Scrively, your reviews are among the best on KZbin!!! I'm thoroughly enjoying this review as I wait for my three metal Falcons to arrive. (I sold my resin Falcons to upgrade to have all 4 sizes & colors in metal. Can't wait!)

I like all pilot fountain pens... Most I like are Vanishing point and Falcon

Lovely review, very detailed. That merits a subscription, methinks. I'm trying to decide between this Pilot Falcon and the Custom Heritage 912 with the FA nib. I think the latter will have a little more flex, so I'm leaning more towards that pen. Reviews like this are definitely helping me make an informed decision.

Thanks very much for the kind words! Hope you find the right pen for you. Let me know how this goes :)

@@Scrivelynotes Well, you know how it goes. Since posting my comment, I've changed my mind about 869 times. I had decided to go with the 912 but after reading a few too many reviews by people complaining about the feed not being able to keep up when flexing the pen, I didn't think that was wise. Not everyone seems to have issues with it, but it is a bit of a crapshoot, and I'm not willing to take a chance on a 240€ pen that I'm buying online. I'd be different if I could try it out at a brick and mortar store, but sadly, I don't have any Pilot dealers in the vicinity. So after all that, I decided on the Pilot Custom 91 instead, with a soft nib. Then it took me forever to decide on the width of the nib, and I ended up picking the Fine Medium one. Seriously, I'm NEVER this indecisive. :D

@@darkchocolate4643 Hahaha, sure! Never indecisive, apart when it comes to pens, correct ;) ? Think you make a very good choice with the soft nib. If you really wanna have a flex, I think getting a vintage pen would be the best option anyways.

@@Scrivelynotes Yes, vintage pens are the best when it comes to flex. I have a 1944 Pelikan 100 with a CN nib that makes me want to sing every time I use it. Well, the Pilot 91 arrived today, and I have to say, it's INSTANT love. I'm so glad I went for the SFM nib, because it is perfection. The nib is not as smooth as I expected, and that is a good thing, because I don't like nibs that skate over paper. It has the right amount of feedback, you know what I mean? Can you tell I'm really, really pleased? :)

@@darkchocolate4643 I think I really need to try some of the vintage Pelikans. Pelikan is my favorite brand, but I 'only' have modern ones! Wow, that was a quick one with your Pilot. Arrived real fast. Yes, I know what you mean. I also really like my nibs to let me know I am writing on a page. Dont like the 'warm butter on glass' kind of writing experience. Bet you might also really like Sailor nibs (though they are not flexy at all)!

That's a seriously nice pen, Michael; I particularly like the soft grade nib selection, & the finish on the example shown is very sleek looking; that said, I'd prefer the resin model, but I'd upgrade the converter to a con70, which I believe will fit inside the barrel; lovely, clean lines. Very nice, indeed. Thank you, once again for an excellent review :)

Andrew Tongue I also really love everything about this pen. Such a stunner. Enjoy the weight of the metal version very much.

Fellow lefty, which pen would likely match best with an overwriters grip? Falcon, Vanishing point or l2000?
@Scrivelynotes
@Scrivelynotes 3 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, to be honest, if you are a hardcore overwriter, I think none of those nibs will serve you very well, as they are all rather small and/or sensitive to pressure and angeling. You would be much better off with a rather robust steel nib with a larger rounder tip. To mind comes a Waterman Hemisphere, a Diplomat Excellence, any Lamy pen with the Z50 nib type (or the one on the newer Aion), any Faber-Castell, etc. There is more, but this should be a good initial list. All of those I would recommend in a Medium nib size.

Can I use this as a daily writer, is it reliable for that? I am not too interested about flex, I just like how this pen looks and also the dimensions feel pretty ergonomic.. Is this pen picky about inks or paper?
@Scrivelynotes
@Scrivelynotes 5 жыл бұрын
ARUNABHA LAHIRI the pen I reviewed there is totally usable as an everyday writer. Not picky about inks or paper at all. One of the most versatile nibs I have used so far.

@@Scrivelynotes I am not too worried about wetness. In India you can get pretty decent paper for a pretty reasonable price. Thank you for the clarification. I have been thinking of ordering one for quite a while...

I really want this pen :) I said to myself I was going to limit myself to about 2 pens for brand because I cannot afford to buy a huge selection of pens, and I already have the 74 and the Decimo. But this one is tempting :)

How has the Falcon been regarding railroading - any problems with that? You didn't seem to have that issue in the video, so I thought I'd ask.

Most welcome. I have not had any railroading issues - but then I also don't push the nib beyond the comfort zone that I have shown in the vid

It seems to me that this nib makes this pen a grail pen, especially if you are a businessman looking for all day comfortable writing. How does it compare to the Faber-Castell fine?
@Scrivelynotes
@Scrivelynotes 5 жыл бұрын
Grail pen is always very subjective, I think. There are very many pens that would perform excellent in a business context (also, question would always be what it is one is looking for - status? Maybe a Montblanc. Practicability? Maybe a Pilot Capless. Mutedness? Maybe a Lamy 2k). The Falcon fine is finer than the steel FC fine.

The resin Falcon is the lightest pen I own. I think the metal looks really sleek, but it's gotta be as heavy as the metropolitan and I find heavy pens just make my hand hurt because I end up gripping harder. It is a lovely nib tho if you have a light hand. Very wet, but the SEF will feel scratchy if you press too much. I wouldn't go crazy using the backside like a brush, as the fiber of the paper is enough to make scratches on your nib. Not damaging, just less pretty. In anycase, the angle you're looking for is just getting the beather hole in contact with the paper.

is it weird that i wish the nib was firm? it looks durable and strong, but the flex corrupts that intense presence.
