Piloting the EUROPEAN BAC 1-11 (2001)

In 2000 JustPlanes was lucky to spend a week with EUROPEAN AIR CHARTER and feature their Bac 1-11 and Boeing 737-200 on 10 flights across Europe! On this short video you get some scenes of the preparations and takeoff from Bournemouth, the main base of the airline.

Philippine Airlines had BAC-111s of different series (-100s to -500s) from the mid-1960s to the late 1980s serving mostly domestic destinations and some neighboring Asian cities. This was the first jet type of aircraft I flew in.

A lot of Bac 1-11 ended up in Nigeria under Okada Air a private airline in the 80’s to 90’s. I flew a number of times in these reliable aircraft.

I flew to Portugal on one of them many moons ago and im sure they were louder than Concord taking off and they only had two little engines at the back, but what great engines.

I flew on a Braniff BAC 1-11 in 1989, looked at the window shade and it was a DC-9 shade. I got a chuckle.

That was captain John Belson, he was at the wheel when I was fortunate enough to be on one of the last 1-11 flight's out of Luton.

The World According To Dan yes he did ! And ironically I was on one of the final 1_11 flights out Luton, and captain Belson was the captain of the day, and very thorough he was too !
