl exchange and Eastern Block looking for white labels. It really is bonkers how much it’s changed. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment.

That's right up my street Mali (excuse the pun) I love that sort of photography and its not just about taking pictures its about having a day out somewhere with friends (if you can call them that) the demo was great, I would have got right in the middle of it and caused mayhem with the camera! The last big protest march I got involved there were bottles and tinnies flying through the air, the police had me for carrying what looked like a dangerous weapon (my camera) but they let me off with a caution! nobody else was spoken too!!!!! That was very interesting and it must be 40 odd years since I was in Manchester but I have just come back from Spain and most of the Manchester people are there! no wonder it looked empty in your video! Thank you I enjoyed that...oh your pictures were good as usual...

Brilliant Mali, I do love seeing KZbinrs visiting Manchester rather than the usual stuff from London, I was out in Manchester up the other end near the Bridgewater Hall as I usually park at Central Library which turned out to be a good call as there were Graduation Ceremonies happening, easy pickings then.

Crackin' pictures Mali. And cohoooonas aplenty, it was like watching the northern English version of Casey Neistat! Fish finger butties, now we're talking. You worked well with those around you, and what is photography and KZbin if you can't experiment with style and ideas. So, it worked for me. I liked the Mancunian musical end too. The Substance Abuse picture too, very edgy. The one that has stayed with me in terms of the surprise. The eyes looking at you too from that picture... wooooh.

Don’t end it there 🙁 night life 😉 Manchester is a great place, attended numerous concerts at the arena and the people are great. How did you find people’s reaction to you photographing them and were you comfortable doing so ? I have generally found that most people are OK with it especially in a city environment, in smaller quieter places they tend to want to get out of your way thinking they are not the subject. A smiley face and a quick complementary comment normally breaks the ice with most people if they spot you photographing 😉 but it’s a fine line at times

Fish finger butty ... its been since my eldest was a nipper. She won't even eat fish now. I actually think street photography is the most difficult genre of photography because its near impossible to get anything original. The best I got last year was a man vociferously gesticulating with a banana in hand. Sometimes you just have to be lucky.
