Very powerful and timely. We lost our home and our VA loan to foreclosure in a bad real estate market many years ago. Since then I've been scared, then amazed and thrilled at how the Lord provided. We've even had the glorious adventure of living in the lake! And all of those were sad, fixer rentals. Each time we moved I asked the owner of we could do any improvements. After showing them some of my before and afters, they were thrilled. Sometimes they even added other amazing upgrades! Once, we lost a rental because the owners loved the kitchen redo so much they wanted to live there, LOL! But we are now living in our church's parsonage and doing it all again. I see making improvements here as giving back to our church that has so graciously housed us. And, I love making things better!

This kind of hit home today, I was just told I should move into a newer house with more modern appeal, my husband bought this house for us almost 40 years ago we were married in this house and we remodeled it years ago. When we redid our kitchen I didn't want to get a loan so we bought things when we could afford them and store them in the garage, I done dishes in the bathroom sink for three years and 1 month, that's how long it took to save up for everything LOL and I was happier than I've ever been! I was grateful and thankful. We have made many updates since then, we have watched our parents die while living in this home we've lost many friends and shared many memories here for that I will always be grateful and very content. Thank you for reminding people to just be happy with what they have.

Way to go, Andrea! I can tell you from experience that my home has become my idol way too many times over the last 3 decades. The Father has taught me and is still teaching me, that I am to put NOTHING before Him. HE is to be Number One on a list of ONE! But the enemy loves to put pretty little things in our minds and make us lose our focus. Satan is a master of disguise and he loves to tempt us with whatever our weakness is. Mine is pretty things for my home, and always has been. There is coming a time that none of this is going to matter to any of us- we may be stepping quickly into that time, and while our nesting instincts are really kicking in with autumn, winter, and uncertain times, we know that we can ONLY count on the One in Whom our Salvation lies. He is our Strength and our Song-praise His Mighty Name!

I like to shop my home. What I do is get a box or two and pack up everything except lamps and things like remotes. Then I leave it for a week or two. Next I try moving my lamps around or spray paint some. Next I'll bring out the boxes and put everything on my table. Then I shop my stash like I'm at Homegoods. I might even spray paint a few things. Often I put things back in the box to save for my next shopping spree. I do this a couple times a year and I always am thrilled afterwards and appreciate what I have.

Thank you so much for sharing this! Our family of 6, along with 2 dogs and a cat, are living in a 5th wheel after we sold our 10-acre hobby farm to look for land on which to build our home closer to our church, the kids’ dance studio, and my husband’s work. We’ve been doing this for 16 months. It’s hard, and I am always dreaming of when I will have a HOME and farm again. I have tried to make this our home as best I can with little room and most of our things in storage. But, sadly, I have forgotten to be grateful for what we do have. Thank you for this reminder. It’s in God’s timing, not mine, and I need to trust that He knows what He’s doing!

I love thrifting and I love the diy ideas, I feel so inspired by your channel. Thank you for your positivity. We are currently renting and plan to purchase the house we are in within the next few months. The house is definitely a fixer upper, but it seems perfect for us and hopefully our children in the future. Yesterday I was feeling overwhelmed by how run down our kitchen is and with a lot of other little unfinished projects that the previous homeowner left behind. Your video reminded me that I don’t need to have it perfect right now. Thank you!

You are wise beyond your years, Andrea! I have found there are a couple of people on here that kind of bother me in that they buy, buy, buy. For one brief moment I thought to myself I would have to win the lottery to be able to afford everything these women buy! You on the other hand are doing things the right way. Taking projects one at a time and being thankful for the little things. I’m a 73 year old widow and as of a year ago I have downsized considerably. I much prefer dents, dings and patina instead of all the brand new that some revere so greatly. I adore you and your family and especially your wonderful videos! Thanks for the video. We have lived here for 25 years and we did a few things when we moved in air conditioning, some flooring painting walls and adding double pained windows. All in the first 12 years but then we were working and had no time or money to finish everything. We just sold our home yesterday and are about to move to Georgia. In the last 2 months we finally were able to finish all the floors, put up the rest of the weinscot and take down ugly wallpaper because we were selling. I cant say I was always content and didn't ask "when can we do this or that", but it is done finally But we are moving out of my finished home and it is now pretty for someone else. We are buying another home which also needs fixing up since we can't live in this state because it is too expensive. I am retired and my husband lost his job because of covid. So we still will be slowly fixing up this next home. I am 70 years old now and really want a nice finished home but it isn't going to happen over night (again) I am trying to look at it that not everyone at 70 can start over to make their home like they want it to be. I guess I see it as a blessing to be able to change things again, even if it will take 5 or 7 years. I just try to stay positive about the change happening in my life. Thanks for the video to help us keep perspective. Tab

