Hey friends! Every year when I share my home all decorated for Christmas, I get a lot of questions about how I hid wires and hung greenery.
I thought I would finally sit down and write a blog post about this topic, especially since it took some time for me to figure all of this out. Hopefully it will be a help to many of you!

It’s called a forstner bit..lol!! There are a lot of words that make no sense, that’s why the word doesn’t come to you. I loved that last hint for the tree. I have artificial trees that set pretty high in the stand and it would look crazy to put a lot of blankets around it to cover it up. I love the bucket you have your tree in! Great video! Baby talk. 🥰

The bit name you were looking for is a hole borer bit that fits a drill. Get one just ever so slightly larger that the pole diameter. I’m not sure how it would work on painted trim, but on my dark stained varnished wood trim I use brown extension cords with pieces of clear packing tape instead of the command hooks. It’s much cheaper, and any sticky residue can be removed with a citrus based cleaner. I use a lot of extension cords for window candles that I have on timers. In one spot a dark extension cord would have shown under the curtains and against a light wall, so I used a white one. But then the cord showed against the dark trim, so I cut a piece of brown plastic v-shape window/door weatherstrip and stuck it on the sill. The cord runs behind the V just where the white would have been noticeable. Instead of twine I use green floral wire. I buy a full spool and it lasts me about 10-15 years! I use it not only for making my own swags, but also for reinforcing purchased garland for outdoors. I often find when I buy white pine garland that the wrapping is loose and stems would fall out if it isn’t reinforced, plus the wire makes it stronger to hang outdoors so that wind, movement, abrasion doesn’t wear it away the way twine mine be worn away outdoors.

One of my favorite things for Christmas is candles in the windows. I have cafe curtains on just the lower sash in most windows and I place the candles where the two window sashes meet above the curtain. In most places I have the type of candles that manually turn of and on and I plug them into timers that I can control for scheduling. There are some places where I have the light sensor that turns them on and off automatically and some other places where I have the type that turns on and stays on for 8 hours then turns off and automatically comes on at the same time the next day. But I prefer the type that I can completely control with my own timer for the living room and bedrooms. That way the living room lights are still on when I get up in the morning and the bedroom lights are too, with the difference that those go out overnight.

All great ideas! We also created our own tree stand this year when I bought a tree color and distressed it to look like an old vintage basket but the stand wouldn't fit inside it. Hubby rigged up a wood holder for me and it looks fantastic. I also use clear push pins for keeping some of my garlands and items where I want them. Super cheap for a whole package, they blend in and have minimal evidence when I'm done. :)

Thank you Andrea for sharing your tips and tricks for hanging and displaying your Christmas decor. You have decorated everything so simply & beautifully. I like how you've strung your wooden bead garland on your Christmas tree. Those are not easy to swag because of their weight, as you know. Everything is just gorgeous. You really have a gift for balance where it's not too over down. Lastly, you are so beautiful! Yes, I mean it! You and Mike are a cute couple with cute boys! I hope y'all have a very Merry Christmas. Oh, before I forget, you probably already know about the danger of kids swallowing button batteries, if not just google it. So proud of you and your sweet family. Merry Christmas and Big hugs from Texas! 🎄🇨🇱

Hi Andrea ~ glad to hear you use cup hooks also for the Garland. I have some Garland on curtain rods and I attached it with floral tape many places along the rod. It is the same color are the Garland base, so it blends in good. My problem with fairy lights is they get dull after a week of using them. Then you need to replace the batteries. This is my first year of using just them and not plug in lights. You can tell the difference for sure. So I spent money on those and batteries and I am disappointed! Lesson learned. Love you husbands invention for the base of the tree! 👍👍 Thanks for the great tips ! ❤️❤️🌲🌲❤️❤️

Just a note about the fairy lights because I'm obsessed with them, too. You can get electric ones if you want that magical look and can hide a cord. I mix those with regular white lights on my tree. There's just something about them that makes things look special. You can also get electric sets that are strung together like icicle lights, but longer. They look super pretty in windows.
