MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!
You may have been wondering where we've been for the last 2 weeks... Well, Walker just got back from a trip to Ireland and we've been incredibly busy around here! Tay had a very unique project come through the doors at Lift Arc.
The Blacksburg Rescue Squad reached out to have us modify their Polaris UTV. And wouldn't you know it, the client just so happens to be someone affectionately nicknamed "Santa". Tay having made several roll cages for cars in the past, took on the challenge and put his fabrication skills to the limit.
Let us know what you think in the comments!
Thanks for watching!

cant blame you for being distracted, i use a miller 235 at work everyday, I always want to talk about welders and welding.

Jake and I both have the Miller 220 MIG/TIG/stick. I selfishly hoped for more discussion but recognize it was not the right priority in the push to meet a deadline. My 220 is my first welder. I picked it up in the spring. I have a world of learning to do with it. I have mostly mastered making porous joints with excessive filler. At least, I am burning fewer holes as I repair fence-panel thin-wall tube joints that over years did not stand up to goat horns during rut.

Hope you added some rubber or similar to stop the galvanic corrosion between aluminum and steel. Nice work on the cage though. LOOKS GREAT!

McMaster-Carr is great for just about everything with reasonable pricing, excellent variety and availability but for SS hardware, you should check out Albany County Fasteners.

Awesome project. Thanks for the 360 tips, not drawn out or boring. Don't forget to seal the bolts that hold the cage to the aluminum on the left (drives) side to keep water out of the storage bins. Ask Tom if they would like a large dome light or 2 above the Ferno basket to be able to see the patient at night. Was glad to see you put the expanded metal instead of the solid metal on the sides, eliminating a blind spot for the driver.

I •love• this project. The near outcome depicts the essence of practical beauty, but I feel like I read a great novel with the last pages torn out. I really wanted to see the final. I would also like to know if that top panel had diamonds or solid for protection from rain or the beating sun. Might the rescue crew get a waterproof cover sewn to store in the shop until inclement days?

it pains me that your diamond pattern tutorial is slanted slightly to the left! lol (You can tell looking at the half triangles on the left and right side as they grow/shrink towards the top/bottom. It made it into the final build too! lol (The panel with the light cutout on the top right). Still looks great! Awesome video!! Merry Christmas. Keep up the good work.

The only thing I would have done different would be put connector blocks on all the wire Hanesses To make it easy to take off

would it have been possible to have drawn the roll cage hoops on the program for the plasma table and placed a sheet of plywood on the plasma table and then fitted a permanent marker on the head instead of the plasma cutter and drawn the roll bars on the ply?

Thanks for the fusion 360 tip on doing that repeated lattice design. I’ve only got a little over a month under my belt on fusion and that was certainly helpful.

Really enjoy this format better than short clips. Love seeing tips and tricks you discover along the way. Always learn something from your videos!! How do you go about quoting something like this? (Meaning doing a project/process you aren't supper experienced with, but have the skills to do with some trial and error involved)

Looks great, figuring out main hoops is always a challenge. It could do with cross bracing to make it safer on a roll over but it's pretty much impossible to incorporate it. Also another tip for fusion, join both body's together into a single body and make the DXF after that to get rid of any extra lines, dont ask me how I know (messed up before with cutting those extra lines😂😂)

Also, mirroring bends on separate planes that have to connect and “play nice” together can be very complex from a design standpoint. Yours turned out really well! 31:34

I gotta tell you the truth, I was ready to unsubscribe. Making weapons or trivial crap did not interest me at all. But, explaining the drawings and taking us through your thinking process and the fabrication is why I think people are interested in your channel in the first place. MORE CONTENT LIKE THIS EPISODE. PLEASE!