So so good, Andrea! Being thankful is so important. Another important one - Clean your house. Declutter, organize, and clean. Vacuum your carpet. And you get a really content feeling when your house is clean. :)

Tried to make our home , homey. Moved from a 2400 sq. Ft. Home into 1400 sq. Ft. Home because of finances . That was yrs. Ago. Now I'm 78 and my husband 79. The time went so fast. As you say not everyone is interested in asthetics, so in order to keep the peace you keep things clean, put the best good on the table you can, bake and pray for your family. Two of our three grown children are in heaven now, in their new home with JESUS. The very best home, and we will join them one day, but for now we still keep our yard cleaned up, plant some colorful plants in the pots in the spring, as we can and through the summer....and try to keep the love and prayers going. We have 5 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren and a wonderful supportive church family, but as nice as that all is, at times I still am discontent. I guess that's because of the gift of painting GOD gave me also and the creative side of me and loving to see change and make things pretty. So yes, thank you for the tips for this old lady, some of which I have been trying to incorporate before, but this just makes me want to try more. Love your cheerful heart and smile and your birthday card from your mom. In HIM

I love home improvements because of the feeling of satisfaction that you get when you are done. It makes your home feel more welcoming and comfortable for all. Even if you can’t do big projects, keeping it clean and organized and changing things up periodically for the season keeps it fresh. The most important thing is to live in the moment. Don’t keep looking ahead at what you still want to do because that will make it “perfect.” You will never be able to enjoy the moment you are in!

This is wonderful to share!! It must be God is speaking to so many of us in this season. Over a year ago my husbands grandfather fell ill and it effected all aspects of his health. He moved in with us, and I made over our dining room into a delightful suit for him. I lost my dining room, and I retired as a massage therapist to take care of him 24//7. So last winter I was pretty much tied down, then the pandemic came and I have always opted just to not go or visit to stay safe and keep him safe. Here we are, the gardens are becoming empty, we have had several heavy frost where I am in Michigan, and it was signaling me, it will be a long, cold winter trapped inside. But then I realized this is just the opposite. Now without so many demanding outdoor projects I may be able to finish the ones inside. Our home is a disaster now, we had several large projects outside over the summer, a bedroom makeover that has taken over two months, and from Grandpa moving in last year some things never found a rightful place/home, leaving the office and guest room cluttered, and now, now I can slow down, take my time, clean and declutter my office, and delight in a comfy cozy workspace. I can delight in the calm and serene, and perhaps enjoy the process. I have things to do, and time to do them and perhaps when spring comes, I will be free to enjoy the outdoor space so well. I am practicing contentment and not buying anything I do not need until these things are finished. Thank you for sharing not only the easy peasy paint and flowers to beautify our home, but the times when we are stuck, when it feels pushed, or overwhelming. Others need to know life is not always instagram perfect !

We have been in our home for 8 years now and use special occasions to do projects. For my birthday, for example, my husband made in stud storage in the kitchen. I keep special items from my grandma and mom in this area. This makes me thankful every day for the years they were in my life. Thank you so much for being a light in this dark world. God bless you.

These are wonderful tips and I especially loved the one on how you and your husband did something every year not all at once to get to where you wanted your home to be. Sometimes bc of TV we think we have to get it all done at once or we aren't doing it right. One tip I have is straighten and clean your home every day. It doesn't have to be a major clean, but a tiddy home brings instant contentment. A house full of coats, shoes, toys, dishes and more all over the place, makes anyone miserable and unhappy. Declutter, throw or give away what you don't use. If you save it for a some day, that some day usually never comes but your house is a mess. Go through your kids toys and say goodbye to what they grown out of and don't play with. There's contentment in a tiddy and clean home. It's not hard, 30 minutes a day will do the trick! Have clean up with kids 30 minutes before dinner, clean your kitchen and dishes. You will feel soooo much better when you wake up and see that clean home and so will your family. God bless you so much for your lovely advice!

