The "95" is because the model was relaunched in 2013, the 95th anniversary of Pilot/Namiki.

Pilot Elite was never meant to be a pocket pen. It's length was perfect to fit in the shirt pocket during his first incarnation in 1970s Japan. Although small by today's standards, it is only half a centimetre shorter than most 1950s standard size pens.

Recently purchased this pen from Amazon, in a fine nib,listed at $150.00 Cdn. This is a beautiful pen and a change from the classic/ traditional pens offered in today’s market. Compared to my collection of high end pens, this is just as smooth, actually smoother than some of my fine nib pens that are 4 and 5 times the cost. For the price, you can’t go wrong buying this one. It takes a decent sized cartridge and came with what understand is a “con 20” or “ con 40”?? converter.

I happen to live in China. Due to the current difficulties in shipping from North America, I decided to look domestically rather than buying from my favorite overseas supplier. Wow, was I surprised! I bought this magnificent pen for the equivalent of $88, all-in (no additional shipping cost, no sales tax in China, and obviously no import duty for a domestic purchase). This pen was already a steal at $136 (Goulet Pens' current listed price), but at $88 it's an amazing deal. The moral of the story: come to China if you want to load up on Japanese pens for super-cheap!

Gee that's quite of a steal indeed. What about some other higher end pilot pens there (custom series, Urushi maybe)? Kinda curious about how far the prices drop.

Yes that makes sense. Pilot, Sailor and Platinum are cheaper in Japan. I will only be able to buy pens in Asian countries if I happen to be travelling there otherwise, I won't go to China or Japan just to buy pens. But yes, I will only buy Nakaya/Namiki/Urushi pens in Japan. It is worth the wait for +$1000 pens. For less than $500 pens, I will buy it locally or online.

advantage of buying locally from an official retailer is that you get a full warranty. if the nib isn't performing the way you like, you can get it adjusted for free (i think up to 2 times)

I really like Pilot pens (have quite a few) but alas, when I bought this one several years ago, it proved rather small for my (admittedly) large hands. Certainly, there was no way I could write with it unposted but even posted was pretty darn small. Fortunately, my oldest daughter has tiny hands so she's the happy user of this pen.

Yep. If you really want to find them you'll see scratches on the grip from the cap. These are not too obvious, though.

I wouldn't really say that maintenance of a gold nib is any different then a steel nib, but if you are used to using a more abrasive item to clean with (more abrasive than a paper towel lets say) then I would maybe stay away from that as gold is softer and is more prone to scratches.

One is not made anymore and for the life of me I can't remember the name of it (it is all metal including the nib) and the other is the Stargazer. I like all three but if I was forced to pick I would choose this one!

Hi, I have that exact same pen! I think the new CON-40 could fit in the E95s, but the minimal ink capacity of those things make me stick with the CON-20. By the way, I love your videos. Pens and tea, two of my favorite things!

+Invictus Tamaraw I don't know anyone with the Con-40 other then retailers so I didn't want to say for sure if it would or wouldn't fit. People seem to have a love/hate relationship with the Con-50. I don't mind it :) Thanks for loving my videos, I love making them!

Very unconventional design. I don’t have any pocket sized pens. And very few Pilot pens. This E95s looks very stylish, and the beautiful 14k inlaid nib adding greatly to the all round appeal to me. The price seems very fair, as well. If it’s still available, I will get it. I don’t even mind the squeeze converter. I have a few pens with that and they are just fine. I rarely post any of my pens, so being forced to post to use this pen comfortably with my large-ish hands is a let-down. And Kerry, your mention of the potential variance in the writing owing to the ink makes me wonder about my choice of ink for this pen. I’m thinking of Diamine Syrah.

Jerico Reyes seems like a Rhodia dot pad, all of their dot pads (and basically all their paper) is 80 gsm vellum coated paper
