Flying jets is a risk laden endeavor. It's only safe because engineers, dispatchers, mechanics, pilots, load planners etc. make sure it's as safe as can be. The loss of an engine at the most critical time in a takeoff run, at max allowable weight, is a situation that must succeed. Success in the event of a failure is the moto.

If you have a bird strike or mechanical in one engine after a specific speed, called V1, you have to take off. It’s calculated each time based on a bunch of factors like the length of the runway, the density altitude, wind, weight, etc.

If you just have enough runway, you can!
@jonofoote83532 жыл бұрын
That is why you are subject to weight limits on aircraft, the take off weight is the weight it can take off with the failure of the critical engine at the critical moment which is usually around rotation. This depends on air density (temperature and pressure) and runway available and the climb path available airborne.

Regulations require airliners to be able to takeoff with one engine after V1 speed and to meet minimum climb gradients. Note when one of two engines fails you lose 50% of your power but you lose more than 50% of your climb performance.
@cbthecollector Жыл бұрын
Every single airliner can take off with one engine. Every single time we run the numbers for a take off, it’s worst case, that we lose an engine after calling V1. Every time you see an aircraft rolling on the runway, it’s because those numbers have been crunched and it’s capable of departing on a single engine and still climbing over any obstacles.

This is normal testing. Most dangerous time to have an engine failure is during takeoff phase. If the plane passes V1 , procedure is to continue takeoff on one engine, because there is not enough runway left to safely abort the takeoff. Once airplane achieves 400ft alt. The pilot can assess situation. If an engine fails before V1, procedure is to abort takeoff, because there is enough runway left to safely bring airplane to a stop.

I don't quite get the first video. When the engine is running it will cause the plane to yaw. Here we have the right engine producing thrust thus making the plane yaw to the left. Shouldn't then the rudder be deflected to the right to counteract the yaw? Because here they turn it to the left. 🤔
