Boeing's F-15EX Chief Test Pilot Comments Flying The Air Force's New Eagle In Its Maiden Flight.
“My cellphone was hot on Wednesday night - I got so many phone calls from guys who were excited about the new platform. In fact, one of the senior F-15EX pilots in the community who is stationed at Eglin and who is going to be receiving these first two airplanes called me.
“Doing a first flight is a highlight in a test pilot’s career - in fact, it's kind of the pinnacle in a career to do something like this, and although I’ve done a few first flights before, this by far surpasses anything I’ve ever done in my flight-test career.”
Regardless of personal firsts, the Air Force's new advanced Eagle is now a reality.

Not clear, are all the new 15's be two seat model. Or a mix with single seat only model. Two- why are they not using the GE 110-132 engines. Three- 20mm is great, but dealing with a J-20 or Su-27-37 or a bomber of some sort. A 25mm with a more reach and punch when dealing with close in hand action.

The F-15EX is a version of the F-15E which is only made as a two seater. But though the EX has provisions for a second seat it doesn’t have to fly with it occupied or even installed. Just a versatile capability if required. Not sure about the other points. Probably a money issue.

I can see you question on the engine. You would think the -132 would be the choice as it produces more thrust. More is not always better. That extra thrust would be top end, so either to get somewhere faster or get out faster. That means more fuel burning. I would imagine the EX could upgrade to the -132 if the USAF wanted to. Not sure how much $$ that would take, but imagine that was another reason for choosing the -129 is it is already used on the F-15SA and QA.
