Pilot Reacts to Battlefield 3 Fighter Jet Mission

David Gregor, U.S. Navy Pilot, is back with us in this episode of Experts React and will be reacting to the gameplay of Battlefield 3.
Battlefield 3 is a first-person shooter video game developed by EA DICE and published by Electronic Arts. It is a direct sequel to 2005's Battlefield 2, and the eleventh installment in the Battlefield franchise. The game was released in North America on 25 October 2011 and in Europe on 28 October 2011 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.
Battlefield 3's Campaign story is set during the fictional "War of 2014" and covers events that occur over nine months. Most of the story takes place in the Iran-Iraq region. Other locations include the Iranian-Azerbaijani border, Paris, and New York City. Most missions occur as flashbacks on the part of the interrogation of Sergeant Henry Blackburn and do not occur in order of events.
The two jets climb into the cloud layer, experiencing minor turbulence but breakthrough above the cloud cover. However, 4-2 notices a radar contact, several miles out, without an IFF tone signaling they were friendly.
Suddenly, two Iranian Su-35S fly past, firing cannon rounds toward the US jets. 4-2 and 4-6 break formation, with 4-6 going for one of the Iranian jets that had broken right, whereas 4-2 went for the one on the left. However, the Sukhoi that 4-6 was hunting down pulled off a Pugachev's Cobra, managing to get behind 4-6 and starting its pursuit.

I like this type of sequence-breaking mission, but still being outstanding .. like "Black Cats" and the tank missions, infiltration missions in the old Medal of Honor and sniper and helicopter in the new MoH ..

To be honest the mission was cool but it would of been so much better if you actually got to fly the F-18 in the campaign instead of just being in the back seat.

And as an adult, I now realize how stupid it actually is that they actually made a jet mission and made you the co-pilot instead of the pilot, effectively turning the whole thing into a glorified turret section.

I remember playing this when I was younger and thinking it was the most realistic thing I’d ever seen flight wise, and i loved planes. I used to show my parents and mates and play it over and over for that sweet intro. Fasten forward to nowadays I’ve been playing dcs for 3 years and I can’t bear watching it 😂

I imagine its more effective to have 2 people in an aircraft one focusing on positioning and evading enemy fighters while the other has full focus on using the weapons to their fullest potential I have no experience whatsoever but its like driving a car and shooting I suppose kind of a pain doing 3-4 things at once that take up every limb on your body

Depends on who's in the back seat. A good WSO is a fantastic force multiplier, a bad one is dead weight and a distraction at the best of times

@@firestorm165you could say the same vice versa, that’s the bad part about two seater fighters. If they don’t have good chemistry then it would just be better to have the pilot. Same can’t be said about other aircraft’s that require backseaters like the tomcat or growlers.

I browsed a lot of forums and It seems in general pilots prefer to be on their own, so every mistake and victory is theirs. But pilots who have experience with two seaters seem to like it and prefer it.

This mission was an incredible spectacle but it will forever piss me off that they didn't actually let you fly like in multiplayer. The wasted potential hurts my soul. DICE really are experts in that matter as recent years have shown

It is indeed stationary in the game. Like you can replay the mission by yourself and see that it doesn’t rotate nor follows your aim at all haha. Not sure why that was even mentioned in the video, even though you can clearly see it! You were more than good enough to complete the game don’t worry about it!

This was the last BF game I played. Then I moved on w/ my life from vijayo games, at least until DOOM'16 and Cyberpunk2077, and then the blue-moon firing up of Counter-Strike Source just to re-assure myself that I still got them headshotty skillz. I'm glad BF3 is the game they covered on here.

If i remember correctly in this game you could fire the gun as a wso, but the plane was shooting like the real one, towards where the nose of the plane was pointing. So it was very strange that you can aim with the helmet, but the plane wasnt shooting where you were aiming. Also the scenes were scripted, if you played again and again the planes were doing the exact same thing, and i dont remember that they were crossing your nose that much, so it was pointless to shoot the gun. It was very confusing why you could use the gun.
