There is also a beveled tooth on the crankshaft that lines up with the #7 main cap when the motor is at TDC. I would rather this mark determine TDC when the rear of the engine is open.

After that engine is timed, do you still have to turn the crank pulley two revolutions clockwise and match the mark up with each other on the pulley and the block in order to get the engine at TDC @ cylinder #1? The reason I'm asking is because my engine was just professionally rebuilt and I'm getting a crank no start/ no spark issue it's really annoying!

Is this a afp motor or AAA motor? Also would the timing be the same for both?

Hey Al ik this is not the video for this but i wanted to ask you a question, and thank you. I watched your videos years ago when I was 16 and got my first audi 1.8 for 500$. Your videos encouraged me to work on my car and made me fall im love with it. Now my question, I got a 2.8 but one of the cams doesn’t line up horizontally with the other. Can i just use the cam timing bar to turn the cam into place or should i remove both cams from that bank and retime the cams.
@PincheALsGarage Жыл бұрын
You need a cam locking tool. Then you should be able to set timing correctly.
@adriang9238 Жыл бұрын
The cam on bank 1 is slightly off maybe at 45 degree angle. Bank 2 cam and crank are timed correctly. Car did start and run but was obviously missing on all 3 cylinders on bank 1. I asked the previous owner if he did the timing and he said no, so I’m confused how only one cam moved. Timing belt tension is good, so either he snapped it and put on a new one to sell, or the cam chain tensioner is going out.

@@adriang9238 ok wait is this question for a 1.8 or 2.8
@adriang9238 Жыл бұрын
Thank you man. I have a cam locking tool on the way. My question really is can i use it to move the cam slightly with the head still bolted to the car or am i going to bend valves. I’ll check what the bentley manual says!!

how much of a head spacer is installed ?
@PincheALsGarage5 ай бұрын
Pretty ez
@vrtxs193811 ай бұрын
So your not forged ? Just a head spacer ?
@PincheALsGarage11 ай бұрын
Correct. No need to be forged unless your trying to go over 400+ hp
@PincheALsGarage11 ай бұрын
You just need forged hardware, upgraded valve train and cams
@vrtxs193811 ай бұрын
@@PincheALsGarage thanks for answer bro im trying to be around 400 maybe perhaps 400-450 so in my case it would be safer to go forged ?
@PincheALsGarage11 ай бұрын
@@vrtxs1938 correct it would be safer to have forged internals if you plan on going higher in HP
