Another way to save, if you like red in your Christmas decor, is to buy solid red items or generic patterns (polka dots, stripes, etc) instead of Christmas specific designs. These can then be used not only at Christmas, but also for Valentines Day, 4th of July, etc. I do the same thing with clothing. I don’t have any holiday specific clothes, but do have solid red and green sweaters that I can add a holiday pin or scarf to for Christmas. Then they work equally well for Valentine’s or St Patrick’s Days.

I'm very traditional so I use the same things every year. I may place them in different places around the house but I seldom buy new decor. I look forward every year to getting all my pretties out again. I hope I'll be able to decorate till my time to go to heaven comes.

One way that I used to save money on Christmas decor when my kids were little (and I had no money) was to make gingerbread people to use as Christmas tree ornaments. My kids and I would spend an entire weekend making and decorating the cookies. We made a hole at the top of each cookie before we baked them and used twine to hang the gingerbread people on the tree. So cute and cheap! It always made the house smell good too! I now have quite the collection of gingerbread cookie cutters and use those in a jar as decor. Also, so cute!!

I save by shopping year around at thrift and garage sale for Christmas deco. But another great tip to add color to upper cupboard, hutch or even a table, corner. Is to wrap any box you find in wrapping paper that matches you deco and arrange these fake gifts to add a festive holiday touch, instant deco that didn’t cost much at all

I was so hoping you’d do a video like this! Love all the inspiration. Your home is lovely at Christmas! One time I scored boxes and boxes of garland for a few dollars at a children’s boutique store that was going out of business. That has been my main staple for years now! I also have bought boxes of lights for pennies at hardware stores on New Year’s Day sales! Another thing I’ve done to make my stuff look cohesive and not buy”new” is to faux flock my trees. It gave them a soft neutral look. I’ve also been able to find gold ornaments at the $ store which are a great neutral for Christmas. And lastly, I’ve tried to take the hand me downs from my grandmothers. I have a nativity set that’s was spray painted gold, that my grandma made entirely from trash. It sounds strange but it’s so lovely! She had 8 kids and lived through the depression. I treasure that nativity and also her thrifty mindset that it taught me!

Yes, my favorite tip you gave is to use everyday decor than add touches of the season. I also read somewhere that’s a very “European” way of design and being someone that pulls French farmhouse in style it just works. My biggest tip is to decorate more for the season vrs just for the holiday that way your decorations have slightly more longevity and you aren’t putting up a ton of Christmas just to remove it and transition into winter.

I made "Victorian" burgundy/green velvet Christmas skirt and stockings years ago, and it has always been the centerpiece for a vintage looking Christmas. Adding greenery, ribbons, flowers, and berries helps me freshen the look on different years. This year I dried hydrangeas, and look forward to using them.

The biggest way I save is to wait for the after Christmas sales. I would love to know how you created and attach the swag to your round mirror. Your home is always an inspiration but especially so at Christmas. Oh, and I agree about the holiday dishware, but at my age (older than your mom) more so the space to store it and the effort to unpack it.

I know I have said it a lot Andrea but you have a cozy adorable beautiful home. you have the gift of decorating. I like to do different things to my home. I am finding that Primitive /Farmhouse is my style and a tad eclectic mixed in through some floral pictures. I like to see how others have done things in their homes. Your white creamers near your fireplace has caused me to like white dishes and creamers. I have thrifted some. Also your cutting boards in the rack in your kitchen I have taken a liking for cutting boards. So I have got some inspiring ideas from you. Thank you. I am glad i found your channel. High quality fabric ribbon with a selvage can be reused year after year. It holds up great. To “iron” it run it through a curling iron. I have grosgrain ribbon that I’ve used on my foyer garland for 20 years or more and a woven red plaid ribbon I’ve tied to dining room chandelier garland for over 30 years! Occasionally I’ll hand wash it and re-trim the ends. But it lasts a long time if you get a high quality (I like Offray brand) non-wired ribbon for tying around garlands. I use the wired verse for bows on artificial wreaths and leave them on year after year, just refluffing and shaping the bows each year when I put them up.

Yes, go shopping and am so overwhelmed with all the products on the shelves. I just pick up a bit here and there every year and transition it in with what I already have. I believe that less is more.,I decorate and there is plenty up there but I am learning how to decorate, but gracefully. I also do a lot of crafts so I enjoy making things too. I love the idea of using material strips for ribbon. Have some nice green and white striped material I might use some of that for ribbons. I like a lot of greenery too. It is rather expensive. I go around to all different stores and buy bits here and there and I also add a bit of real greens here and there. Love the smell. I go to garage sales all year long, and pick up holiday items all year long, it is a nice surprise when I pull something out I bought in the springtime and packed away.

Great ideas. We bought a new house and I needed to buy more decorations. I ended up making a all natural tree in the dining room. Just used dried oranges and cinnamon sticks. I bought some wildlife ornaments off amazon. Grabbed some branches from my woods and acorns. You can make anything you like really. I think it was a nice change. The other 2 trees are regular decor , but this one was the most fun.