I have been in my house for 5 years, i love my home, the kitchen drives me crazy, its such a pretty house, tall ceilings, nice windows with lots of natural light... and then this small kitchen that has no counter space and ugly doors, well, not my style and not enough space to store anything, so we also have being changing things slowly, we have bought the appliances slowly, as we found them on sale, through the years. Now the fun stuff, the island is next, so excited! I could listen to you all day long, you have such a soothing voice. Thank you for your tips and knowledge. Oh, and i almost forgot to mention, Female here! 😉😊😅

You have such a wonderful way about you. .I truly love listening to your ideas. Your home is so beautiful. I actually went the opposite than most people. We retired to a small house on 5 acres, we lived there for 14 years and built a wonderful home, but I was so far away from my children and grandchildren. I was depressed all the time. I found that, although I loved my home, I loved my family much much more. I had to move back, closer to my family. We purchased a much BIGGER home than I wanted, but it was in the perfect location. It has taken a year to get some of the things we needed done, but it is falling into place and starting to feel like home. We have lots of plans, but all I want to do is spend time with my family. I love that they all come over and spend time with us again. Their jobs just wouldn’t let them leave easily, but now, they can just pop in. I missed that so much. I love my home..but being with my family is everything! ❤️❤️

Your last point was 'THE' point to remember. I'm not in my forever home just yet and I've often lamented about the big picture of the house we're in but when I talked to my son about how we're going to move next year, he took me by surprise by saying 'but I love this house and I love living here'. It made me realise that though I may be fixating on this or that that I think looks really off, I've got the feeling in our home right for my son. That is the most important thing in my opinion. Thanks as always for sharing Andrea.

Everything you said is so true. We had 3 of our own homes until we sold the last one to start a business. We rented for a long 17 years to get to be able to have my own home and I trusted God's promise I would get it as I looked after the houses we were in at the time. We have now build my dream home and we are still working one project at a time to get the house and garden finished, but I am so thankful He is so faithful.

This is such good advice! Everyone doesn't have the money to remodel all at once like Hollywood displays. And many who do are in debt and struggle with financial anxiety on top of world problems. Pluss too much work at once will leave other parts of your life lacking. It's about balance and thankfulness. Not to mention haste takes the fun out of the ride. It looks like you have figured this all out.

I am so thankful for all the "things" I have been blessed with. I also am thankful for the ability to create more items that are one of a kind...crocheted items, freshly painted belongings, quilted coverings and hangings, paintings, items sewed to meet the needs of my little home. My problem that I come across is that am overwhelmed with ideas, and often have to make myself slow down and work on one thing at a time.☺Your videos are very helpful, your attitude is very contagious, and I look forward to each new piece that you put together for us. Such beautiful advice. The apostle Paul said he learned to be content. It is a learned behavior. To be grateful, for what you do have, and like you said look for the things you do like about your home. We find what we look for. It is hard to have joy and discontentment at the same time. I would add put on music and praise the Lord, in His presence is real, long lasting joy. Or if you love to read , the book of Psalms always changes my perspective.

Such a lovely video...gratitude is truly life changing, though sometimes extremely hard to muster...one small tip I have is to CLEAN....especially if you are just moving in to a rental home or apt. that isn't up to par...I found that doing a deep cleaning of EVERYTHING and then some personal touches or even plants, fresh paint if allowed will make all the difference in brightening your space...we lived in a lot of rentals for years and we always left it in better condition when we left.

I just moved into a fixer upper and fell into that rabbit hole of feeling like I have to do everything right now. So much so that I have forgotten the real meaning of home! God has certainly blessed us who follow you with this loving, gracious, humble soul who gives us these reminders or some times simply brings to light the things we can not see. Thank you Heavenly Father for Andrea 🙏 Your last thing for being content in our homes/house is so strong for me! My husband and I are living in the home I was born and raised in. When my parents became sick with terminal cancer I moved in to be their care taker. Still working full time at my job ( 50 hour weeks...until they got really bad then family leave ) but I was here in the evenings, through the nights and early mornings. Called them throughout my day, etc. Now that I am retired due to health....I’m sitting in this house ( we have been in it for 17 years already.... wow) but I try to find that contentment...I am trying to renovate ( which many things needed done due to them not being able to keep up when sick...totally understandable...it was hard for my Father...he was a contractor his whole life and was at the point of no longer holding his own weight up...😢). But I am trying to make this home the vision I always had for it..... it is it not making me content ! Why? It was my parents, my siblings.... being with my family that was “contentment”.... not the house! It was always so wonderful to COME HOME... bring my babies here to see grandparents a couple of times a week, etc... It was what was inside this big house.... like you said... Mom being home...waiting for Dad to come home.... siblings talking about day! I feel like I am drowning in this house now! My husband adores this house...☹️. I need to silence the world around me... talk with God and give praise and thanksgiving for what I have been given my whole life...His grace, His mercy, His guidance, His love ..... seek my true treasure and be more humble and loving..... God bless you Andrea...I needed this video this very week! God’s providence is unmatchable...... Thank You!!! Pray hearts are being comforted with the loss of your Grandfather. I think about you and your family. 🙏🙏❤️🙏🙏
