Apple's Mac Pro released to much fanfare. Finally, Apple users could return to a classic tower PC with PCIe expansion, easy CPU/GPU upgradability, and more. But at a starting price of $6,000, it definitely isn't perfect. In this video, we 3D print some DIY wheels that (a) don't cost $400, but, (b) have the ability to actually lock in place so your computer doesn't roll away. Rather than spend $400 on the Pegasus J2i, we built our own cage and soldered a custom cable since it can't be purchased separately. Then, we added RGB LED into our Mac making it the first PRO GAMER MAC ever and it increased our FPS by over 50%-now we get like 15FPS in most AAA titles. Lastly, we took a FREAKING CIRCULAR SAW to Mac Pro's chassis to fix our biggest annoyance and design frustration. This video is a fun one. Buckle up!

My apologies about the audio on this one. It's a bit rough in places. We used new lavalier mics (which are awesome) but had to use an old transmitter because our new ones were having battery issues and got more shirt rub than expected because of normalized gain. We promise this will be fixed by the next video. If it's too annoying, maybe this is one to watch through your smartphone or laptop speakers instead of hi-fi headphones. 😉 Sorry once again. - Quinn

But computers in corporate environments are usually pretty unloved anyway. So nobody cares if they accidentally kick it because it's placed on the floor under their desk so wheels are ideal. My PC weighs a ridiculous amount (and will be even heavier once I finish the custom loop watercooling) but it doesn't need wheels because it is on my desk and I have to lift it anyway even if it did have wheels.

Yup, longer prongs are designed to crimp through the insulation, this is the main strength for holding the wire to the connector. Something that’s pretty fascinating to me about the Mac Pro connector/cover discourse is that video people claim that it’s a problem for music people, and music people claim it’s a problem for video people, but both groups mostly say it’s not a problem for themselves. I have to wonder about the musicians who constantly have to swap out cards. I know some folks have pretty fancy high-end DSP boxes and so on but these days most stuff runs on CPU and GPU, and for ages my own studio setup has all been contained to an external audio interface. The only plugs I’ve had to deal with in the past decade are FireWire or USB - everything else is connected to those external devices. These days I run my entire studio from an iMac, and previously was on a 2013 Mac Pro and a Mac mini before that. CPU and hard drive bandwidth have been the only things I’ve needed to upgrade for. I haven’t had to go down the ADAT route just yet but even if I did, that’d be handled by the external audio interface. So, what am I missing?

I loved and miss my old Power Mac G3-G4 design. You just opened a latch (like on the top of the new Mac Pro, but without rotating,) and folded the side of the case down. Computer was running the whole time. All the cables were routed to pass right next to the hinge, so everything was readily accessible with the side open.

About the crimping: You should put the connector in the tool beforehand, squeeze a little so it takes the right shape and then insert your wire.

I literally just bought that exact crimper and intended to look up how it works. I didn't think this video would show when I clicked it. Thanks for saving me time.

you should still look it up. because that was totally wrong. he used the wrong hole to crimp and you only crimp one time in the right hole and to the orientation that fit the flares in the crimper. and the strain relief is not even on the wire insulation. there is 2 sets of wings on the terminal one for the wire and the other for the insulation as strain relief. and as a side note you should not twist the wires in these kind of terminals, thats is a rookie mistake. Best regards and to you @Snazzy Labs

Oh just admit you should have gotten the rack mount one. Solves all problems. And allows you to pick a nice rack for under/beside your desk or closet. Or slap some rails on a cheap ikea cabinet. I’ve wanted to rack mount my old Mac Pro towers for years but was always too afraid to chop off the handles.

Hi, great video. Silly question is there no space on the bottom base plate to drill a hole to bring in the power cable ?

Quinn, I cannot think of anyone else that is trying to make their Mac Pro as awesome as you do. And LEDS? Stiletto wheels?? Cutting the cover off??? Dude you get thumbs up for these efforts. Also for making this into one long video instead of 3 or 4 short videos you get another 4 thumbs up. Thank you ami.

You're crazy man! But well worth it in the spirit of PC making geek tradition. An alternative to try if we just wanted to see if it should still run while the case is off is to turn it on while the case is off. But yes, the advantages to this easy open and close design can't be left unsaid!

I am listening to this on a Sony STR-DH520 &.1 Surround Sound Receiver* (Reciever is an Amplifier and FM/AM receiver in one (so like a 2-in-one thing)) with a SOny SS-V99av Surround Channel as the Centre Channel and a pair of Panasonic SH-CB73 speakers for the front L/R Channels *I am using an HDMI lead from my Nvidia GTX950 2GB GPU (i know its a bad GPU but, I like it!) then another HDMI cable going from the amplifier to my Veon 24" TV.

@13:30 Yesssss, I found this video specifically looking to find someone who did the right think and sawed their MP2019 case off! That extra nub in the bottom, that forces the user to disconnect all cables to diagnose their machine, is possibly the dumbest thing about this slick workstation's design. I really missed a shot of the back though! Seeing what it looks like now, and sliding it on and off.

Funny part is that most of the people who buy the Mac Pro are not the kind of people who would DIY. But Quinn is kind of a guy who would do it anyway for the sake of our curiosity. Thumbs up to you
