Hi Laurie. I've been following you for several years. Your tips are so helpful. I have a travel tip I've discovered. At 75 years old, I can no longer lift my bag into the overhead. I am very short so that adds to the problem. I now travel with 2 underseat bags. One goes into the overhead the other under the seat. I have had success packing all I need into them with no problem. I’ve watched your videos several times and for at least 3-4 years I’ve said to myself “why does she look so familiar” outside of this video. I didn’t put it together until our babies graduated Monday from the same school (5/22/23) or at least I think they did anyway. The problem is always weight! At least in Europe, carry-on is usually limited to 8 kg, sometimes 12 kg combined with personal item. Hence it is difficult to travel for less the one week with just carry-on.

I had that exact same problem when we went on a two week cruise to Australia and New Zealand. Air New Zealand had very restricted weight and size restrictions. I was able to find a rolling duffel by Kensie that was extremely light weight and met the size requirements. I was able to get about 4 to 5 outfits plus all my other necessities in that bag. This way if my larger luggage got lost in our three week trip I had a core wardrobe that could be used because I had access to laundry on the ship and some of the hotels. After that I bought a international carry-on as we had planned to do more traveling before Covid hit. The international bag also limits the size and the amount you can put in. I was able to do a nine day trip to Canada with the international bag and a personal bag with washing once during the trip. Safe travels!

For us in Australia it’s usually 7kg and a small personal item bag that doesn’t count. Though the personal item bag is very specific about what counts vs what counts towards your 7kg.

Most of the U.K’s and European - budget airlines are now going by the size and weight of all the luggage. Only one small bag is the free allowance is for any economy seated passenger(45x36x20cm ). No allowance for any additional carrying on. You’ll have to pay for the privilege as carry on, or book a extra legroom or upfront passenger seat you can then take up to a maximum size of (56x45x25cm)needs to be placed in the overhead bins along with the usual small bag allowance. If you have a lot of luggage or they are over the carry on maximum size it will have to be checked as hold luggage and paid. But this does varies depending on the airline so please check beforehand of booking flights.

so, what I am getting from this is the system is more about getting people to have a method for packing instead of just throwing random things randomly, than about a specific method being better. the idea of selecting things for the most important parts of the trip, first, is good though. it's something I normally do. another thing I do, is I like to pull out ALL the things I'm going to be packing before I even start to pack. then I can organize the things that are the most limited in where they can fit, first, but it is easy to wedge something into a space it will fit perfectly in. the slogan I came up with, years ago, is "they have plenty of air where you're going. you don't need to bring your own."

I have compression cubes. It will be my first time using them on our flight to the states. I like having things organised to stop myself forgetting multiple things. For my packing cubes, I already decided that I would pack entire outfits in the cubes and have one cube just for my running clothes. It will hopefully make it less stressful as I can just pick out an entire outfit without having to go through my entire bag to find everything. I'll be flying on American Airline and the carry-on weight limit is 18kg or 40lbs.

Hi Laurie, I have that same toiletrie pink bag. i love it!!! Perfect inside my Monos carry on. I use my Vera Bradley Travel Quilted bag as my personal bag which contains my packing cubes as well. It's amazing how much I can fit in a cube and the zippers are so strong and compress everything to such a smaller size! I think I'm going to get the toiletry set now too! I agree with other comments about the weight issue. I need to practice packing light for an upcoming trip to Europe where I want to only use a carryon. I like the idea of the packing method according to most important outfits so I will give that a try for the next trip. ✈🙂

That looks like it was such a fun trip! Wonderful to have such good friends. I love the Tripped compression cubes, and this is a great method to pack. For toiletries, etc. I am addicted to collecting Vera Bradley bags and all the little organizers that match each bag, so those pouches are what I use for toiletries, emergency kit, first aid kit, sundries, and "junk drawer". Darn it, I already own two plastic tote crates of packing stuff, and now Tripped comes out with a whole new set of packing cubes?! I already own the travel theme, the parks theme, pink to go with my Vera Bradley Prairie Paisley weekender, and blue to go with my Vera Bradley Turtle Dreams , and now I need to get all these great global ones?!?! Geeze Louise, how many travel sets can one gal own?!😂 Oh, for laundry, I hand wash the day's top and unmentionables in the hotel sink every night and hang to dry overnight, so I am not going home with much laundry at all.

Hi Debra, TSA follows the 3-1-1 rule for liquids in a carry-on: 3.4oz bottles or less All bottles need to be in a 1 quart-sized clear bag Only 1 quart-sized bag per person
