The Standard Instrument Departures (SIDs ) are IFR routes that the Pilot has to follow depending on which direction he needs to fly after the take-off.
By the end of this video, you will be able to read a SID chart.
The final goal of the Standard Instrument Departure is to allow the Pilots to climb from the Airport to the cruise Altitude staying clear of terrain.
The SID takes the name from the waypoint that connects the departure to the en-route phase.
There are Altitude and speed restrictions along the Standard Instrument Departure that the Pilot needs to comply with.
These restrictions are in place in order to make sure that the departure route is clear of obstacles.
This is how the Pilots can safely operate when the visibility is low.

Thank you for all videos you share ! They are very helpful ! The standard climb gradient for a SID is 3,3%…right ? Meanwhile, the minimum required for a two engine aircraft is 2,4% ! does this mean that the minimum required for twin engine, or even for engine aircraft are below the standard minimum required for SIDS..? Thank you

Hey, thanks for watching and the comment! Great question! The 2.4% is a minimum climb gradient with one engine Inoperative. So the Aircraft should be able to provide 2.4% with One engine inop. If an engine fails during the initial climb you won't follow the SID because its minimum climb gradient may exceed the 2.4%. Let me know if I answered your question. Have a great day!

Hey, thanks for watching!! The code after the SID name identifies the SID itself, for example, in the video, there are 2 ROXER SIDs so, you will use the code to identify which one you have to fly. Also, the codes after a specific sid name get updated every time the Authorities make a change to that specific SID. Let me know if you have more questions👍