Great tips! Loved the idea of usiing fabric strips for bows or ties. I hung a real evergreen garland on both of our window boxes yesterday. We live in the country so wind is always a factor when decorating. I'm going to get some red or checked fabric to tear into strips and attach ties rather than bows to the greenery. I love the all natural look but it needed a pop of color. 😉

You have some great pieces in your home. I love your decorating style. We have some great pine, cedar trees along with juniper bushes and holly bushes, I love using real greenery where I can. I just worry about it drying out to fast and the sap that comes with pine is sticky (any oil like olive oil helps to get the sap off hands). I have used a tablecloth as a tree skirt when ours went missing.

I do the same thing with ribbon! I love the icicle look of it. I also take a piece of lace and run a piece of thread through it to gather it and make it into a tiny wreath and fit it over the tops of my Christmas balls for the tree, they look like they have a beautiful lace collar then I ad a ribbon bow and a beautiful button to the middle of the bow to add reflection. It’s funny how much a simple Christmas ornament can change with a pretty collar. ❤️❤️

I always buy thrift, yard sale or clearance. Building every year to my stash. I would recommend never buying trendy items, after awhile it looks dated anyway. I like building on the traditional colors with some burgundy and pink thrown in. I look forward to some day dividing my Christmas stuff and giving my son half. He adores Christmas and vintage antique items and I always point out things from his grandparents etc that he will get when he gets his own home. I've taught him to appreciate pre-loved items and he loves the hunt at thrift stores. My mother never thrifted until she was in her seventies, she always thought everything would be junk. She's gone with me a couple times and is shocked at how many new and valuable items I find. I have a gorgeous real holly leaf ornament that has been dipped in silver and is very heavy that I found at the thrift store along with many other beautiful items. I've even found solid sterling silverware and a gold women's watch clock necklace that's a hundred years old for fourteen dollars.

Good morning! These ideas were all so simple yet lovely. I especially love the fabric strips idea. It's always nice to add a few new pieces each year if you know exactly how you're going to use them, not to just add more decor for decor's sake. I love to look for antique ornaments throughout the year, especially at garage sales and estate sales in the summer. You can really get some incredible pieces for incredible prices. Your home is always so lovely, my friend. I can't wait to see how you decorate this year. Smiles and best wishes to your family. Blessings - Judith 🎵🎭

In the '60's my Depression mindset (and budget) grandmother pulled out cheap pressed glass pieces she didn't like or use and attack them with silver spray paint and glitter. Some might be lined with a little cloth and cookies. Others might hold dime store candles or misc ornaments (left after breakage - oops - by the grandkids). Sweet gum balls might get painted pink with silver glitter and display in a bowl.

You can save a lot of money by abandoning the notion that you must have a new theme or colour every year. I have used the same traditional red and green (with splashes of gold, silver or white) decor scheme for decades. I retire pieces as they get worn or refresh with new items as the opportunity arises.

I've been decorating for 40 years. I seem to do the same trees with little changes. What I don't use I put back because I seem to use it a different year. This way I rarely spend money buying decorations from big box stores anymore. I have boughten vintage glass ornaments from estate sales or garage sales. They are way too expensive at antique stores. They are fragile and will break when decorating the tree.

I would never pay a cent for a cedar garland! Cedar trees grow like weeds here in Mo ! So guess what I bought a pine needle garland for twenty dollars a few years ago . I do like your idea of using picks to fill it .

Love your decor as well as your home it is beautiful, warm, and cozy. ..I would like to ask where you found your Santa mold that was in your Christmas decor. I have a lamb, and rabbits I purchased at Micheal's craft store. I think they look gorgeous displayed in and around your home. So, enjoy all the info you share with your KZbin viewer's thank you for the info on greenery. I went to Hobby Lobby but, got there to late...The natural greenery was gone. So, the info you shared was a big help...Thank you and have a blessed and fabulous holiday season😊❤🎄😊🎄❤😊

I love fresh garland and live in a greenbelt, so it's very accessible, however, the dropping needles indoors make such a mess. Right? I prefer the vintage Christmas look too. Your bathroom wreath is simple yet gorgeous.

Cedar actually isn't too bad for that, but yes, it is more cleanup than faux, the smell and look can't be beat though!

Thank you so much for the beautiful Christmas inspiration you’ve provided over the years. I always look forward to your holiday decorating videos and last year you inspired me to create a garland from the pages of a vintage hymnal. Probably my favorite decor item I have ever made! My question is how do you keep your greenery looking healthy through the holidays? Mine are so crispy and dry by the time Christmas comes that I wonder if I’m missing something. 🥴🙈

I soak mine before I decorate with it, if you cut and crush the stem and soak it over night, it's even better. It will absorb a lot of water and last longer. They also make products that help a lot, but I haven't tried those yet.

How did you finish the sideboard table in your dining room? Actually, I believe it was your Grandfather's dresser. I read that you sanded it down. Just wondering if you bleached it, added a wax coat, or a top coat to protect it. I absolutely love the finish!!!

@@PineandProspectHome Walmart has really upped their game on Christmas garland. I've bought that the last couple of years for outside of my new house. I just ordered a strand of cedar from Creative Co-op for inside. It was super expensive but other the stuff from that brand has been really nice quality so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will be nice and I will be able to match it next year. :)

Good ideas. Appreciate your thrift approach. You home is always lovely. A comment on the audio: it is not synced with the video and make it hard to watch and listen. Disjointed. Played it twice, muted to watch, a second time to listen. Blessings.
